Highs and lows of the week

This week there were some highs and there were definitely some lows. Lets get right into it shall we.

High
I traveled with some friends to an indoor water park in the Poconos!  It was huge. They claim it is the biggest one in the country (not sure if that is true) but my friends I went with did say it was bigger than the other two they have visited. There was just as much to do here for the adults as there was the kids. There were swim up pool bars (kids not allowed) that went into outdoor hot tubs. I would definitely do that again. It did not feel like the middle of winter while we were there. It was a perfect weekend getaway!

Low
On the way home a deer decided that he wanted to be friends with the front of my car.  DO NOT assume the worst right away. Although he caused over $1000 damage to my car, he was able to scamper away! I'm going to pretend that he recovered and will live to tell about it.

High
I was gifted $100 gift certificate to a yoga studio in town.

Low
Let's just say I am glad the class was free because I would not have wanted to pay to lay on the floor and breath in and out for an hour. I've never been a huge fan of yoga to begin with but I will give it another try (because it's free). I guess a little relaxation never hurt anyone.

High
Saturday was Launch day at our gym. We call it pump and pedal, a combination of the New Release of Body Pump 104 and RPM 77.  It was a great turn out and our Instructors rock! I love coming together as a team every couple months when the new music comes out to share with our members.
After we finished the two hour class, it was warming up for the day, so I couldn’t pass up another run outside (even though I was a bit tired from teaching two classes). It must have motivated me, because I ended up running 10 miles.

Low
I did have a little pit stop at McDonalds to use the restroom and I was a bit thirsty half way through my run (because you know me, I never carry water). I was going to just ask for a cup to get some water, but I didn’t know how they would feel since I wasn’t a paying customer.  Also I didn’t want to wait in the line, so I just put my hand under the ice machine and sucked on a few pieces of ice while I continued my run. Now that I think about it, that may have been worse than just asking for a cup!

High
With the weather being so warm, I was able to get in some good outdoor runs this week.  My mileage ranged from 6 to 13 miles per run and some days I even went out twice.  I even got to go walk at a local trail with my mom while we waited for my sister to do her run.

Low
Afterwards we went to Panera hoping they would still have that autumn squash soup available (I know it’s out of season, but I went in the beginning of the month and they still had it).  They didn't have it (insert sad face). I ended up getting their tomato bisque in a bread bowl instead. I normally wouldn’t do that, but after my classes at the gym and running all the miles this week, I thought I was good.

Low
After all my mileage this week, I was feeling tightness in my legs and could feel my shoes feeling very flat. I knew I was due for a new pair of shoes because my shoes have no wear in them anymore. If you read my post the other week about shoes, you know that I have been running in Brooks Launch for the longest time. They have put me through several marathons and my only problem is these shoes get holes in them so easily. Is it me or my shoes? I wanted to go up to the mall and try on some different pairs of shoes. I had no luck. I couldn’t even find my Launch’s that I like. I tried on a new shoe, the Brooks Revel, that are supposed to be very close to the Launch, but I wasn’t a total fan of them. I plan on going to the Running Store this week to get some suggestions on running shoes since they are the experts.

High
The trip to the mall wasn’t a total bust though, I did end up getting a massage while I was there. I had booked a massage the day before at a local spa, but that evening they called me to cancel it because the lady called out sick. Even though it wasn’t the massage I had planned for ( I never went to the massage place at the mall), it was still very relaxing and helped with my sore muscles.

  1. I'm so not into yoga either. I tried it, but it's just not for me! Paul and I loooooove water parks and we want to go to the big ones in the Poconos but... I don't want to deal with kids. I wish they had adults only water parks. :) Happy Friday, Lacey!

  2. That indoor water park sounds awesome! Im glad the deer seemed to be ok. You should definitely go to a running store to find out about the shoes. if you're going to get new Launches have you looked at Running Warehouse? Usually they have the best prices for older models.

  3. Oh I love the pump and pedal launch idea. Really wish my gym did RPM I've heard great things about it!

  4. I haven't ever been to a yoga class where all we do is lay on the floor and breathe! As you know I love yoga and it can be quite strenuous. Maybe you signed up for a restorative class?

Glad you are ok after you hit the deer. That can be bad!

  5. We used to have a few water parks around here but they've all closed. Like they've fallen out of fashion or something. Yikes on hitting the deer. That would've scared the crap out of me. Thank heavens it wasn't worse.

  6. I understand what you're saying about Yoga - I try to love it but I just can't. I'm hoping that at some point I will fall in love with it because it's so good for runners.

Sorry to hear about the deer and the damage to your car - I know that must have been scary!

  7. There are so many accidents w deer around here and people get really hurt. I am so glad that you are ok. The water park looks fun. I am trying out a new yoga spot today

    1. I bet your yoga spot is ten times better than the one I took. I am thankful I wasn't hurt, just my car.

  8. Sounds like it just wasn't the right yoga class for you. While breathing is important when it comes to yoga, it's not the only thing you should be doing! At all.

I'm glad you were ok after hitting the deer (and he or she apparently was, too) -- they can kill! So scary. I saw some on our run just last week.

One high is that Bandit has been sleeping through the nights again, so far, knock on wood. The low was he threw up his breakfast yesterday -- he's ok, he randomly does that but it had been a really long time. Thankfully he somehow managed to miss the pet bed so I didn't have to wash it (just pick up the mess, of course -- and I wasn't home when it happened).

Another low was that Mr. Judy came home early coughing up a lung again yesterday. The high was that he didn't disturb my sleep. He says he feels better and went into work today -- which is nice, because I have a lot of stuff planned to get done today, and it's always hard to motivate yourself when someone is lounging around (even if they should be).

    1. Aww poor Bandit! Something must not have agreed with him. Glad he is feeling better. I hope that Mr Judy doesn't give you his cough. Stay away!

  9. Oh, I think you are lucky the deer only did a bit of damage to your car! I'm with Wendy, I think you need to try a different type of yoga class - my class is hard and feels good at the same time.

    1. I am looking forward to getting my new pair. I ordered them the other day so they should soon be here. It always makes me more motivated to run knowing that I have a new pair on.

  11. Yoga doesn't do it for me either, snooze fest most of the time. New shoes is always fun. I to am going to believe the deer was good and is now with its family laughing about that stupid car. LOL

  12. An indoor waterpark sounds so lovely right now! It's been so cold this week.
Sorry about the shoes-- my husband gets holes in his too. I think it's just how your feet wear them? Maybe?

  13. Sorry about the deer and I think you need to try another yoga class!

High for me - in San Francisco all week enjoying the weather for running, eating yummy food and everything. Low - having forced fun every night and meetings all day!

  14. I struggle with yoga as well. I know that its beneficial, but I struggle with getting into it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I feel the same way about yoga! Every couple of months I try to give it another shot, but it never ends up sticking.

  16. Yoga has always been tough for me, but I know it's so goof or my running! Deer are surprisingly resilient aren't they!? I have a massage scheduled for today and can. not. wait!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Whew, glad you and the deer were OK - sucks about the damage, though. I still can't get over how you can run so far without water. I would literally croak!

  18. Does the yoga studio have class names and descriptions posted somewhere? That class sounds like yin or restorative yoga - it sounds like you might prefer a vinyasa or power yoga style.

  19. A lot of highs, at least. Hope you can focus on them.

Yikes about the deer. We have so many, it's a big fear for me.

I hesitate to try new yoga classes because I have experienced some bad ones.

  20. I've been doing yoga before bed, as stress relief and relaxation. It helps me get away from my phone and social media, and I feel ready for bed. I'm still waking up early, but I think I'm falling asleep faster.

  21. Yay for the highs, and boo for the lows, though none of them seemed terribly bad (except, of course, for the deer incident! Glad he/she and you are okay!) I keep trying to embrace the yoga thing. So far, not so much.

  22. I tired yoga when I was still in High School, and hated it because that's exactly what it felt like! But so many of my friends love it so I think I may give it another go although not too very enthused by the thought! I do like pilates though.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The indoor water park looks like a lot of fun! I always think of those places as being for kids but it sounds like this one had plenty of things for adults too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh that water park looks so fun!!! I'm so sorry about your car!! Gosh, that's seriously the worst!! Glad you're okay!!

  25. The Poconos water park looks really cool! Now I really want to check it out!

You had a very busy and active week! I hope the massage helped!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I go to Panera Bread in the fall just for their Autumn Squash Soup! I could eat it every day. The indoor water park sounds like a blast!

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's amazing how much damage a deer can do to a car. Glad you're ok and that the deer was able to run away. The indoor water park sounds like a lot of fun!

  28. That's an interesting yoga class... I've never been to one like that. Maybe try some different ones... like a vinyasa flow, or power yoga to get your heart pumping... maybe a yin class if you some good stretching.
