Weekly Wrap...April 29

Wow, I cant believe we are wrapping up April.  I kind of thought this month was going to go by fast and I was right.

Loving my Easter Headband from Race Day Headbands

Between Easter, time off work, a race weekend at the Beach, and just busy stuff at work and at home, I just don't know where April went.  But that's okay because looks like we are headed for summer and I'm ready!

I have not run for the past two weeks and I feel totally okay about that because I've been doing an exercise routine at home. I know running does a lot physically for some people as far as weight loss and toning up, but honestly I've never seen physical results from running.

My quick at home routine consist of the following.

( I start off by foam rolling, just because I'm horrible at making time for it and if I do it before my routine I'm sure to get it in).

Jump roping  100
Crunches    3 sets of 10
Push -ups on the stability ball  3 sets of 10  ( the last set of 10 are always a challenge)
Russian Twists  6 sets of 10
Leg and arm stretches with the resistance bands (I'm sure there is a technical name for this but I don't know it).

My goal is to do this quick routine consistently for 30 days in a row.  I'm on day 12.   As I continue for the next 18 days I think I need to swap out the jumping rope to something else. Although it  is good cardio and doesn't hurt my knees while I am doing it, I can feel some discomfort from it later one.

What do you think I should swap out the jumping jacks for?

I'll be back to running in May since Baylee and I are doing the Wag a thon!

P.S I am currently watching Say Yes To The Dress and the lady looking for a dress plans to wear it to run a Half Marathon. Her and her fiance are getting married during the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in Las Vegas.

We are linking up with Wendy and Holly for their weekly wrap!

  1. This looks like a great workout routine! It can be really beneficial to change things up. I bet you will notice that your runs feel better too when you start up again!

    1. Yes, I am anxious to see if my running feels any different when I start up again!

  2. I had a dream about you last night! We went out to dinner and you had on a black and sparkly shirt and I told you I liked your shirt. That's it. :)

Your routine looks good! DO you go through each exercise once as a circuit and then go back, or do you do all 3 sets in a row with small breaks in between?

Let's see, instead of jump rope you could try mountain climbers! But 100 would be hard. You could do sets of 10 or 20.

    1. Hmmm, I think I actually do have a black sparkly shirt!
I do all three sets of the same exercise in a row and then move on to the next exercise.

  3. Jump roping is so hard! We do it at CrossFit as intervals and it always kicks my butt. Plus I am so uncoordinated that I'm either whipping myself with the rope or tripping over it.

    1. I find that jumping rope took a lot more out of me than I thought it would. I had to start out by only doing 50 and then pause and then do 50 more. I did that for a few days before I could do all 100 at once.

  4. You could try to swap out the jump ropes with jump squats. Since you have a treadmill you can also just do an incline walk for a real low impact exercise that will get your heart rate up. I saw someone getting married when I did RnR Vegas

  5. How cool that the lady on the show is getting married during the RnR race in Vegas! I may be going out to that for work!

  6. I was thinking mountain climbers or jump squats too, but maybe high knees? I like to start my day with a foam rolling - only way I can remember to do it consistently!

  7. I think that's a great 30 day goal and workout you've put together. But, I don't think I could do the jumping jacks. I tend to go with non impact cardio like cycling. I saw a bride and her maids of honor during a race in Nashville once. I thought that was pretty cool. I have no idea where the groom was. Thanks for linking!

  8. That's a good routine - lots of Russian twists! I'd do jumping jacks instead of jump rope, and spread out sets of 20.

  9. That has to be a pretty expensive dress coming from Kleinfelds....I don't think I would run in that lol.

hmmm....what about doing A skips, side shuffles and cariocas if you have space? Or like Deb said, you can do a quick treadmill warm-up.

  10. I saw that episode when it aired! It made me want to do RnR Vegas again, some day.

  11. I personally love my rest days so there are no 30 day challenges for me. :) But I do like mixing things up!

  12. I keep seeing that Say Yes, so much fun. And then I read Running the Smoke wherein a couple got married while running the London Marathon. Cannot even imagine.
It's funny how we all see different results from cardio or strenghth training. Good luck with your quest!

  13. Ahem...how about doing 10 flights of stairs for the jumping? ;-) (you probably saw that one coming, didn't you?)

  14. I love that you and Baylee are running the Wag-a-thon! How cute is that!

  15. I think it’s so smart to vary your workouts and yours looks like a good one! I agree with others who have suggested jump squats or mountain climbers - the other idea that came to mind for a low-impact substitute was step-ups. Looking forward to seeing how it continues to go for you!

  16. I love your Easter themed headband - so cute! I also really love your at home workout.

  17. So smart to get the foam rolling done before your workout! I'm so terrible at foam rolling and stretching, but I want to get better about it in May. Good luck with the Wag-a-Thon!

  18. That sounds like a great workout routine you have! That was a good idea to add foam rolling to the beginning of it. I haven't seen that episode of Say Yes to the Dress, how funny that she was looking for a wedding dress to wear during the race!

  19. Looks like a good fitness routine. I can't imagine running a race in a wedding dress - it must get really hot!
