The Best Race Day Souvenirs

After you cross the finish line of a race, do you have anything you would consider a momento of the race?

I of course keep all my race bibs, t-shirts,  medals, and race day photographs. Whenever there is a big race expo, it's so tempting to want to buy jackets, headbands, glasses, magnets, and anything else that has a race logo on it.  Who wouldn't want a race souvenir?

I've really slowed down with all those expo goodies over the years. However, there are a few souvenirs (not bought at the expo) that I think are pretty special and will always remind me of the race I've accomplished.

1. This is probably my favorite souvenir, my NYC snow globe.  I got this snow globe after completing the NYC Half Marathon last year.  It was the perfect representation of that snowy weekend.  When you wind it up it also plays New York, New York.

2. We were staying at Disney's Polynesian resort and I was running my first Glass Slipper Challenge  Half Marathon and 10K, (including the 5k).  Our Housekeeper (or Mousekeeper) would see me bringing ice back to my room every so often (to ice my knee due to ITBS).  I was even laying on the bed with ice on my knee a few times she came in. She knew I was in pain.  The morning after the half marathon, she had left this Mickey with a bandage on his leg (and a little note), in our room!  I thought it was incredibly sweet.  I  have this Mickey sitting in my dressing room below my medals (and I still have the bandage on his knee).

3. I actually did purchased this jacket at a Disney expo to commemorate my first marathon, but I had it embroidered to say "Walt Disney World Marathon 26.2 " afterwards.  I don't wear it often because I do not enjoy half zips (which all the jackets were that year). The following year I ended up buying a marathon full zip which I wear ALL the time, but this one just seems special since it was customized for me.

Please share something about a special about your own race souvenirs! -M

  1. That was so sweet of the housekeeper -- what a special gift. And the snow globe is perfect.

I keep the bibs from my halfs, but not other races. And of course I have my mugs from most if the states I've done.

  2. The snow globe is adorable. I usually do not buy a momento of a race, with one exception. I have a Pandora charm bracelet (I am actually on my second one). Every time I run a marathon, hubby will buy me a charm to represent that race. For example, I have a teapot to represent Boston, a beehive to represent Utah (the beehive state), and a Liberty Bell to represent Philly.

  3. The Mickey with his little bandage is precious! That was SO sweet of your mousekeeper! I keep everything from races and I do love a good race jacket, although I too have slowed down on purchasing stuff at expos!

  4. So funny that you don't love half-zips! Half-zips are my favorite race-day souvenir. I have more than I need.

    1. I have yet to be at a race where they GIVE half zips. I definitely had to BUY that one. Actually I bought it twice. The first one ended up getting a stain on it.

  7. I love that NYC snow globe! We tend to get snow globes as vacation souvenirs :) I've gotten headbands as souvenirs at several races. I like them because I use them often and they're small and not too expensive :)

    1. I agree that headbands are actually a great race memento. I like trying to get those too if they have ones that represent the race or city I'm racing in.

  8. I like getting Starbucks mugs for the cities I have races in. I also bought a stuffed bear at Ethel M Chocolates when I was in Vegas. I'm not one for expo shopping, and fun little things like that Mickey are great! That was so sweet of your Mousekeeper.

  12. That snow globe is beautiful!!!! It's hard to pick a favorite race day souvenir. Probably the medals? I do save all my race bibs and write my finish times on them. I just have them on a binder ring, so they're easy to sift through (but they are in chronological order).

  13. The snow globe is cute! That is perfect to represent your NYC race. I know that was one of your favorite races. Like you, I keep my medal and shirt for sure, but I have gotten rid of shirts years later if I never wore them. The only time I bought "extra" mementos was at Boston. The first year I bought the official jacket, another jacket that was a little different, and a sweatshirt! Dang! Spendy, spendy that year. The second time, I only bought the official jacket. Actually, my mom bought it for me. :) It was sweet of her to do!

  14. I have saved every single race bib - they are hanging from a ring in my office. I do love to buy souvenirs at big race expos but lately I've stuck to t-shirts.

  15. My medals hang on my wall and I still have a lot of the participant shirts and bibs.

As far as purchased souvenirs, I got a t-shirt and necklace at my first ever race (an Olympic distance triathlon) and I have wine glasses from my first half, first full, and Wine & Dine. The Wine & Dine one wasn't "special" in the sense that it wasn't my first anything (not the first race, first challenge, OR first WDW race), but it fit my wine glass theme AND the race theme, so I decided I needed it for the collection. ;)
