The Summer Six

Visiting a camel farm was something new I did this summer!

As many people carried on with their summer vacations, I just couldn't.  I couldn't ignore the fact that we were  in a pandemic or the fact that there was a possibility of violence occurring at a moments notice in any given city ( or small town). Because of this, I chose to be cautious and stay close to home this summer. Which let's face it, if there was ever a time for me to stay close to home, it was this summer. The new puppies really absorbed most of my attention anyway and the fact that I didn't get to go on a vacation, really didn't seem that important.

So as I reflect back on what I really did do this summer, I am reminded that although the summer of 2020, wasn't fabulous, it was not time wasted.

My sister and I got to hike some amazing trails.

I enjoyed seeing my new puppies learn how to swim.

I enjoyed our longer than usual walks/runs, and walk and talks at the park.

I enjoyed time well spent with my Nana., at the beach, lunch dates, and seeing new scenery.

I enjoyed visiting new places that were off the beaten path but so close to home, like Pisgah Altar, the camel farm, and some scenic overlooks.

I enjoyed boating with my family and seeing the dogs enjoy the boat for the first time. I think they loved it.  It also made me happy seeing their little ears flap in the wind.

So I say good bye to Summer 2020. It wasn't the summer I had hoped for, not by far. I wanted to visit Disney, I wanted to go on a cruise, I wanted to get together with friends from other states.  In the end, it was low key and we made the best with what we had and ya know it, it turned out okay in the end.

What memories did you make this summer? -M

  1. It sounds like you made the most of a very strange summer! I really didn't do much this summer, but I did get to spend a lot more time outside than usual. It was nice to not have to commute to work every day and to get in stroller runs when it was light out and be able to go for a walk in the afternoon.

  2. It was a strange, different summer for sure! We did go up to Wisconsin a lot to the lake house. But there was no other traveling-- no trips to see Holly, no sister trip, no dining out, no races. I spent a lot of time outdoors, running on the trails.

  3. The summer of 2020 was one for the record books, no doubt. There were many other things I'd rather have been doing, but looking back, it really wasn't too awful. Keeping close to home is not a bad thing, and all of us stayed healthy and safe. Total win-win ;-)

  4. We also explored closer to home. I also explored neighborhoods that are close to home that I'd never run in before!

Dogs ears flapping in the wind is the best, right? Although I've never had a dog that liked water. :)

I do miss our planned for vacation, because it's been so loooooong since I've had a vacation -- and don't see that changing anytime soon. But as others have said, my family & I are healthy so far, knock on wood, and that's really the most important thing.

  5. It looks like you definitely made the most of your summer! I stayed close to home as traveling was the absolute last thing I wanted to do.

  6. We had a lot of nice local memories with friends in the parks and on the roofdecks. It wasn't bad being outside more.

  8. Looks like you were able to have a wonderful summer close to home. Loved those pics of your new puppies! I didn't know there is a camel farm nearby. That is so cool! I am going to have to look that one up. Maybe I can bring my grandkids sometime.
