Please Entertain Me!

I just recently started to get back to the things I love doing and one of those things was reading.  I know I've made a goal to finish each of my running magazines for the month BEFORE the next month's issues arrived in my mailbox. I think that last oh, maybe two months.

The last book I "read" was actually an audio book I listened to (which is my preferred method of "reading" these days because I feel like I can multi-task while doing it).  But since summers are suppose to be for lazy days by the pool, I figured I'd get some books I can actually run my fingers through.  Oh, excepts as much as I'd love too, I can't take my books out by the pool because I have a Labrador that swims and then shakes all over. So my reading needs to take place on the front porch!

Besides running and writing, here's what's been entertaining me lately..........

Run to Lose: A Complete guide to weight loss for runners.   This book was actually a gift from the good people at Runner's World. I received it about a years ago but because my goal for running has never been to lose weight, I never opened it up.  Now that my summer clothes are getting to be too tight, I think it's time I start practicing some of their tips.  I only just started but can share what I've learned in a future post if anyone is interested.

I am always inspired by all the books my blogger friend Rebecca reads so I decided to go to my local library on Monday (which is conveniently located right next to my favorite trail) and pick up a few books.  My picks were.....

The Secret Lives of Fortunate Wives by Sarah Strohmeyer.  I discovered Sarah Strohmeyer  because I use to hang out in the "S" isle of the Library A LOT ( because I only use to read Danielle Steel books).  Turns out, there are a lot of other authors out there that are just as good...lol.  So I've read quite a few of Sarah's other books including The Cinderella Pact,(which is also a movie) and the Sleeping Beauty Proposal both which were VERY good.

The Friends We Keep by Susan Mallery was a last minute pick for me. I saw it on a display as I was checking out and thought, why not.  I am on chapter 4 on this one already. It is about 3 ladies who live on the California coast ( Mischief Bay).  It wasn't until I was looking on Amazon for an image of this book that I found out it is part of a book series (the Mischief Bay series). And now I wonder where in the series this book falls.

Lastly, I know this isn't a book, but I have received countless hours years of entertainment from this series!  My Dallas!

Over the years, I've watched every single episode (14 seasons on dvd) of this series.  I would like to say they were some of the best years of my life...lol.  I would watch them before bed at night and that may be why I missed out while everyone else in the world was hooked on shows like Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, etc.  It has been 8 years since I completed the series and I wondered if I'd ever watch them again.  Until last night. I decided I was going to try to get through this series all over again. I probably should have started this earlier this summer.

Have any of these same books (or show) entertained you? M

  1. Way to get back into reading! I really need to do it too but just haven't found the time. I've got my Runner's World magazines backed up. Hubby always tries to throw them out, but I keep em thinking I will read them. ;) The Strohmeyer books sound interesting!

  3. Those books sound interesting!

I know what you mean about getting away from reading.. I get caught up reading blogs and with other social media. the way I think about it is that there is more interaction than with reading a book.

I've never seen Dallas. I recently started re-watching Sex and The City, that show just sucks me in!

  6. Great book selections! I need to get back into reading. I used to read nearly every single night, but that was before I had five children.

  7. I always want to get into audiobooks for long runs, but I just get worried that I'll download a new book and hate it. It's easier to flip through a real book and see if it looks good!

I've been rereading Harry Potter this summer, but I have a few books on my kindle that I'm excited to get to!

  12. I need to get reading again, it's been months. I just find that by the time I get to bed I'm so tired I just go to bed early. This summer heat has really gotten to me.

  13. I have been horrid about reading. I have 12 books stacked by my bed I swore I would get to this summer, but then instead I have been streaming NetFlix.

  14. I read 2 books this past week, one self help book and one by Nicholas Sparks, the Choice. It was pretty good, it took me less than 24 hours to read it. It had been so long since I had read a book, I have the hardest time staying focused now. My favorite "newly discovered" author is Kristin Hannah. I read 2 books of hers and LOVED them. I strong recommend The Nightengale. Otherwise, I keep buying books and never get around really to finishing... ugh.
