Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort

Fairytales and Fitness Disney blog
The Grand Floridian has always been one of my favorite resorts. However, their quick service restaurant, Gasparilla Island Grill has never been a favorite. In fact, it was one of my least favorites.

Gasparilla Island Grill is located on the lower level of the main building ( where  the lobby and check-in is), but you can't necessarily access it from there. You need to walk outside and around to the marina side of the building.

Gasparilla's serves breakfast,  lunch, dinner, and snacks and you can mobile order here as well.

I've found that the quick service restaurants at the moderate and value resorts are pretty much all set up the same, but each deluxe resort set up is a little different. They seem to be a bit smaller, which makes sense, since this is not the only dining option here ( which might be the case at a value or moderate resort).

Okay, so what does Gasparilla's offer as far as food?

You will find the typical breakfast items here that you will find at any Disney resort, like Mickey waffles and breakfast platters, nothing overly exciting.

You can also get breakfast sandwiches or lighter items like parfaits or overnight oats. That last time I had breakfast here, I ordered a side of potato barrels to go while, I waited in the lobby for our Disney cruise ambassador to meet us.

I've mostly just eaten lunch here.

On one of my recent visits for lunch I had a grilled chicken sandwich with fries. I was not real pleased with this meal. The chicken sandwich was not flavorful and the fries were not only cool ( not completely cold), most of them were hard. Definitely not the type of quick service meal I expected from a deluxe resort like this one.

I did try to redeem my meal with a dessert. I chose this Cheshire cat parfait. This was a berry mousse and it was very tasty. It was then that I learned that maybe this was the place for desserts instead.

Now each time I return to the Grand Floridian, I stop by the dessert case at Gasparilla's to see what is new.

Don't these tarts look yummy?  I love pistachio, so I really wish I would have tried that pistachio -berry mousse!

This past  summer we stayed at the Grand Floridian again. This time we planned to order lunch from the pool bar, but unfortunately the kitchen was out of service at that time. We decided to go back to Gasparilla's.  The menu had changed since last time I was here and my sister and I both saw a few things we would like.
Caprese sandwich on ciabatta bread

We both ordered the Caprese sandwich. Other options included several protein bowls, salads, burgers, and other sandwiches ( chicken club, turkey, pulled pork, roast beef), and a variety of flatbreads).

There is a full indoor dining room here. Like all quick service locations, it tends to fill up at breakfast time, but the lunch crowd is more sporadic. The times we were there for lunch there was never a crowd.

There is some seating outside as well. This area over looks the marina and this is where you want to be to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks at night!
