10 Blog Post ideas for when you are feeling un-inspired

Earlier this week we talked about our thoughts on blogging. Between the two of us we generally don't have a problem with coming up with content. We like to talk.  If you've ever met either of us in person, you would probably agree.  Also, with two of us working on the blog, we always have at least one race on the calendar we are training for, which also makes it easier for us to come up with content.  However, we do understand that sometimes coming up with content can be a challenge, especially if you are not training for anything but still want to keep your blog fitness related.
Here are a few ideas for those of you who want to keep a consistent blogging schedule but sometimes struggle with ideas.
blog ideas

1. We recently jumped on the bandwagon and have done a few
WIAW posts (What I Ate Wednesday).  This isn't something that we would do every week but sometimes it could be fun to see what other people make for dinner.

2. Keeping with the food theme, "What's in My Cart".  I once saw a blogger document her trip to the grocery store and show all the things she bought.  She took a photo of all the healthy items in her cart and explained what they were and why she bought them (although she could have also bought three packs of Oreos and a bag of Snickers bars and we would never know).  We have never done a post like this but it might be fun to see what other people's grocery staples are.

3. "What's in your fitness closet".  Show us your favorite workout outfits. It would be fun to see what outfits other runner's wear, especially if you wear something other than black and grey.  We love seeing colorful workout gear!

4. Show us where you do most of your workouts.  Do you have a home gym? A work gym? Most people show little more than a selfie on a treadmill, but you could make a post out of this by showing us where you spend your time working out.

5.   Okay, I know this is another food related post but I think food posts are always good because everyone can relate to them. Each season you could share your top 5 favorite meals to make. We tend to make more comfort foods in the winter month but like to find "lighter" meals when the weather warms up.

6. "What Your Loving Lately". I admit that I really like these posts when bloggers talk about a few things they've been crushing on lately ( you could make these post themed or just random). This usually introduces us to a few new products. We haven't got in the habit of doing these types of posts but on Sunday's we often include some new products that we've tried that week.

7. We always find "A day in the life" posts fascinating, more specifically, what it is you do at work. Most people say that their work is pretty boring but I'm sure that someone who does not work in your field will find it interesting.

writing prompts8. You may be a seasoned runner or maybe you are a beginner but regardless of your experience,
there might be questions that you still have about something. Maybe it's about a shoes, an injury, fuel, etc.  Make a list of questions that you have always wondered about. Chances are, others who enjoy your activity may have been wondering those same things and more than likely you will have readers that will be able to answer some of those questions. If you don't ever have questions about anything, perhaps you can share your favorite tips you've learned from another runner or blogger.  (If you are not a running blogger this post could easily transfer to any  topic you are interested in.)

9. Join a link up. Currently we try to participate in Tuesday's on the Run and The Friday 5. The group of gals who run these link ups have pre-set blog topics.  This is great for those who have trouble coming up with topics on their own.

10. You can always just Google "Blog post prompts"  and you get tons of very generic prompts for every day of the month. I personally would stay away from these because if you have a "themed" blog, (fitness, running, cooking, etc), some of these blog post ideas may seem a little out of  character for you. To be honest, I think most of the blog post prompts on the lists I've seen sound like essay prompts you would write in English class.

Have you used any of these prompts before? What inspires you ?

  1. These are some really good suggestions. I have enjoyed link-ups that give prompts for days when I am out of ideas. I always like reading other people's "day in the life" posts but I have never really done my own. Making a list of questions is also a good idea!

  2. Great suggestions! Like you, I rarely have problems coming up with topics for a blog post. As a matter of fact, on this week off for vacation, I'm really missing blogging!

  3. You have given some great ideas for bloggers who need help with a topic! Since we are in the same situation as you, two bloggers and one blog, we rarely have trouble coming up with post inspiration ideas. We do mainly stick to running, but occasionally we enjoy talking about other life stuff. The grocery cart idea is interesting but I think my post would be so boring. We seem to eat the same stuff week after week!

  4. I have googled "blog post ideas" before haha. I post every day and it is just me, so once in awhile I do wonder what to say. Each week I have a workout recap and a weekend wrap up, so there are 2 easy days. Just 5 other days to worry about... haha!

I personally love reading Day in the Life posts, especially if there are pictures. Now, I have read blogs (and quit reading them) because EVERY day was a day in the life post. It got VERY repetitive. Boring. But once in awhile I love it!

  5. All great ideas! I keep a running list of go to ideas for when I'm stumped on what to write about, and the few times I've needed to rely on this list, I've found them to be very handy!

  7. I'm normally good at having topics to discuss, but sometimes topics or linkups help me to brainstorm. I recently dipped a toe into the Thinking Out Loud because I realized Thursday is my random day of the week.

    1. We've also made out Thursdays a "thinking outloud" of sorts. That's just our day to be random!

  14. These are some great ideas! Even though my blog isn't primarily fitness related, I could see myself using some of these or adapting them. Especially like the idea for the "What you're loving" posts! That could work for any blog :)

  15. I actually took photos of my grocery cart this week for a future blog post. :) It's definitely one of the more questions I get from people and I know I love reading posts about food for new ideas (but mostly I just love food).

  18. I almost wrote a "Day in the Life" post a couple of weeks ago and then thought people would think it was boring! Maybe I'll do it.

Also, I love the Top 5 Meals idea...what do you think about maybe coordinating and trying to get a few bloggers to do it on a certain day and it'll be sort of like a recipe swap??!

  25. Yummy to Gu, Honey Waffles, Lara Bars and Nuun. I haven't quite figured out how/when to use the honey waffles.

I used the Berry flavored UCAN and Nuun and GY while training for RnR DC. Still working on how to use properly and effectively.

  29. A day in my life post would truly be boring! I'm a governmental accountant, so there are lots of meetings and spreadsheets! :) I'm getting more into food posts as I'm cleaning up my diet though!

  30. Great suggestions. #6 and #7 are two of my favorite things to read on blogs especially when they just post them at random. Sometimes just random thought and ideas are the most entertaining to read.
