Weekly Wrap and a Race I forgot..April 24

Wow, another week down and a new one beginning again already. I don't know about you but this Spring is going way too fast. I don't mind though because I am definitely ready for summer!

Last week in the weekly wrap I said that I currently had no races on my calendar. Well, I totally forgot that I will be running a
5K in May.  I'm not running it for myself though so I really have no time goals. I'm running it with Girls on the Run.  I have two English Language Learners in my class that are twin sisters and I told them that I would be their running buddy. They are very excited and they call it "the Girl Run". They are so cute!

In other exciting news, I signed up for a fitness challenge at work. They gave each of us a Fitness tracker for FREE that I am very excited about and plan to use even after the challenge is over.  We have to get in 10,000 steps each day and then we are eligible for prizes. This has really kept me motivated. I reached over 20,000 steps last week except for Friday. I really just wanted to crash on the couch and relax. I did walk 2.5 miles at the Island with Scott so I could at least reach my 10,000 step goal.

This week I got in 15 miles on the bike and 17.75 miles running or walking that I actually tracked with my Garmin. (I did a few other smaller walks that I did not track)  On Wednesday after work I set out for my normal 4 miles and I struggled to even get 3 in because my foot pain was so bad. I ended up walking all of the 4th mile.  I don't want to keep complaining about this stupid foot pain but I will say this, I really thought ITBS was the worst pain of my life, but at least I was able to get from point A to point B (very slowly) but my feet still worked. With this foot pain, each step is a challenge!  Even walking I've noticed that I can only walk about 2 miles before the pain comes.  I still have a gift certificate for a massage so I am going to make an appointment to have a leg and foot massage before I go to the podiatrist. I've actually seen a foot doctor many years ago before I started running so I'm pretty sure I already know what the problem is.    Hope you all had a great week!  -M

  2. Ugh sorry to hear about your foot pain! Oh my gosh we are the same- whenever my foot hurts I am always like "holy crap, why did I complain about my ITB???"

That is a cute story that your students call it the Girl Run. :)

Paul's dad played at Allenberry for the last time on Friday night! Apparently they are unable to sell it (they had someone who was going to buy it but it fell through) so now they are like OUT OF MONEY. So sad. He's been playing there for 21 years!

    1. No doubt that ITBS is painful. I didn't think there would be another injury worse than that.
That's too bad about Paul's dad. Too bad about Allenberry too. We always enjoyed our weekends there.

  3. Oh no :( I am sorry that you are having so much foot pain. I once had a broken foot, and although it was temporary, it really put a cramp in my entire life. I hope your foot issue is something easily treatable. Sending good, healing vibes your way!!!

  4. Yeah, I can sympathize with the foot pain. I still have a neuroma that developed after my stress fracture. Feet are extra sensitive, I think. How fun to run with the girls from school! I know they'll appreciate your encouragement at the "Girl Run". That's a great work challenge and it's pretty sweet they gave you a tracker too. Thanks for linking with us Meranda!

  7. Really sad to hear the foot is still bothering you. I hope you get it resolved soon. :( We don't have a local Girls on the Run chapter here, but I wish we did. You're a great role model for those girls!

  13. I am right with you on this Spring is flying by!!! How neat you are running with twin sisters! You'll teach them so much, but don't be surprised they teach you a thing or two about something, lol
How neat about the fitness challenge at work and to get a tracker too, it really does motivate you to move more! I have a fitbit and have been seen walking down my road after 10PM getting in my steps. #ThestruggleISreal! I so hope you find out what is going on with your foot Meranda, I know how frustrated you sound. If it is not one thing it's another. Thanks for linking up with us.

  14. My son's teacher is also doing a Girls on The Run 5K in May! I always miss the Spring Run, because we have a family 5K the same day! But will for sure do the fall one!

Can I ask you, do they have other ways of helping GOTR? I am able to commit to coaching, but would still love to help out!

    1. You can volunteer to be a running buddy. This way you are only committed to running on race day.

  15. The GOTR 5K is going to be great! A bunch of my friends are coaches, and I just love the great stories that come from their training and runs.

I hope your foot heals soon. Foot pain is tricky and a literal pain. :(
