Running of the Elves 5k (with some reindeer)

Last weekend my Mom and I ran the Running of the Elves 5k. It was a local Christmas race close to our hometown.  We ran this a few years ago and enjoyed it so decided to run it again. We lucked out and had a very nice day for it.

Shortly after starting the race,
(I was about a half mile up the road) and I hear this "Go Lacey Go"! It was my Dad who secretly came to cheer us on. At this time it was too early to know where I was in the race of runners but I thought there was at least one lady ahead of me.

I don't believe anyone else passed me except for a few high school track boys. The race itself was pretty uneventful with having it be a Christmas race. However, there were plenty of volunteers that were directing the runners where to turn since the course was open to traffic.

I was about 2 miles into it and we were approaching a huge hill. I felt like this was going to slow me down a bit but it didn't. Again, no one passed me and I was moving pretty good on the downhill side.

I was finally approaching the last stretch of the course, luckily it was flat. You know when you can see the finish line and it always looks much closer than what it really is? Well I tried to give it all I could, but by this time no one was around me. I knew no one was going to pass me now and there were not any runners in front of me to catch up to.

I see my Dad again right before the finish line and he says, "here comes my daughter who is going to take first in the women's" I thought really?

I also saw my dogs that my sister dressed up as reindeer to come cheer us on near the finish line.

After I finished I went inside the school to grab our coats and my phone so I could get a picture of my mom crossing the finish line. I saw her running her last stretch of the race and my sister gave her one of our dogs to run with across the finish line( it was so cute).

We all got a photo with Santa at the finish line.

We waited for the awards and I received first overall female which was pretty exciting! Instead of a medal I received a Christmas travel mug with a Dunkin Donuts giftcard. I was very pleased with a practical gift.   -L

Did you run a holiday race yet this month?

  8. Wow! Congrats on the first place female. That is awesome! I would much rather have a Dunkin gift card than a medal or plaque. That is so cool. You are also very lucky to be able to run with your mom.
