Coffee Talk : April

Welcome to the April edition of Coffee Talk. In these posts, we talk about what we've been up to the past month and it gives us a chance to catch up with our other blogger friends.

If we were having coffee, I'd share with you that in March we celebrated 10 years with our blog Fairytales and Fitness. We love sharing our adventures on here and connecting with other bloggers so we've never considered giving it up. However, the thought has crossed my mind to rename it. Since 2020 we have not been running as many races and we don't share posts on our random training runs anymore. We still enjoy running and racing when we can, but do we deserve to keep the "Fitness" in our name?  Changing a blog name is a huge commitment and I know it would be a lot of work to direct links and all that and I don't know if I'm ready to do that with my limited tech background...lol

I also mentioned a few months back that we are planning another dimension to our blog. I was hoping to introduce this new piece by our 10th year anniversary but it too is going to take a lot of time so it may be a summer project.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I visited the Disney 100 Exhibition at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.  The exhibit was okay, but a little underwhelming.  I think there was an opportunity for them to do so much more. Regardless, it was a nice tribute to Walt and the Disney company and all they have accomplished over the past century. You can read my blog post about the exhibit HERE.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that March was a pretty busy month. The evening before we visited the Disney 100 Exhibit, my family and I went to a Matthew West concert. It was really nice being able to sing and worship with so many of my family members and some of our good friends too.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that our school had a small fire so we had off for a few days. Thankfully it happened before school started so nobody was hurt. I'm sure the dogs enjoyed me being home with them.  However, I was away on a work retreat a few days later. I'd never been to a work retreat before and never overnight. It was nice meeting other teachers from different districts.

If we were having coffee I'd tell you I've been having some good conversations with my grandparents. My Nana seems to be having better days. The other day we just talked and laughed. We talked about our first cars and she told me a story about when she took her driver's test.
Also, one of the days I didn't have school ( because of the fire), I had a real coffee date with my Pap. He told me some stories about his time in the service. My Pap is so enthusiastic when he tells stories!

What we are watching

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that we started watching Manifest!  I know this is an older show but we were just flipping through one day and decided we would watch it. We started it on a Sunday evening and we were hooked! We watched a few episodes each night and then binged the rest on the weekend and we were through all 4 seasons by the following Sunday! If you haven't seen Manifest or you forget what it is about, It's about a family that was flying back from Jamaica. Because the flight was over sold, some family members took the original flight and some volunteered to take a later flight.  Well, the later flight never made it back to the airport and it was said the plane went missing. The passengers were declared deceased. Five years later, the plane landed and the passengers got off of it not knowing that 5 years had passed.  It's really good! The next season premieres on June 2!

What I'm reading

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you I love Elin Hilderbrand, so my book for March was The Identicals. It's about twin sisters, who each decided to live with one parent after their divorce. One lived on Nantucket and one lived on Martha's Vineyard (some what identical islands).  It's not one of my favorites and if I had to recommend on of Hilderbrand's book, it would not be this one...lol.  However, I would recommend Summer of 69, or Golden Girl, or 28 Summers ( that one is my favorite).

What I'm looking forward to

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I'm looking forward to Easter and the much needed break that it is going to provide!  I'm looking forward to the bone hunt with the doggies and sharing a meal with family. I'm looking forward to finding a dessert to make. I recreated the Butter Cake that we had one night on the Disney Wish cruise ship, so I'm thinking I might make that recipe again.

Please tell us, what do you think of us continuing to use the name Fairytales and Fitness for our blog title?  Can you come up with something more appropriate based on the content we share?

We look forward to hearing what you've been up to this month - M and L

  1. It's always nice to catch up! It's so hard to change an iconic blog name--if you do, will people know to look for it? So I can't help you with that decision, lol.

It sounds like you had a good month and I'm glad your grandparents are doing so well! I see your and Lacey's post on IG and it looks like you are having a lot of fun with your Disney adventures!

  2. I'm glad that you're getting to spend quality time with your grandparents. All of mine were gone when I was in my early 20s (some for years by that point) so enjoy those stories! I like to video my mom telling stories. Usually she's like why, but once she starts, you can't shut her up, LOL!

I am actually going to see my mom (and some nieces & nephews) tomorrow. Mr. Judy has something to do & can't come. Which means leaving Bandit at home alone for quite a few hours, something he's definitely no longer used to. We have a dog door so I know he'll be okay, but he definitely won't be happy about that. I'm sure your dogs were so happy to have you at home for extra snuggles!

  3. Hmm, that's a tough decision about the blog name! I would say if you find yourself struggling with content- such as, if you're trying to write a post and you keep thinking "But what does this have to do with fitness? I have to add something about fitness!" then maybe the title isn't serving you anymore. But if you feel like the theme of fitness is still sprinkled in there, it's probably fine to keep it. I'll be interested to see what you decide.
That is amazing you still have your grandparents!!! Mine have been gone for quite a while now. I wish I had heard more stories of their lives when I had a chance.

  4. I do love your blog name, but sometimes a rebrand is good. I hope you have a wonderful Easter, and that the dogs love their hunt! that sounds fun! I'm glad you had a nice time with your grandparents!

  5. I am sure the fire must have been terrifying! Glad to hear that no one was hurt. Love that you can chat with your grandparents and hear stories from them. I listen a lot to my mom's stories.
