Coffee Talk- January

Happy 2025, a few weeks late!
We usually write a year end recap on the blog, but we didn't get a chance to do that at the end of December. Grab yourself a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and lets chat now.

I have to say, 2024 was really good to us! I am always super worried about my family and we got through 2024 unscathed!  Family is everything and at the end of the day ( or year), if you still have everyone, then it was a great year!

So now I document what went down this year!

Travel-  Of course we had our Disney trips, and we even got in a visit to the beach. Scott and I took a drive up north and we saw some Elk,  which was pretty exciting to me! I went to a local amusement park with my Pappy, and a dinner theater with my mom and sister.

Church life: Our annual "Trunk or Treat" is always one of  our favorite things to do each year, and we love that Sybie can participate.

Our Theme this year was "Frozen" and Sybie was Sven. She did awesome!  We also volunteered in packing food and filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse.  Our church also hosted Rend Collective and Micah Tyler in concert and we got to enjoy both of them.

Running- I did not do any races this year, not even any Disney fun runs. Lacey did a few local 5ks. Seems like ever since 2020, our race-cations have been put on hiatus.

Books- I read a lot of books throughout the year. I'm a fan of Elin Hilderbrand, so I started the year off with "Winter in Paradise". I didn't realize it was a series, so of course I was hooked and had to read "What happens in Paradise", and "Trouble in Paradise".

Since it was still winter, I started Hilderbrand's Winter series, "Winter Street", "Winter Stroll",  "Winter Storms" , and "Winter Solstice".

I also went back to my favorite author, Danielle Steel, and read "The Affair".

In the Spring, I read "All Fall Down" by Jennifer Weiner, "Barefoot" by Elin Hilderbrand, and "The Five Star Weekend" Also by Elin Hilderbrand.  I can honestly tell you I don't remember what "Barefoot" was about but I do remember "All Fall Down" and that was good. Also, I LOVED "Five Star Weekend" and I hoped it would become a movie. I now found out it will be, in 2026!

Over the Summer, I got hooked on "The Summer I Turned Pretty" series. I read all 3 books and watched the series on Netflix! I'm looking forward to the next season.

Going into the fall, I read Hilderbrand's last book, "Swan Song".  I was also super excited to see her book "The Perfect Couple" become a Netflix series.  As usual, the book was much better!

I also started a few podcasts during the year. I love "Popcorn Bucket Gossip" and "Disneyville podcast".  And since it was election season, I dabbled in some political podcasts!

We had a really nice New Years Eve  and New Years day.

We had a nice dinner and played games with family. Then on January 2nd, we celebrated my Pappy's 92 birthday!  The year was staring off great! But then the tides had turned so to speak.

The first Sunday of the new year I had to take my Labrador Sybie to the emergency room for a swollen eye that popped up out of nowhere.

She already has allergies and even started on new meds for some internal issues, so I was worried about what the cause of the swollen eye could be. I didn't get any answers from the doctor but the swelling did go down and we were sent home with more meds.  But it didn't stop there. I had to take her to a different emergency room a few days later because she had an uncharacteristic reaction to the meds.  She started doing better and a few weeks later we took her to her primary vet for her annual check up and for her vaccines. Yes, she  had another uncharacteristic reaction to what we think was either the vaccine or her new meds. We are trying some new things and so far, she has been doing well theblast few days. We will keep praying!

So that's a wrap on 2024 and a peek into how 2025 has been going!  Tell me about your year.

Till next time ~ M
