End of the year Hodgepodge

It seems like just a few month's ago when everyone was feeling 22, as we rang in the new year and now here we are saying good bye to it already!

I think there really is something about the years going faster as you get older. Or maybe it's just that we appreciate each day a little bit more and don't want them to end.  We use to do an end of the year recap and we have not done a proper one in a few years, so here is a little hodgepodge of thoughts for the end of the year.

December Recap

Well, once again I was not able to keep up with my monthly recaps. For the most part, December was enjoyable.

My sister and I enjoyed our annual community tree lighting, complete with real reindeer this year, followed by late night shopping with lots of tasty treats. I was so pleased with how well Sybie and the reindeer interacted with each other.

We also enjoyed Christmas time at Disney. We did not blog about our trip but we did do a post about the Festival of the Holidays at Epcot. You can check that out HERE

One thing I always look forward to is going with my family to see the Christmas light show at a local church.

We sit in our car and watch the lights dance to the music. It lasts a good 15 minutes or so. The dogs usually enjoy it too!

Runfession

Prior to 2020 we would always do an end of the year scrapbook of all the races we've done. Actually, I did think our last race scrapbook was done in 2019 but as I just checked back on the blog I must Runfess that the last race scrapbook was made in 2018! Wow, we were slacking.  We did run several races in 2019 so I don't know why we didn't do our annual scrapbook ( perhaps it was because by the end of the year I was preoccupied with our new addition). 2020 only saw 2 races in January and February so that is why there was no scrapbook for that year, and well 2021 the only race I was scheduled for ( a Disney Race), I had to DNS!  You can see all of our previous race scrapbooks HERE.  Enter 2022 and I Runfess not one race was ran by me. Lacey ran a handful of 5K's in the fall, but again  I Runfess no scrapbook was made.  It's a good thing we have this blog to document our races!

We did a lot of traveling in 2022 so I thought perhaps I would put together a travel scrapbook instead.  I'll work on that in the coming days!

Goal

Another thing we have been slacking on is blogging! Which is a shame because I do enjoy it. Can you believe that in 2014 we published the highest amount of blog posts at 294 for the year!  In 2021 we only had 35 posts for the year. This year up until this post we only had 40 posts published.  Now I will admit we will probably never reach 294 again because that is when we were blogging every day during the week. We've now changed to only blogging once a week ( usually on the weekends)!  But I do feel that we still have lots of content to share so our goal is to get back to blogging consistently.  A goal for us is going to be 50 -100 posts for 2023. That sounds reasonable.  I would also like to add another dimension to this blog but we won't get into those details in this post.

Currently

Our family is currently mourning the loss of our oldest golden retriever Eppie.

We called Eppie our "big girl".  We got to spend Christmas with her and then things happened suddenly.  She surely will be missed.  I'm hoping my family can catch a break for say another 15 years before we have to lose another dog.  If you have been following along for a while you will remember our history the past few years.

2019- We loss Baylee Girl (13)

2020 - We loss Bella Baby (12)

2021- We loss Puppy Libby (1)

2022- We loss Big girl Eppie (10)

Our new girls Sybie and Willow are only three years old and Shelly is only one. So hopefully we have many more happy years together!

We have some exciting stuff planned for the first quarter of 2023 already so we will have those to look forward to and keep us busy as we go into the new year!  Thank you to all of you who continue to read our blog, we truly do appreciate your support!

Have a safe and happy New Year!   -Meranda and Lacey

We will be linking up with some of our favorite bloggers, including Marcia from Marcia's Healthy Slice.

  1. I love how you and your sister enjoy so much time together! I too enjoy blogging but have really reduced posting as well because not so many people read blogs anymore. I do the Weekly Rundown to keep in touch with the other run bloggers, Runfessions, Coffee Talk, and my monthly book reviews. I'm not racing as much anymore but I'll post a recap when I do.

I'm so sorry about the loss of Eppie. You have such wonderful dogs. I'm sure you will miss her.

    1. Yes, it does seem like blogging is going to the wayside but I love documenting things just for us if nothing else! Thank you for the condolences.

  2. I only ran 2 races this year too, and barely wrote up recaps. Sometimes there’s not much to say. ;-)
Sorry to hear about Eppie. Hopefully it will be many years before you have to mourn another dog.

Looking forward to hearing about your new adventures!

    1. Yes, after running so many races, all the recaps tend to sound the same after a while...lol. We still like to document them somewhere though! Thank you for the condolences.

  3. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Lacey! I do agree time seems to pass faster and faster and here we are on the threshold of 2023! I'm so sorry about Eppie and the long string of losses you've sustained. It's so very hard to say goodbye to our beloved pets. Hugs to you!

  5. Hmm, I'm interested to see what the "other dimension" to your blog is going to be! I think a goal of 50-100 posts is a good one.
Sorry about Eppie... I know that's tough. But I'm glad you had a good Christmas and hope you have a very happy New Year!

  6. So sorry to hear of Eppie ;-( These little fur kids sure take up a lot of real estate in our hearts, don't they? I hope 2023 brings you much happiness <3

  8. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy, no matter what the age. Bandit is now 14 -- which was the last year of Lola's life. I admit that makes me a little bit nervous. But his annual was quite good.

I've cut back on blogging so I could focus more on my Yoga exploits. It's a slow and steady climb -- I started a Yoga blog in 2021 but it languished this year. I'm going to shoot for maybe one post a month. I have many ideas, not enough time!

Happy New Year, Meranda & Lacey & fam
