Winter Rants

This week's Friday 5 is about Winter Running rants. I have no rants about running as mine's been going just fine. However, I'll share about some things I've been irritated with this winter.

1. Although the weather is back up to where it should be, we did have a few colder days this month that put me on the hunt for some winter sweaters. I could not find any. Instead I found lightweight spring sweaters (I mean real thin) and those cold shoulder tops. I know retailers are always thinking a season ahead, but why can't we still have cozy winter tops in February?

To add on to this, I can barely find anymore fleece lined leggings. No matter what the weather, I love me some fleece leggings.

My favorite shirt. I got it for Christmas a few years ago.

2. Another winter rant is about a commercial. Over the summer my husband showed me the trailer to "A Dog's Purpose".  Tears flowed and I told him I would NOT be going to see that movie.  Well, this winter I now have been seeing the commercial on TV. I have to fast forward it each time it comes on because I can't allow myself to watch it. If I'm at "Live TV", then I just have to pause it for a few seconds until I can fast forward through it. I've heard people say that it was a happy movie, but if there's dogs and there is death, there is no way I'm watching that.

3. Speaking of commercials,  my favorite radio station does a commercial for "Blue apron" almost every day. The Blue Apron meals were mostly good, but the announcers mentions how quick and easy the recipes are to make. I chuckle to myself each time and say "yea right"  when I hear this commercial because Blue Apron was NOT a quick way to make a meal! If you don't remember my Blue Apron post, you can read it HERE.

4. I've been on Pinterest lately  and it seems like every time I get on I see a pin about "If your dog does these 10 things, he might have cancer". NO, NO, and NO. I will NOT be tempted to open that pin and read that article.  I know me and if I even remotely think that my dog does any of those things I'll be flipping out. Is there a way to block certain pins? I don't want to see it any more.

5. My last rant of course is about shoes. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect pair. I ordered 3 pair from Amazon last week and two will be going back. The third pair doesn't fit perfectly and I may not have bought them had I tried them on at the store but I doubt they will hurt my feet so I'm not going through the hassle to return those too. I tried to find shoes at the store but I just can't find a style that I like. What is up with open toe boots? They make no sense yet I see them every where!!!!

  1. I get annoyed at the Blue Apron commercials because they always talk about meat sourced from ethical and sustainable practices.. I don't know a single rancher that doesn't use sustainable and ethical practices..if you don't take care of the land and the cows you don't have a living. If you take care of the land, it takes care of you. I won't order from them because they play into the fearmongering culture. Annoying.
I KNOW if I see A Dog's Purpose I will be a MESS. I hope my kids don't want to see it.

    1. Maybe you can wait till the movie comes out to Red Box and then you can leave the room while it plays!

  2. Do you remember the movie Homeward Bound? Ever since seeing that, I refuse to watch "heartwarming animal movies." I cry SO hard even when the ending is happy. I cannot deal. A Dog's Purpose is supposed to be really lovely but I don't feel like putting myself through that emotional torture!

    1. They made us read that book in 7th grade. I don't remember if I ever saw the movie in its entirety or not.

  3. You know what frosts my ass? Homeowners who won't shovel their sidewalk. Or who park their cars over the sidewalk (not necessarily winter only). People who snowblow their driveways into the street.

  4. I tried to give my rants a happy twist...but, oh...there are a lot of things that really annoy me, too. I didn't have my phone with me (or I would have taken a pic and posted it)....it's been a muddy mess here lately, due to the crazy warm "thaw" going on, but some idiot parked their car (in their LONG driveway) directly over the sidewalk portion of it (?????). Needless to say, I had to veer around said car (into the muddy grass) to get around it. WTH? And, the toeless boots? What's up with those? Most people wearing boots want their toes to stay warm, too.LOL

  5. Hysterical ranting. I am OVER winter. I did find some *on sale* fleece-lined running tights at my local Athleta (originally $89!) so you might want to swing by if you have one your 'hood!

    1. I wasn't really looking for athletic tights as I have 2 fleece pair already. I was looking for just regular tights to wear with skirts.

  6. No winter rants here as we really have not had much of a winter this year! I agree that blue apron was ok but not quick at all! Thanks for the linkup

    1. Winter has been mild here too so as you can see most of my rants are not weather related!

  7. I don't get the whole open toe boots thing either & I don't own any -- which is a mouthful, considering my "room", the spare bedroom which is my second closet -- yes, basically the whole room -- is chock full of boots.

There is plenty to rant about winter-wise here, despite it being mostly mild -- mild here just means that we're not totally buried in snow. Last week was kind of brutal, but things are looking up.

  8. Omg yes to the blue apron meals being quick and easy. The Hello Fresh one's definitely are, but Blue Apron? Not so much. Open toe boots are just silly. Like flip flops with a massive winter jacket

    1. My sister tried Hello Fresh! I think I should try that one too.

  9. I won't see any movie like a Dog's Purpose. Nope, no way, can't make me. Marley and Me, forget it. I'm a blubbering mess thinking about it.

  10. Open toe boots make absolutely no sense to me. Why would I want to keep my feet warm, but not my toes?!?

  11. You & me... we're sisters. I'm telling you. I can NOT & refuse to watch anything about A Dog's Purpose. My youth girls tried to get me to go with them to see it & I'm like NOOOO - the dog dies over & over ... & they're all like, but he comes back... & I'm like, YEAH - but the owners dont know that - they are left alone. NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE... NEVER!!!! I still to this day refuse to see Marley & Me. Neverrrrrrrr!!!!!!

My mom asked me that about Blue Apron - isnt that the point, to make life easier? I was like, that's their line - but they LIE!

    1. Yea, you know how I feel about dog movies! I thought you liked Blue Apron?

  12. I tried Blue Apron about 2 years ago and I loved it! I only cook for myself, so it was a little expensive, but I would definitely sign up for it if I have a family. The meals were always so yummy!

    1. I guess if you enjoy the time preparing it, it's not bad. The food was good.

  13. Those open toe booties seem to be all the rage. I don't get it. So impractical. Are those the 3 pairs you got? They're cute!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, those are the three pairs I ordered. The only ones I decided to keep were the blue ones and now after wearing them yesterday I'm not quite sure.

  14. My toes are ugly so you will never see me wearing open toe booties! I feel like they look nice on some people but they are not my style. Remember when we were kids and ladies wore open toe heels? I guess those Rent back or are they? Did you try DSW for shoes? They have a huge selection.

I cannot watch movies or commercials with sad animals. I hate seeing fb posts about animal abuse. I know it exists but I don't want to hear about it.

    1. All I see anymore are open toe dress shoes. I don't mind them and will wear them in the fall but once winter starts I feel they are inappropriate. I will check out that site later today. Thanks for the suggestion.

  15. Seeing Marley and Me cured me from every seeing dog movies again - my (at the time) teenager and I walked out of the theater without looking at each other, got in the car, and we both burst into more tears!

    1. My family did the same thing. We saw it on Christmas one year. big mistake.

  16. I don't do sad animal movies at all...not dogs, not wild animals, not horses. I'm such a wreck! Here in the South we like our open toe boots. So cute for Spring :)

  17. Do you ever shop on Zappos.com? I love their shoes (for the most part). Plus free shipping and returns. Can't beat it!

  18. Blue Apron makes you do all of the prep which is the reason I don't cook much in the first place! That's the hard part! Agree on the seasons and open toe boots, too! Who has nice toenails in winter?!

  19. Target has had swimsuits out since January! It's only good thing if the winter stuff you want then gets moved to clearance.

    1. Thtats great for people who are going on vacation in February! But he rest of us still want long sleeve shirts!....haha

  20. I think one problem with retail is that they don't stock what we want to buy- whether it's clothes for the season we're in now or styles we like. It's so frustrating. I can't stand movies that are written just to make you cry!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh I've been saying that for several seasons now. The styles lately are just blah!

  21. I would also like to be able to get some more winter sweaters but they are nowhere to be found! Its so weird how stores plan ahead so much.

    1. I guess Christmas time is the last chance to buy a winter sweater. After that they start selling swim suits and sun dresses!

  22. I mentioned in my original post that it seemed more like a luxury than something quick and easy, so yea, maybe it would make a good date night meal.
