Disney's Wish Came True with a Frozen 5K

 Frozen

The first race of the Princess Race weekend is the 5K. It use to be called the Royal Family 5K but it looks like it has since changed its name to just the Princess 5K and this year it was the Frozen 5K, literally.

I never ended up showing our race day outfits for the 5K before we left for Florida, so here they are.
snow white and pocahontas
Snow White and Pocahontas. Our mom ran with us and she was Belle.  Now of course this is what we "Planned" on wearing. But the weather on Friday morning was freezing ( and I'm not exaggerating), so these outfits called for a few more layers. I had a base layer long sleeve PLUS my throwaway jacket with a hood underneath my Snow White shirt and I had fleece leggings AND Tights on under my skirt. Lacey and mom also had a base layer, long sleeves and leggings on under their outfits as well. My mom loved her new Rock City Skirt!  Notice the bow in my hair? That was made by my lovely friend Kim. She also gave my mom a "Belle inspired" bow to wear.

These bows are made of quality material and Kim can make them with a barrette clip or an alligator clip. She can really make any design you would like. Aren't they fabulous?  She sells them on Etsy. Be sure to check out her Facebook Page All Things Disney Bows and her instagram @AllthingsDisneybows

You may remember me saying from earlier this week that my flight was delayed by 7.5 hours so I never made it to the expo on Thursday evening to pick up my bib. Well, I had no idea that we were able to pick them up on race day, so this was such a relief and a great option!  The only problem was that when we got to the runner relations tent to pick them up that morning, there was such a long line Even though my sister already had her bib ( she was able to make it to the expo because her plane was NOT delayed), she waited in line with me. We ended up missing our corral and had to jump in a further one. This really wasn't a big deal since it was just a fun run anyway but since we were further back, we ended up waiting longer in line for character pictures.

Characters

We were so excited to see that the classic Disney characters, Minnie, Mickey, Pluto, and Goofy were on the course because we rarely see them during a 5K.  However, Since it IS the Princess 5K, we thought that it was odd that there were no princesses on the course (or characters from Princess movies). I thought that perhaps since it was SO cold that morning that maybe a switch was made at the last minute. Maybe Disney didn't want "Face" characters on the course for that long and thought these "costumed" characters would be able to stay warmer for the length of the race.

We were glad to see that in the center of Epcot there was of course a stage with Frozen characters up on it, for Display purposes only. You couldn't get pictures with them. Could you imagine how long those lines would be?

A few characters we found after the finish line.

I have to say that I believe this was actually one of the coldest races I've ran. I kept my gloves on during the race and only took them off for pictures. During those few seconds I could feel my fingers becoming numb. I wonder if this is really what Disney had in mind when they named it the Frozen 5K?

5k medal
Minnie really liked our "medals".

What was the coldest race you've ever run? For those of you who ran the 5K during marathon weekend, was this one colder?

We ran Disney's Enchanted 10K the next day. You can read about that HERE.

  2. It really was cold for the 5k probably for the first time ever at that race. Your costumes came out really cute and so glad you could pick up your bib prior to the race. We did know about the bib pickup on race day for those with travel delays.

    1. We have ran that race for the past 5 years and I don't remember even needing a throw away!

  3. The costumes look great! I think my coldest race was a 5k last December, and I think it was just barely 30 degrees. Once I was running it was fine but waiting around to start was the worst part!

    1. I would say it was just a tad over 30 degrees there too. Waiting in line for the pictures was really cold!

  4. CUTE costumes girls!! Looks like you guys got some really cute character photos even if the lines were longer. There seemed to be a dearth of princesses in every race, which seemed odd to me but I love the traditional characters in their winter apparel. Super cute! -C

    1. I was thrilled to see the fab 5 characters out but still thought maybe there would have been more princess. I don't understand how you can call it a princess race when there were no princess on the course!

    1. Thanks Wendy! My Snow White costume was a recycled costume I wore to Mickey's Halloween party last year!

  6. Such great costumes! At least you packed extra layers to keep warm during the race. Luckily I haven't done a Disney race in the cold but I've heard about them. Disney should think twice before naming another race after Frozen.

  8. So glad to hear that other than the long line you didn't have any issues picking up your bib the morning of the race. And you three looked absolutely adorable in your costumes! Did you have any trouble picking up your 5k shirt later on at the expo?

  12. Super cute costumes, and your extra layers didn't detract from them at all. I've run a couple of (literally) frozen races - all you can do is layer, and hope to warm up after a couple of miles (which probably didn't help you guys since it was only a 5K).

  13. Your costumes are all awesome! You looked great in them layered up :)
I couldn't believe how cold it was for the 5K! The Frozen medal is great and totally appropriate lol Minnie couldn't be any cuter in her winter look. You have some awesome character pictures, I didn't do quite as well with that.

  14. Oh my gosh ladies those costumes are AMAZING! Seriously I always think your race costumes are some of the best, they should really start giving awards at those Disney races for great costumes!!!

  15. OMG, how cute are the two of you? LOVE IT!! The coldest I have ever raced in was in the low teens. Coldest I ever trained in was -10ish with the windchill last Winter....brrr!

  16. I love all your costumes! All three of you look awesome, even with the cold weather gear on underneath. It's crazy that it was that cold there!

  17. Your costumes look great! The bows are terrific I'll have to check them out.

  18. your costumes were adorable! even though this 5k was cold, the wdw 5k for dopey was even colder mainly because of the wind gusts! I was much more prepared this time with throw away jackets and pants and i took them off right as the wheelchair start was beginning.

  19. I hate the cold. It's hard to say the coldest I've done. It had to either be the first year Vegas RnR was at night or the LA Marathon with the cold wind whipping through the whole time. It's doubly disappointing when you have an outfit planned and you get weathered-out!

  20. Such cute outfits! It was a really cold Friday and Saturday for sure! I love that your mom ran with you this year. And Minnie's snowflake dress is so cute!

  21. LOVE your costumes, and I bet your right about using the "non-face" characters during the race. They look adorable in their little sweaters, haha. At this point, I feel like I'm just so used to running in frigid temperatures that I don't know what I'll do if and when it ever breaks 40 degrees again, haha.

  23. I was seriously getting cold here at home just watching the pics come in on social media that morning! Crazy cold!! But you all looked adorable (as usual) and I love the pictures!! Great post!
