After completing the 8k on the 4th of July I didn’t run the rest of the week. I thought I would just take it easy. I have had many late nights, which results in sleeping in the next morning. By the time I get up it is already 90 degrees out. As much as I love running, there comes a time when I just have to say not today.
Since it has been so hot out, my running buddy and I decided to do another activity rather than running. We went kayaking. It has been years since we had both been, but we thought it would be something fun and different. The best part was we got to kayak to a winery, even better.
We arrived at the dock where we placed our kayaks in and met our guides. They gave us a quick demonstration on how to maneuver the paddle, and then we were off. During our ride the guides even gave us some history about the land and properties we were passing on the way. I got the hang of it pretty quickly, but it was still a lot of work. A great upper body workout! I said to my friend, I think we could have run there faster. It was only about 2.5 miles but it felt much longer!
We finally arrived at the winery and we met up with another couple that had kayaked there as well. We sampled several white and red wines while enjoying a cheese and bread platter.
We then got to have a glass of our favorite kind while touring the property. Before we left, we even received a bottle that was included in our kayaking package. We made sure our guides rode back with that in their kayak (not taking any chances there). On the way back, it felt like it didn’t take as long, maybe because we knew where we were going by then, or maybe after the wine, it just felt quicker. We then docked our kayaks and headed home. It was such a fun and relaxing afternoon. A nice change of pace from what I have been doing lately. -L

I would love the details about the winery you were able to access by kayak! That sounds perfectly awesome!
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with doing something different than running, and that kayak trip sounds great!
ReplyDeleteKayaking to a wine tasting is my way to kayak.
ReplyDeleteHow cool this is! I'd definitely be on board with this activity. It's awesome they included a bottle in the package too. Running in the 90s is no fun whatsoever. My activities have been all over the place trying to avoid this heat. Thanks for linking with us, Lacey!
ReplyDeleteWhat a kayaking trip to a winery? Oh man this would be right up my ally!
ReplyDeleteI love to mix up fun things that get your body moving and I do know from experience what an upper body workout kayaking can be! Were you sore the next day?
Thanks for linking up with us!
That sounds like a great way to stay active while your not running! And even better that your trip included some wine!
ReplyDeleteThat sound wonderful! I wish I had options here like that in the summer, but most of the wineries I know of in DFW aren't near any kind of water.
ReplyDeleteOh, you know I'd be all over this! Kayaking is so fun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun day! I felt the same way the one time I kayaked--that I could have crawled and got there faster, ha ha! I'm sure the wine was worth it though!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a wonderful time! Plus to kayak to a winery - super cool!
ReplyDeletekayaking + wine. Sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I love kayaking but don't get to do it much. It sounds even better when you get to stop at a winery :)
ReplyDeletekayaying and wine! plus cheese and bread? Where can I send my money to? except I couldn't kayak back after wine, I would need a nap.
ReplyDeletethat sounds amazing-kayaking to a winery! I just went wine tasting two weeks ago and had a blast
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun. I can't run in the heat of the day either. I either have to go early morning or late evening.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog via the linkup on HoHo Runs. Following you now. Hope you'll check me out too.
