Summer Running Inventory

The weather is getting significantly warmer here (92 the past few days) and it has brought to light that I need to take inventory of what I'll need for summer running!

I NEED some new shorts. I just don't seem to have enough. I have plenty of running skirts, but need just plain old shorts. I picked up these Avia ones with built in bloomers for less than $10. I'm not picky. I like that they are multi-color that way I can match a variety of tops with them.

I'd like to get some new tank tops. I'm gonna declare that the ones I have have "shrunk" over the years. I like mine to be loose and flowy in the belly area. No one wants their shirt sticking to their gut in this heat and humidity!

Running shoes- Check. I got these Mizunos last summer and I wore them only for the 4th of July race and I think the Running of the Elves 5k ( cus they are red), and a few small runs. They have lots of life left. Plus, I got a new pair of Mizunos for Christmas that I only ran the NYC half in. I should be good on shoes. Besides, I have several other pairs that have lots of miles left in them. For some reason I am not very hard on shoes ( says my PT).

Flip belt and bottle- I will definitely be breaking out the flip belt and flip belt water bottle. I rarely carry water when I run but if it's going to be this hot, I'm going to need it. The best part is now I can carry it hands free!

I would like to invest in more sports bras but I'm having a hard time finding ones that actually snap in the back ( those are the only kind I'll buy). It's not worth dislocating a shoulder  trying to take off a sports bra after a hot and sticky run. Do you have any suggestions?

What are your summer running must haves? -M

  1. I am still on the hunt for sports bras I like. I have some cute ones but they are so bulky for summer running. -- Coco

  3. I could definitely use some new sports bras too. I keep mine way longer than you're supposed to. I think all the ones I have are from Target or Walmart. I really want to get one of those flip belt water bottles!

  4. All of my shorts are in good shape, but I'd like some funky ones...like the multi-colored ones pictured. AS for bras....I'm okay with the traditional "pullover" ones. I did get one (at Target?) that zips up the front, but it's really hard to get it zipped LOL It's almost a two-person job.

  5. You are not alone on the tank "shrinkage" thing. Ugh. What I really really need is a hydration backpack I love.

  6. I love my Champion bras--they clip in the back and they are supportive. I ordered them online from Kohls.

  7. It's great to take inventory. I did that last weekend and realized that I need more shorts. I'm on the search for mid length compression shorts (I can't wear the booty shorts, lol)

  8. I was thinking I'm doing pretty good inventory-wise, I have lots of skirts (don't run in shorts anymore), socks, shoes, etc., until I got to sports bras. Um, yes, This is what I need. Badly, lol.

  9. 100% agree on loose tanks! Shirts sticking to you might be one of the worst things. I'm super picky about sports bras also. I don't have to have a clasp in the back but I always have a hard time finding some that I think are comfortable. I've had really good luck with the C9 brand from Target, plus they're not overly expensive so that's an added bonus!

    1. I just can't seem to do the ones that don't have a clasp. I guess I need to work on my coordination 😉

  10. I just shake my head at all you dehydrated runners. How do you do it?

I do really like my Skirtsports Kelly B-DD bra (of course wait for a sale, though). Not only doesn't it latch in the back, there are 4 rows of hooks! It's my favorite bra & I wear it for all my long runs & many races.

Although for shorter runs I do like a pullon racerback, but then again, I'm not well endowed.

    1. It was actually thanks to you that I learned about the bottle for the flip belt!

  11. I wish I had some good sport bras recommendations - I'm on the hunt too - everything seems to have weird padding giving madonna cone boobs - I'm not about that.

  12. I desperately need new shorts - but I'm struggling with chafing between the thighs :( I have a sports bra from Old Navy that hooks in the back that's not bad. Otherwise, I desperately need new sports bras as well!

  13. I have plenty of tank tops, but I would like another pair of shorts since the Skechers ones I was sent are a bit too big. I want to try the Oiselle Roga, and REI has those here. I'd also like a couple more shirts with sleeves. And more sunscreen. I can never have too much of that.

  14. I love the color of those shorts!!

My favorite sport bras have been from Target, they have the clip on ones and the race backs. Unlucky for me, the raceback ones the only ones that hold me together. good luck with your search!

    1. Looks like I'll have to check Target. I prefer the racer back ones as well.

  15. I took inventory a few months ago and have some nice new socks as a result. :)

Still need some new bright shirts so I can be seen in the dark when I run in the early morning - other than that, I think I'm good. Not looking forward to all the heat and humidity that will be never-ending for months, though.

  16. Good idea to take inventory. I need more sports bras too. I just ordered some new trail shoes since I want to do more trail running, so excited to get those.

  17. I wear only a sports bra in the summer because I don't like anything tight OR loose on my belly! Luckily when I found awesomely comfortable yet cheap shorts at Wally World 1-2 years back, I bought like 12 pair! So hopefully they last awhile and I don't grow out of them!

    1. I have a few pair from there that I still wear. Fortunately my shorts don't really "wear out".

    2. I have had some that have worn out but only ones that I have had for like 7+ years. And I used to only have like 4 pairs of shorts I like so now that I have so many I will wear them less often and hopefully last a lot longer!

  18. I get it! I tried in a few this week and a lot of them have a weird gap under the arm hole.

  19. I am very picky with my sports bras too- the Champion line at Target is great for the price.
