What I'm capturing on a run!

I've always got into the habit of logging each and every run (outside runs not treadmill ones), and if it's a memorable one like the few I've had over the years, I'll share about it on the blog. I've been told I'm a good story teller so I do hope you enjoy reading about those "memorable runs".

One thing I haven't done was the whole picture thing. I was never a huge fan of the taking of the selfies after each run and then posting to social media.  It's like "3 miles done"  take a selfie, post it!   "5 miles done", take a selfie, post it!   It's almost as if these selfie posters think that if they don't post proof that they ran, then it didn't really happen.

BUT NOW I finally get it. Maybe it's not about the "selfie" or the "instant sharing" or the "self gratification" that one might be seeking if others comment on their post.  MAYBE it's about keeping a record and making memories.

I admit that although I'm not a constant "selfie poster", I have been sharing some lately. I do mix it up with some scenery and sky pics during my runs too. I feel like I do this because I want to remember and look back. I feel like every run is a memory to be made whether or not it was a "memorable" one or not.

A gorgeous fall run. No filter

For example, this is a pic I posted on IG this fall. I don't remember one thing about the actual run, but I do remember how gorgeous the weather and the sky were for a fall morning and how great I felt. So now in my mind, I will remember this as a good run.

I don't always run with my phone but I've been bringing it more often so I can capture scenes like the one above or like the one I posted last week about seeing 6 deer right on my path.  What do you like to capture on your run? Or are you more of a "get it over with, no time for pictures" runner?  I admit that I do get like that sometimes too. -M

  1. I laughed at your comment about if you don't post it it didn't happen--that's what we were laughing about on Saturday. I don't do it for the comments, I started posting to drive people to my blog. Now I do it because I love the interaction. I also love the challenge of taking a picture that people will actually leave a comment on!

    1. Do you post most of your running pics on IG or Facebook? Is that how you are hoping people come to your blog?

  2. I like to see the places people are running, wildlife, races and favorites of most anything. Fun picture of the deer that you posted! My problem is when they run off before I get a good pic!

    1. I love seeing wild life on my run (as long as they aren't too scary....lol).

  3. I usually don't stop mid run to take pics, but will stop afterward and sometimes try to take one if the weather is nice! You've got some cool ones!

    1. I never stop during a run either unless I see something special like those deer. I usually take pictures afterwards.

  4. I love to take pictures while I run.

  5. Since I run/walk, I sometimes have time for photos (not always at a scenic spot -- although sometimes I just pause the run for that).

I'm kind of over the whole runfie thing, but have gone more to taking photos of the scenery.

    1. Yes, I've been all about scenery pics lately. I think in part that's because I am fascinated by the sky and the weather! (and believe it or not I didn't do to well in my meteorology class).

  6. You know me - picture taking is in my blood. I love taking pictures on every outside run. If I'm on the treadmill, I'll still do it - but not as inspired as all the beauty around when you're out in nature.

  7. I normally don't take pictures because it is dark when I run. There are prob more cat pics than running pics on my blog! If I do drive somewhere pretty to run on the weekend I will try to take pics.

    1. I can understand not taking pictures in the dark. Besides, if I was running in the dark I'd want to just finish and get it over with.

  8. I used to wonder about why some runners post running selfies... I can never get one to come out good, my hair doesn't stay in place, my face is all sweaty!

I prefer to the pictures of the scenery around me, sometimes that reminds me if I had a good run or not.

    1. I use to wonder how much "running" actually took place by all those bloggers and IG-ers who took so many running pictures of themselves! They are nice to look at though but I bet they are time consuming!

  9. I enjoy the photos, I like seeing what other people see when they run :) And I'm with you, sometimes I take a photo on the run of pretty scenery or just something that helps me remember what that particular run was like.

  12. I totally get the pics as memories thing. Seeing old running pics definitely takes me back to that time. I have gorgeous scenery out where I run so I like to capture it.

  13. I do the selfie pics to remember what I ran and for the memories, I use it as a running log.for some reason it seems easier than writing it all down.

  14. I am not a huge selfie person...mainly because I am selfie challenged. But I do like to take a picture of something on the run, just to record the moment. Usually it is the sky and the sunrise! Makes a great running log.

  15. I like to take running selfies if I have a great view, but sometimes I really want to focus on my run and not stopping to take a picture for IG, lol.

  16. I definitely think twice before posting selfies and try to space it out with scenery or other pics because it still feels awkward to me, but like you said, I love having that record!

  17. Like you said, I like keeping a record of my runs. :) I also like seeing where others are running and what their scenery looks like! :)

  18. The post-run selfies can be SOOOO boring! I try to make mine interesting with shots of the road, my shoes, the sky, etc. No one is probably interested in just seeing me smile (albeit in different clothes each time LOL). But, I agree...they help document the experience and if one person gets motivated to head outside for a run, then mission accomplished ;-)

  19. Mostly I am a get it over with runner. I've done 4 Disney races and not once did I pull over to get a picture. I wait until the race is done, I'm showered, and back in the parks.

  20. I try to take pictures when I'm out on the run, but they are rarely of me! I am TERRIBLE at selfies!

  21. You know, this is an interesting topic. I used to post about my runs on Facebook and actually got more negative comments/feedback from those who thought "if you don't post about it,it didn't happen" or thought I was "bragging". I never take pictures either during a run, unless I "run" across something extremely interesting. But, like most, I usually take a picture of myself or scenery afterwards...I, honestly, do it to try and motivate others to begin an exercise program. I want them to see how enjoyable exercise can be. I found that Instagram is a much more receptive platform for fitness selfies than facebook, by far! Everyone is motivated by different things ...it's the beauty of what makes the world go around :)

  22. I completely agree about making memories and that each run is, no matter whether it's good or bad!

  23. I like to take pictures when I run... either of the scenery, wildlife or of me running. I've gotten better at figuring out how to do the running pictures, so it doesn't take too long. I take them for my blog, instagram, and sometimes facebook ... I limit the facebook ones because I've heard negative comments... but I continue to post some because I've also heard positive comments about how I've inspired someone or another to take up running or to run their first 5k ... that makes it seem worthwhile to me.
