Ready to Launch...or not

I have been running in Brooks Launch for over three years now. I don’t know why companies always feel the need to keep changing the make of shoes when the prior model works well. However I have been fortunate to be able to wear each new model that they come out with. I currently have three pairs of Launches, two pairs of the Launch 4s and one pair of the Launch 3s.

It was just recently that I noticed that I have holes in my newest Brooks. I just bought these shoes in the beginning of Fall and I have not even been wearing them during every run since I have two other pair. I did not know these holes were even there until I didn’t wear black socks with them one day and saw the color of my sock poking out.

I noticed that my other Brooks Launch 4s have major holes in them as well. Is it the shoe or maybe I need a wide width? I do not remember getting holes in the first few pairs that I had (Launch 1 and 2).

I then looked at my Brooks 3 which are older than the 4s of course, and the hole is just starting. Could it be the company making a cheaper version of the shoe? I thought the shoe companies are supposed to change the shoes for the better when the newer models come out.

I was not even thinking about posting about this but I was telling my friend about my problem and he said I should mention this and see if anyone else has had this problem with this particular shoe.  I know I put a lot of miles on my shoes but I still feel like they should be lasting longer than what they do. Is it time to try another brand?  I remember the days when I would run in the same shoe for 8 months straight without swapping out shoes between runs and never had holes in them. Now I am barely making it a few months and I am getting holes on both sides.  Maybe I need to go up a half a size? But I do not feel like these shoes feel tight on me.  Any suggestions?

Has anyone else been running in Brooks Launch and have had this problem or is it just me? -L

We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.

  1. I have some Brooks that I'm just not happy with personally.
I always get holes in my shoes though. So I'm no help. I just assumed all shoes got holes in them easily. Haha

  2. I cant comment on this particular shoe but I can say in general I have never developed holes in my running shoes. I hope you figure it out!

  3. I don't think I have ever gotten holes in my shoes. Ive worn the Launches but I am not sure how many miles I put on them, I just stopped wearing them when I felt like they were losing their bounce.

  4. I have only run in Nikes and Mizunos and have never gotten a hole. I have seen people with holes like that though (although I don't know what shoes they were wearing). Could it be that some people are just prone to getting holes?

  5. I always get a hole in the back of my shoes, up by the ankle. I'm not sure why!

  6. It looks like the holes are in the exact same spot on the left and right shoes...could it be a "hot spot" from the seam of your sock?

  7. My mom has had similar issues with some of her Brooks Ghost sneakers. She has a few pairs of the Launch sneakers but she hasn't noticed any holes in those yet.

  8. I have been wanting to try the Launch shoe - and will pay close attention to holes now! I have gotten a few holes in my Ghosts... but that's because they're super old. No issues with newer shoes!

  9. I have never gotten a hole. I have many pairs that I rotate of the same shoe. I hate when they change a model that works for me.

  10. I also have never gotten a hole in a running shoes (and Brooks are part of my rotation, although not the Launch). I've never had a hole in my socks, either. Maybe it's the way I run? My socks do tend to wear out in the heel, although they last a long time and I'm not really a heel striker (although sometimes it looks that way in photos.

But it's soooooo frustrating when shoe companies change a good shoe. :( I think youre friend was right about posting though!

  11. You can ask the employees at your LRS. If there's a problem, they've probably heard about it. When I started having issues with ASICS, I got refitted, and mentioned my issues. They said they were hearing about a lot of problems with ASICS.

  12. Interesting. I don't wear Brooks so I don't know anything about the shoe but I'd be highly frustrated if that were happening to me. And I hate when shoe companies change a shoe and all the things I love about it change. So far, I've been lucky with my Saucony Kinvaras but I'm sure a change that doesn't work for me is right around the corner. :/

  13. I've never had holes form on any of my running shoe tops - that is odd, and honestly, I wouldn't like it. Maybe you do need a wider size?

  14. Wow that's crazy! Knock wood, I've never had a hole in one of my running shoes. Sounds like a design defect to me.

  15. I have never run in Brooks shoes but I think if you just got them recently I might think about returning them to the store. That is unacceptable!

  16. I also wear the Launch 4 and love them. I have 3 pairs that I run in and 10 new in boxes. I loved the 2 but not a fan of the 3. That is a bummer about the holes in your shoes. Of all of the pairs I've worn, I've never had a hole in them.
