The rainy day Disney tip you might not know

Fairytales and Fitness Disney Blog

I'm sure you've read every blog post about how to prepare for a rainy day at Disney. This post is not going to tell you to always pack your umbrella or to make sure you bring a poncho from home so you don't have to pay for an overpriced one at the gift shop, nope!

Okay, now that you have your umbrella and are prepared for the rain, here are our tips.

1. First of all, don't be afraid to go to a park during the rain. There is no need to make a rainy day your "resort day". If you are at a park and it is raining, I guarantee it will be memorable for you. We have so many memories from rainy days at the parks. So much so that I remember what we did during the rain and not much else from that park day.

Here's a tip many people don't know.

2. We all know that outdoor attractions will close during rain or threat of lightning. In this instance, you may race to the nearest indoor attraction, like maybe Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Well, something you might not have known is that not all indoor attractions are operating during a storm.

We learned this straight from a cast member.  We thought it was odd that Space Ranger Spin would close, since it was entirely an inside attraction. We were told that some indoor attractions close because when guests get off the ride, they tend to wait in the gift shop/unloading space. If the ride continues to take guests on the ride and they all end up in the unloading space ( and none of the other guests are leaving) you can imagine there will be quite the crowd waiting out the storm.  We learned this one first hand at last year's MNSSHP.

3. If it does rain during your park day and you do have the option to choose which park you can go to that day, do yourself a favor and choose a park other than Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom has the most outdoor attractions that have the potential to temporarily close during a storm.

We know rain can really inconvenience your time at Disney. It can derail your plans for rides, cancel fireworks  and shows, and postpone or cancel outdoor recreation. We had to postpone our golf game last summer at Disney's Oak Trail golf course  ( you can check out that posts HERE).  Obviously we can't control the weather, but we can control how we deal with it. You're at Disney, continue to have fun and make the most of it.
Maybe do some of these things that you wouldn't normally take the time to do:

1. Check out the merchandise at a gift shop you don't usually go to .
2.  Try a new snack.
3. Go to a gift shop and try on clothes
4. Take fun pictures in the rain.

Have you ever been in one of the parks when it started raining?  What is your favorite rainy day activity at Disney?

Till next time! ~ M & L
