Weekly Wrap....May 21

This week went really fast, as I suspect the rest of the weeks will go from now till the end of the school year.

After being a little bummed last week because I wasn't able to reach my step goal as often as I liked, I went into this week very strong but then I fizzled out.  Here are some highlights!

Monday We had our photo shoot down at the park and then we did a loop around the island. I then came home and discovered a new 2 mile running route near my home! I had no problem getting  my steps in this day.
A fallen tree blocking the path.

Tuesday I went back to the island by myself  and was sad to see all the destruction from the storm earlier this month.  Got my goal steps in this day too.

Wednesday is where it started to go down hill. I did not run or walk but I did start to shave Baylee girl in preparation for her first swim.  Then Scott and I took a friend out to dinner (it was a buffet) so I felt miserable afterwards.

Thursday was Baylee's first swim of the season (sorry no photo) but I was taking video of her using her new raft! At this point though she was just excited to get swimming, she didn't want to be laying on a raft. By mid summer she'll be lounging and I won't be able to get her off!  I did hit my step goal this day.

Friday I got Runner mail from Wendy. Runner friends really are the best. They just get you! Thanks again Wendy!

Saturday was such a waste of day for me. Scott was away this weekend so Baylee and I slept in pretty late. Most of the day was spent playing with my new phone and talking to a friend for a very long time!

It wasn't till after 6:00 pm that Baylee and I decided to hit the fitness trail before heading to Wendy's for a Cranberry/Apple Chicken Salad and an organic Green Tea.

Now speaking of phones, I decided that now was a good time for me to get a new phone. I know my friends were probably sick of me asking them questions about their phones...lol.  As you may know, I am a huge fan of Blackberry. I'm on my 4th one! I HATE to get rid of it. It is the perfect size (fits right in my running pouch and my pockets), has a great camera, has an SD card (which many don't have), it's just SO easy to use AND I can blog on it (no app required).  The downfall is that some of the keys are starting to stick and one of my favorite apps (IG) does not work properly. Is this worth upgrading? I don't know, but I did.  I ended up getting the iphone because of its small size.  I did do a lot of research so I didn't go into this blindly, but you never know what something is really going to be like until you start using it for YOUR needs.   Now, I know that everything takes time to get use to but here are some things that I'm disappointed in so far.

-No LED notification for texts and emails

-No removable SD card (I knew this going in and was willing to compromise but not sure I want to anymore)

- I don't like all the clicking and screens that stay open. I like swiping up and swiping down to open and close screens.

-I can not blog from my phone anymore. This is HUGE and may be a deal breaker for me. Blogger no longer offers the Blogger app for iphone and I can't even blog from the Blogger home page (with no app) because it does not allow me to insert photos from my phone. There is an option to do so, but it does not work on iphone. I guess people use the "cloud" and Google pics but I'm not comfortable having all the pictures I take go directly to who knows where.

So now I spent all weekend doing more research on phones. My ideal phone would be less than 5.5 inches, be Android based, have an SD card and decent camera and now here's the downside, it has to be able to work on the Verizon network.  I've found a few that fit this description but they are not available for Verizon or they are not available in the USA.  There is a new Galaxy that came out this spring that fits the bill  as well as a NEW BLACKBERRY but right now neither are available in the USA, bummer!

I though the iphone would be a step up from my Blackberry but as it turns out, I think Blackberry was ahead of its time (Yes, I'll keep telling myself that).  As of right now, I'm using both phones.

Do you have my ideal phone or is it just a Unicorn out there somewhere? M

  1. great job on getting your steps in on most of the days! :-) I have had my I-phone so long I think I am just used to it and it's quirks. I think everyone's hubby was out of town this weekend- did they all meet somewhere and we did not get invited? LOL! Our lab loved to swim too- they are fun to watch in the pool, they love to play! Have a great Sunday!

  2. Great job at the beginning of the week with your steps. I went from Blackberry to Android and now I have an iPhone. I worked for Verizon tech support and from that point I will tell you that Apple is the easiest and least problematic device out there (in my opinion). I use Blogo for my Mac, iPhone and iPad and love it. I do pay for the premium service but it's totally worth it to me. I will say that I use to LOVE my blackberry so I understand how you feel.

    1. Blackberry is now Android (if you can find one). What services does the premium blogo offer?

  3. My son loves his Samsung Galaxy. I don't know if he can blog from it, since he's not a blogger. It takes great pictures--better than the iPhone. I have an iPhone and I'm sticking with it.

Glad you got the watch. Let me know how it's working!

  4. I have had an iPhone for a long time so its what Im used to. Rob has an android and I find it confusing and awkward, but its probably just because its different. I had a Blackberry a while ago (like 2008) so I barely even remember what that was like!

    1. I had a BlackBerry in 2008 too and loved it so much that I kept getting them. They've come along way since then!

  6. I have an Iphone, and have slowly gotten used to it. I still don't use all the bells and whistles, though. I'm a total tech moron, though, so if I can figure out the Iphone, anyone ought be able to LOL

  7. I love seeing photos of Baylee, she is such a pretty girl with such a lovely smile!

I have a Samsung Galaxy and have had Samsungs for a while and like them. I can blog using the app and upload photos to the blog as well.

    1. That sounds like a great phone! My husband has a galaxy that I do like but it's larger than I would like.

  8. I am not a power user. I don't work, so I just really don't need a lot of bells & whistles & not having an expensive phone is just one way I am able to not work (definitely just part of the puzzle).

So I have a Tracfone. Pretty sure that's not what you're looking for. I also have an Ipod Touch -- I got one before I got a smartphone, and I actually often carry both. I call the Ipod the hard drive for my phone.

  9. Congrats on getting in your steps on most days! Baylee is so cute!

I have an iPhone SE and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Before that I had an iPhone 5S and it's pretty much the same so i didn't have to learn too many new features.

    1. The one thing that is annoying is that there is no light that notifies me of messages. I have my phone on silent while at work so I always depended on that light!

  10. This was so funny to read! My husband loved his Blackberry and go so much s$%t for it! I am still fighting the good fight against getting a smart phone at all and have a super old phone your kids would laugh at! I am contemplating a Samsung or iPhone though myself but I am leaning to iPhone because it plays well with others...that is other iPhones!

    1. You can certainly air drop things to other iphones and devices and you have a ton of emojis (some that only show up on other iphones),but other than that not sure how else it plays nice. Would e interested to learn though before I make my final decision.

  11. So sorry about the phone! I am an iPhone user and always have been but I can understand the frustration if you're used to doing things a certain way (especially blogging from your phone...I've never been able to do that)! Glad you had a good rest of the week! :)

    1. Thanks Karen. I guess if bloging from my phone was never an option than it wouldn't be a big deal. Also the LED notification is a huge deal for me.

  12. Sorry to hear about your phone issues. It must be hard after having a Blackberry for so long! I prefer the iPhone which I use for personal use but I do use an Android phone for work.

  13. How frustrating that your iphone doesn't fit the bill! My phone recently did an update and now I HATE IT. It's just a systems update but I am so sad. I miss the old way my phone was.

I hope you find your unicorn!!

    1. Haha, I went through that too when my phone did a system update and I was like WTH? It was for the better and now I don't even now what those updates where! What kind of updates happened that make you so frustrated?

  16. I am cracking up at Baylee on a raft - I really didn't know that dogs liked things like that!

I have an iPhone and love it, although you are right - you can't blog on it. But I do like how easy everything else is to work on the phone (I'm on my second one - started with a 4, now on a 6), so I just blog on my desktop. Hope you figure out a solution to your phone issue...nothing worse than being frustrated with technology!

  17. I've had iPhone since I upgraded in 2012 from my flip phone. I'm slow in joining "modern times", and even then I waiver between Apple and Samsung when I get a new one. I've had this one for two years, and have already gotten emails about upgrading again.

  18. I'm sorry your new phone is not working out for you! that's a shame!

I have an iphone and have had it since 2010... I would not know how to operate other phones. I upload my pictures to Google photos, they are all private, so nobody an access them but me. This makes blogging so much easier (from a
    computer)

I hope you find a phone that works for you!

  19. I have an iphone... the last time I needed to change I tried to switch to an andriod phone and I HATED IT. I ended up taking it back and going back to the iphone. I think we end up just liking what we are used to. Hope you work it out!

  20. I had a blackberry too and I did like the led notifications. I have a Samsung S7 after I was forced to give up my beloved Note 7 and it had an SD card. My new one doesn't either! :( I tell ya with what you are saying I think it would be a deal breaker for me! I swapped from the iphone years ago and once I had a droid I never ever looked back! If you could get by maybe they will release that new phone soon!

    1. Yea, I thought the iphone would be an upgrade from what I had but it's not. I didn't realize I had so many features on the blackberry that other phones do not.

  21. Can't wait for a picture of Baylee on her raft this summer! I also recently got an iPhone because it was the smallest size I could find. I hate it!!! I've gotten a little more used to it now, but I swear that the only reason people love iPhones so much are because they never used another phone and seen how much better they are! No advice, just emphathy!

    1. I'm sure I'll be posting many pics of her swimming and on the raft this summer. I'm getting use to the iphone but I am finding that it just does not suit my needs.

  23. I really want to see Baylee on the raft! I've had an iPhone for ages. I don't want to upgrade b/c the new phones are bigger.

  24. don't be too hard on yourself regarding your steps. could also be that you needed some rest too, you know?

and I do hear you on the phone thing. I thought I was the last woman standing with my blackberry several years ago, but apparently I wasn't ;) I moved to an Android, but got annoyed after 2 years with a Sony Xperia that it just didn't work as well as it did "new". Then I got an iPhone. and I swore I'd *NEVER* do that. It took a wee bit getting used to, but I'm much happier with the iPhone than I ever was with Android. It's really personal though. I don't blog from my phone, but I'm thinking there must be some sort of app for that??? My first iPhone didn't start to break down on my until after almost 4 years! Then I dropped it and totally smashed the screen. So I got the exact same phone...

  25. I used to love Blackberry back in the day...honestly, I didn't know they were still on the market! I have an iPhone for work and I still haven't gotten used to it...my personal phone is the Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and I LOVE it!

    1. Funny how so many people say they loved their blackberry, makes me wonder why they all got rid of them. Newer isn't always better!

  26. Omg! I had THE hardest time leaving my Blackberry behind. I really really loved it ...so much so that I called it my 'crackberry' lol

It took me quite a while to get used to not having one, I just loved the platform. I could not ever get used to the iphone. I'm now a android user on my 4th Samsung Galaxy. It was much easier to adjust to than the iphone. Good luck!
