Weekly Wrap... August 5

As I was writing the title for this Weekly Wrap, I accidentally typed "July", and quickly pressed the backspace button!  Wow, it really is August already!  I've been seeing people on IG posting about the first days of school already. I thankfully have a few more weeks of summer left!

As far as summer activities go, this is what we were up to this week.

I got two runs in (one was uneventful and one wasn't), and a very exciting hike.  I went to the driving range in Sunday and I now have my own set of golf clubs so I hope to go more often.

I mentioned on IG on Wednesday that I ran 5  Hot and HUMID miles on the rail trail. Near the end of my run I wiped some sweat out of my eyes and my contact lens fell out.  It fell right on the  dusty trail.  Luckily I found it, cupped it in my hand and "hydrated" it!  Thank GOODNESS my eye doctor is located right along the trail so I could go and disinfect it. The bad part is that I had to walk nearly 2 miles only being able to see out of one eye and holding my contact in my hand while trying not to drop it.

Also this week Lacey continued to train for her next event. She's crossed over to the dark side and she too now decided to do a triathlon.

She is much better at the swimming than I am.  Her race is next weekend.

I wanted to do a long run on Saturday but opted for a hike and some beach time with my sister instead.

Oh our hike was very eventful and I'm not gonna lie and tell you I wasn't frightened at some points. I think I'll try to tell that story later this week.

Thank you to Wendy and Holly for letting us share our week with them!

  1. Yikes! Can't believe you actually FOUND your lens! Can't wait to hear more about the "eventful" hike. I'm kind of worried.

  2. That pool looks so refreshing! You both are going to do great! Most schools around here don't star until after Labor Day, but some do start in late August. It's still vacation time right now.

  3. That is so crazy about your contact! How lucky that your eye dr was nearby. I would have had to figure out how to finish running and get home while only being able to see out of one eye!

  4. Omg I can't wait to hear about your hike! Also, let me know where the Boiling Springs trail is because I know you know there is a town called Boiling Springs near me where the AT goes through, but I know you guys weren't there.

  5. I too cannot believe that it is already August. This summer has just flown by way way way too fast! Do we have to go back to school??? ;)

  6. Once you get the tri bug it can be awfully addictive!

  7. My contacts have been popping out of my eyes lately too. It's so annoying. Mine are dalies and my sight isn't THAT bad so it's not that big of deal but still so annoying.
    Glad you found yours!

  8. I'm glad you found your contact! I have gas permeable ones and they are super expensive, so if I lose one, I'm screwed!

  9. Like you, I can't believe that it's already August. This was the fastest summer ever.

Wow, I'm actually shocked that you were able to find your lens on the dusty trail, that's amazing!

  10. I guess you are wearing hard/non-disposable contacts? I definitely would have left mine if it fell in the dirt!

  11. I'm glad you found your contact...I always seem to lose mine which is why I gave up on wearing them, but I do want to try again!

Triathlon training? Awesome! Kudos to you ladies :)

The hike sounds great, looking forward to hearing more about it!

  13. I've had some pretty sweaty runs too. I had sweat dripping down on Saturday towards my eye, and I was trying all sorts of head positions to try to keep out of my eye. That'll teach me to skip wearing a sweat band.

  14. I feel the same! Where did the summer go. Our teachers go back this week and kiddos next week. I'm shocked that you found your contact! So crazy.

  15. You've got me intrigued about your eventful hike! When I'm desperate, I'll take out my contact and wash with regular water (fountain, bottled, tap) to remove the debris. It's better than suffering. School started in our city today and I was completely unaware (official empty nester!). Good luck to Lacey this weekend! Thanks for linking!

  17. It's crazy how early some schools are back in session! My former school always started after Labor Day, loved that! Glad you get a couple of more weeks of vacation to enjoy.

  18. Impressive to find your lens like that! I once dropped the screw out of my glasses hinge onto a gravel path (in the garden of Shakespeare's Birthplace, no less!) and a man found it for me while I panicked! Scared when hiking - I want to know more, as long as you're OK and it's now funny, of course. I'm thinking BEARS but that's because I'm in the UK. Or SNAKES.

  19. Gah!! I do not miss those days of contact lenses!! You are so lucky that you found the lens, were able to "hydrate" it, AND disinfect it at your eye doctor's office! Before I had LASIK, my eyes were so terrible, I'm not sure I could have walked 2 miles with one good eye and one "bad" without ending up with a huge headache or vomiting. UGH.

  20. Okay, now you've really got me curious about this hiking 'incident'!! Geez, maybe I should start running with an extra contact in a pocket in case this happens to me ...never thought about what I'd do if that happened. Good luck to Lacey on her triathlon!
