Princess Half Marathon : Lacey's version

I just completed the Shamrock Marathon yesterday but before I recap that race, I thought I would finish my brief recap from the Princess Half Marathon a few weeks  back.

After having fun stopping for pictures with my sister during the 10k the day before, I was ready to push myself to see how well I could do in the half. I would be running this race by myself.

And a few thousand other princess!

This year would be slightly different from the past because not only would I be running, my sister and mom would be running their first half together in a few Corrals back. I was so excited for them!

When I run by myself, I rarely ever run with my phone, just my ipod. Since my sister and I stopped for pictures during the 5k and the 10k  the previous days I felt there was no reason to bring my phone. Besides, when I started it was still dark so  I figured I probably wouldn't be getting too many good photos anyway.  Also I didn't want to run with one more thing. However, I was keeping a pretty good pace and could've stopped at every character photo without any lines. I thought to myself "well heck maybe I should've brought my phone". Oh well, there's always next year.

Even with keeping a good pace throughout the whole race, I didn't PR which is fine, you're not always going to, and especially at a Disney race where fun is more important.  And that I did have, especially seeing my mom and sister crossing the finish line for their first half! I am so proud of the both of them!

After the race we enjoyed a well deserved massage! I don't know if it was the massage or not pushing myself to my full potential but after the race and the days to follow I was not as sore as I normally am after running a race. I would highly recommend a massage after you're done racing!  It does make a difference. And besides, you would have earned it, treat yourself.

In an effort to keep our legs from cramping up or getting sore later, we decided to keep moving. We celebrated our accomplishment by spending the day at the Magic Kingdom.  I can't believe how much energy we still had left!

Do you get massages after a longer race?
Did you race this weekend? If so, how did it go?

Don't forget tomorrow is another Tasty Tuesday Link up with Lean Lena.

  1. Way to go, Lacey! And you're right, its unrealistic to PR at every race. Some races, especially Disney races, you have to just run for fun!

Just like you, we walked around the parks after all of our races during Marathon Weekend, and I definitely attribute my lack of being as sore as I thought I would be to the fact that we kept moving.

    1. I agree. I think continuing to move is a good thing. But we were very tired by the end of the night!

  4. Yes, fun is more important at Disney, including time in the parks after the race. The parks are there to give runners a chance to walk out the soreness.

  5. I got ART once after a race to fix my hammys, but other than that, no! But maybe I will for my next race. We DO deserve it!

  6. I always hear about the massages... I'm usually just ready to get out of the sweaty clothes. I need to make this a habit to do in my bigger races!

  11. Great job, it was a fun race! I got my first post-race massage after PHM this year too and I do think it made a big difference. I didn't really feel sore at all after the race. Well worth the $20!
