Merry Fitmas!

Tis the season for holiday shopping and that's just what I've been doing lately, shopping for stuff for the gym that is.

As you know, I teach group fitness classes and do personal training so I felt I needed to update my equipment.

Here are few things that I bought.

1. This is called a Smart Step.  I bought this for my Body Pump class because we do chest presses on it as well as push-ups off it.

2. This is called a smart bar with the weight set. The weights are 10lb, 5lb, and 2.5lb.  The cool thing about this is that it slides right on and there is no clips.  The other cool thing is that these weights are easy to grip if you want to incorporate them in a workout without using the bar.

3. This is a Smart Band.  It is a resistance band with handles.  Generally the bands with the handles are the "tubes" and they are sometimes hard to use when you are doing moves that require you to step on (or with) the band.   I prefer the flat bands but they don't usually have handles on them. This one is cool because it has both!

4. I also ordered a 10lb Kettle bell.  The lightest Kettle bell I have now at the gym is 17lb and it the moves I am doing with my clients right now require a lighter weight.

5.  I plan to order another Bosu Ball.  The moves on this ball are endless. It makes for a great core workout and I've even taught classes using only the Bosu Ball.

Tell me some moves you you do using any of these pieces of equipment?  L

  1. These all look like great fitness products. I remember the Body Pump equipment I used to use did not look as nice as that! Does the gym not supply you with those products to use when you teach, or do you just like to have your own?

    1. The gym does have equipment but it is not as nice as this. This is the actually Lesmills equipment off their site. I got a discount since I am an instructor plus they were having a sale. I will probably just use this while I am practicing at home my releases. I may take it in to my other gym I coach clients at since they do not have anything like this there.

  2. I don't use any of those items on a regular basis but I've heard amazing things about the bosu ball! Looks like you have a bunch of great equipment!

  6. A set of resistance bands (also with handles) has served me well! They introduced me to the world of strength training 16 years ago :-)

    1. I have a really old tube that doesn't seem long enough, or maybe it just has too much resistance on it because there are certain moves I want to perform with it and it doesn't allow me to, so I am excited to get a new one.

  7. Great gifts for yourself! Right now I would love TRX cables (are they called cables?) for my home gym.

    1. Yes they are. I was thinking about adding another one to the gym but we have a few already and we don't have some of these other pieces of equipment. I have never used these until I started at this particular gym. There are so many moves you can do on these. A great core workout as well!

  8. My Bosu is one of my most-used pieces of equipment. I have a 10 and a 15 lb kettle bell at home and have to say I use the 15 more. But I'm a brute. Resistance bands are always awesome!

    1. I think 15 would work for a few of my clients, but unfortunately there is only a 17lb one so since we have to order some anyway, 10 would be better for the majority of my clients. But I agree, for myself a 15 would be perfect.

  11. I've thought about getting a kettle bell, but I'm not sure what I would do with it. I've never used one before, and I'm sure I need to research not only exercises, but proper form.

  12. I love my kettlebells. I actually need more but there's only so much room! Like I could use a 12 lb, because I have a 10 & 15 (and 20).

    1. It's good to have variety on those. I feel like kettle bells are becoming more popular in workouts. I once took a whole class using nothing but kettle bells.

  13. Can you tell me more about the Smart Bar? I want one! Is it 10 lbs each weight, or total?

    1. Well first I will say it is quite expensive. The weights come in a set so you have a 10, 5, and 2.5 lb weight on each side. Of course you can adjust these weight depending on what exercises you are performing. For instance, squats are largest muscle groups so you could probably use all these because it should be the heaviest of your weights. And when you get down to smaller muscle groups such as biceps, you could just have the 5 lb on each side.

  14. I need to go check out the smart step and bar! My most frequent move with the Bosu is to fall off of it LOL.

    1. Haha, that does require a lot of balance and works your core. Sometimes I even have trouble on certain moves and find myself wobbly at times.

  16. I think I am going to love it as well! We do not have any sandbags are gym. HEck maybe I should have ordered some of those.

  17. Ohhhh, I like that Smart Step ...I sooooo need that for BodyPump as well! I often times use less weights in class because it's so much trouble adding weights for lower body with the clips and all. I'll have to check into this!

  18. I used to do a lot more kettlebell, I feel I need to get back into it. I used to carry one around with me in my car... not sure why I did that.
