Codes you never want to hear on your cruise!

 

Summer is officially upon us and we are preparing to go on another cruise!  We do have a bit of time before we embark, so we've been working on organizing and sharing all our memories from our previous Disney cruise . You can find all our Disney Cruise posts HERE on our Disney Cruise page. 

If you are also planning on a cruise, you may be interested to know some of the cruise  "lingo" that you might here. These are all codes that you might hear over the loud speaker or maybe just overhear through a walkie talkie or other device a cast member (or employee) might have. 

These codes are pretty severe, so hopefully you will never end up hearing any of these on  your sailing!

NOTE: Many codes are similar from cruise line to cruise line, but some may vary in what they mean.

Code Alpha-  Medical Emergency

Code V- Protein Spill ( vomit)

Code Bravo or Red Party- Possible Fire

Code Oscar or Mr. MOB - Man Overboard

Code Echo- Possible Collision, Drifting, or High Winds

Code Kilo- All crews report to emergency posts

Code Sierra- A stretcher is needed

Code Charlie- A Security Threat

Code Pink- A medical emergency for a child/infant

Code Bright Star or Rising Star - A death on board

Our friend Karen had actually heard "Code Bright Star" on one of her Disney Cruises and she shared this with us.

" I heard them call a Code Bright Star one time and when I later asked about it, they said it was because a passenger passed away. Come to find out, that family was in our Facebook group. They knew their family member had a heart condition and didn't have a lot of time left, so they went on one last family vacay and he passed away while they were at sea. They said Disney took such good care of them!"

Some codes that are specific to Disney Cruise Line are:

Code Winnie - There as been an accident in the pool

Code Mufasa- A child has been separated from their parent

While not exactly a code you might hear, I have always been curious what "Friends of Bill W" was referring to when I would see them on the activity guide we would get ( back before everything went digital).  I later found out that is was a meeting for AA ( alcoholics anonymous).  So if you ever see an activity called "Friends of ......" know that it is probably some sort of support group that is meeting on the ship.
