I am a Lab Mommy Again!

Hi Everyone!

If you've seen my IG posts over the last few days, you would notice that I have a new four legged family member!

It has been 6 months
since I had to say good bye to my Sweet Baylee and I do miss her terribly.  We had planned to wait until 2020 to add a new addition (It seemed like the appropriate amount of time to wait and a good way to start a fresh new year). We were hoping to find one that would be born around January/February and would be ready to take home early spring. That was the plan.  But in order to stick to the plan, that would mean that we would need to be on a waiting list by Fall.  ( I knew I wanted another lab eventually but even by early fall, I wasn't comfortable with the thought of  getting a new girl yet).

With a little bit (okay a lot)  of nudging from my husband, I was ready to start researching breeders by mid November. If you know me, you know that picking a Labrador is not something I take lightly. I've researched breeders, bloodlines/genetics, temperaments, etc.  Our Baylee had some genetic problems and I wanted to make sure our new girl did not have to go down that same road.

Turns out, if I wanted a Yellow Labrador by Spring, I should have already been on a waiting list. The breeders we were researching have had unborn puppies already reserved, or the litter was due to only produce chocolates.

That's when we decided to expand our search. We came across a breeder in Iowa, and as soon as we read their story and saw their dogs, we were in love. They are highly rated, highly reputable, and produce service dog prospects. As luck would have it, they had a litter that was only one week old and had two yellow females left!  We put down our deposit  and in the next 6 weeks, Yellow Female #4 Would be ours!  We later found out that our #4 would be Miss Pink.  The breeder did a great job taking photos of the litter and giving updates each week as they grew!  My favorite is the last update where she is in the suitcase and ready to go to her forever home!

The pups were ready to be brought home the weekend before Christmas. So Friday after school, Scott and I made the treck from the East Coast to Iowa.

We arrived at the breeders Saturday afternoon, and our girl "Miss Pink" was the first of her litter to be picked up.  This sort of made me sad and I was hoping some of her litter mates would have left before her. I didn't want her to be the first one to be pulled away from her little family.

She did amazingly well on the long trip back home!  ( We had a travel crate in the car with us too. She did not ride on my lap the entire way) We were so proud of her. I am so thankful for the beautiful weather we had on the way out and on the way back. I am also so thankful that we were able to have her for Christmas.

Meet our Sweet Sybil! I couldn't have asked for a better Christmas gift!

I can't wait to share more about this sweet little lab! I hope you all had a very merry Christmas! -M
