A Perfect Day at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Fairytales and Fitness Disney Blog

Hollywood Studios has never been a full day park for us. I think that's because I don't like thrill rides so that means we don't spend time waiting in the long lines for Tower of Terror and the roller coasters. We recently visited Hollywood Studios for a half day and here is how we made the most of our time here.

We got here at park open and headed right to Toy Story land.

Most people would head right to Slinky Dog Dash, but not us. We skipped this one and personally I don't care to ever ride this again.  I've found this ride to be too "bumpy" and "jerky". Not a pleasant ride for a roller-coaster.

We headed right to Toy Story Mania. We were excited that this ride did not have a long line.
Disney Tip: This line is often 75 minutes or more, so riding it first thing at park open is the best idea.  However, just when we were close to getting on, there were some technical difficulties with one of the tracks, so we all got re-routed to a different line to wait in.
This ride is so much fun and is actually one of the longer rides, so even if you do have to wait in line, it feels worth it. You do need to wear 3D glasses because you will be passing screens that have arcade games on them. You play the arcade games and earn points.

We then made our way to another favorite attraction, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway! I think this attraction opened a little later than normal because we walked right on to this one.

This is another ride where the lines tend to be VERY long. We just got lucky in our timing here. The ride itself is a pretty decent length, so again it may be worth the wait.

Disney Tip: Did you know that Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is the only ride at Disney World that features Mickey, Minnie, and their friends?  ( That fact is true at the time of this blog post).

After the exciting railway ride, we walked over to the Star Wars Launch Bay to meet Chewbacca. There are several Star Wars Character lines you can get in at the Launch Bay.

Disney Tip: If you have a Disney Visa,  There is a special Character line for you.  This day it was Darth Vader. We had seen Darth Vader on our last visit, so we didn't bother to wait in his line.

After meeting the Wookie, we were inspired to go to Backlot Express and order a Wookie Cookie. The Backlot Express is a quick service restaurant that mimics a studio back lot. Back lot Express has sandwiches, salads, and specialty beverages. It's a perfect place to get out of the heat and grab a bite to eat. You can see the full menu HERE.

We were not quite ready for lunch yet, so the only thing we ordered was the Wookie Cookie.  This is a highly talked about treat in the Disney circles! It is two oatmeal cookies with vanilla cream filling. The chocolate piece on top is suppose to resemble Chewbacca's sash. I normally enjoy an oatmeal cream cookie, so I had actually put this treat on my list to try. It is good. It was sweet but the icing was not that sickening sweet stuff that you often get in a cookie. It enjoyed it but it was WAY too much cookie for us to eat.
Disney Tip- This cookie is actually large enough to share and because it is sweet, you may not want to eat it all yourself anyway. If you are by yourself, perhaps ask for a small bag to wrap it in so you can save some of it for later.  The Wookie Cookie is $6.99.

It was time for us to take a little break, so we headed into the Frozen Sing Along show.  This was actually a cute show for kids and adults both.  We appreciated the music and the air conditioning. The show last about a half hour.

As we walked past Pixar Plaza, we noticed some characters were out, so we decided to stay for a visit.

We had to tell Mrs. incredible all about our "Incredible" themed room we were staying in at Disney's Contemporary Resort!

And we had a little fun with our favorite monster Sully.

Looks like Sully was having a little too much fun!

We decided we would grab a little lunch here before heading out for the day. We went to Sunset Ranch Market on Sunset Blvd because there are several quick service stands here.

Rosie's All American Cafe sells cheeseburgers, fries, and salads.
You can also get a hot dog and chicken nuggets here.

I ordered the Rosie's All American Salad.

At Fairfax Fare you can get Waffle bowls filled with chicken, beef, pork, or noodles.

Lacey ordered one of the noodle bowls.

On the way out of the park we spotted Chip and Dale, so had to get a photo with them.

We also walked past the Chinese Theater one more time to take notice of all the celebrity hand prints.

They had Disney celebrities and then celebrities of the human type.
Some of these were were really old!

That was the last thing we did at Hollywood Studios before we called it a day!   I think we used our time wisely. We got there at park opening and left at 1:00pm. We got in two rides, had a snack, saw a show, had lunch, and met five characters.  Not bad for only being there for 4 hours.

Check out some other things we did on previous visits to Hollywood Studios.
