Weekly Wrap ...May 29


After the marathon, I made my way back into running by continuously running 4 miles. I know it's not much, but I was proud of that. That was back when I was preparing for the April Fools race (what little preparing I did).  Then I stopped running because of that pesky foot pain.

  Well, after several weeks, I am glad to say that I think that pain has subsided. I am much more choosy about my foot wear and hope to never have that problem again.    

With that being said, I started officially logging miles again this past week!  YAY!  Of course wouldn't you know that the week I start running again it is 89 degrees!  That's okay, I just loved being out there.

I started slow with a few run/walks for the first few days. I then had my massage therapist work on me to make sure everything was in working order. Of course she found a few knots and tight spots but worked all that out. That evening I started doing all running, no walking. I know the weather keeps getting warmer and warmer but I now feel like I am in good shape and am very excited for summer running!

This weekend I even tried out two new routes, one being a track by the hospital, and one being a wooded path along the water at my grandfather's house. The track will be great for some quick runs and the path will be great when I need some shade!

  2. I'm glad your foot is better. YAY for logging miles. I've recently figured out my Alegria Sandals are excellent for my feet. They support my high arches perfectly. So, I've been wearing the same two pair to work over and over. I think it's time for pair #3! Good luck as you increase your mileage in the heat. But your right, after a break it feels good no matter what the temp! Thanks for linking with us Meranda.

  3. Ooh girl I am glad you are back at it! You are like me in that if something is wrong, I try to nip it in the bud right away! It sucks taking time off but it pays in the end. YEAH IT IS HOT!! I got some sun on my weekend runs. I forgot to wear my visor. :(

  5. Nice that you are able to run again. Foot pain is no joke and wearing better shoes definitely helps. Summer running is tough, but just enjoying being out there is key. Our weather is so humid at the moment, but I keep telling myself that summer training leads to good fall races.

    1. I have learned years ago that quality shoes is key but I had a pair of dress shoes that were too tight and I'm pretty sure that is what caused the Flare up. I won't make that mistake again!

  6. I hear ya on the foot pain! Glad it's gone. Mine is down to a dull roar, altho I really angered it yesterday at my 10k. Oh well!

  7. I have to be so careful about my footwear since the PF. No more flip flops for me and can only wear heels infrequently. Gotta do what you gotta do right?!

    1. I only wear my Nike flip flops with the padded footbed or ones with a padded arch. I stay away from those cheapie ones from say "Old Navy".

  8. It's so good to hear you can start running again. I'm also very careful with the shoes I wear, not just for my feet, but for my knees too.

  10. I have been avoiding my pretty, sparkly sandals the past couple weeks since my heel issue. I can still wear my cheetah print flats (with the padded inserts stuffed inside), so it's not all bad. I'm wearing my Alegria's (have you tried them?) a lot, and I also have a pair of Oofos, which are also incredible! Oh, and there's that ugly PF sleeve I'm wearing overnight ;-)

  13. I'm glad your foot pain has subsided and you're back to running. It's great to find new running routes especially some with shade in this brutal heat.

  14. Yay for no foot pain! After not being able to run like you want, some runs in any condition are wonderful!
    I tend to stick with a route at a local campground in the summer months because it is shady if I have to run in the afternoons. My other option by my house is the dam and man it is a scorcher!
