Recently I received an email that my gym was having a training to become a Body Flow Instructor. Like I said I do not like yoga, but this was Les Mills and there is not a bad program they offer. Call me bias, because I already teach two of their programs (RPM and Body Pump) but I do find their criteria and standards a bit higher than other classes that I have taken that are not Les Mills.
I thought if I was going to get certified in it I better take the class first. The sign up for this is coming up soon and I knew I was heading out of town so I wanted to try it out before I left. So I decided I would take one after my RPM class. The only thing was that this particular class wasn’t for another hour and 45 minutes later after my class ended and I didn’t want to leave the gym and come back, so I decided to take another yoga class before that one. Well let me tell you, I should have just left and came back.
Right from the start the Instructor was very friendly and talking to the members saying what she had planned for us today. As soon as the class began I knew it was going to be good. One thing that Les Mills offers is great music. Each program has a format they follow with each release which you must perform, so it is not as free flowing as other classes, but it makes it structured which is a good thing I think. And the Instructor did the whole class with us. The class was not like your typical yoga class, but that’s why I enjoyed it. I still am not sure if I will go through the training or not but either way, I am going to continue to take that class.
When I arrived home I realized I didn’t have my Ipod in my bag, so I called the gym to see if it was there. Sure enough it was, and I needed it for another class the following morning at a different gym so had to go back and get it that night. Since I had to make a special trip back, I thought I would make it worth while and at least take another class. I ended up taking CX works (another Les Mills program) and that is a killer core workout and even better, only 30 minutes. ~L
What type of yoga classes have you taken?
Do you find some better than others?
Do you find Les Mills workouts challenging?
Hold up! You don't like yoga? I never knew that....well, maybe Body Flow is the gateway drug....
ReplyDeleteNo I don't. I do not find it calming. I have a hard time sitting still breathing in and out.
DeleteI know what you mean about yoga, for the longest time I felt like it was a waist of time. But sometimes you need to slow down and that can be a work out too. I hope that makes sense. I feel like it is not only until we slow down that we can really hear our body and what it needs.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you are saying. I liked the body flow but will have to try the other yoga out again.
Deletehave you ever tried hot yoga? I love it in the colder months and find it a great compliment to running.
ReplyDeleteYes I have, and I actually did like that one, because it made you sweat, which made me feel like I was getting a good workout in. I tried that last spring and haven't done it all summer because of the heat, but may try it again now that it is getting cooler out.
DeleteI've never ever tried a Les Mills class! I've never been at a gym that offered them, but I know they are hella popular. I would be interested to try this!
ReplyDeleteAll their programs they offer are great!
DeleteHow weird about the instructor in that first class not doing the moves. I don't think I've ever seen a class go like that before. I've only tried Body Flow once and didn't love it but think I have to give it another try. I might just have been thrown off because I was expecting it to be more like yoga and I may enjoy it more this time now that I know what to expect!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the body flow alot more than the yoga. Maybe bc the instructor did do the moves w us.
DeleteI did like the hot yoga. I'd like to try some more classes like that.
ReplyDeleteThat's annoying that the instructor didn't do any of the moves with the class. If you were a newbie to yoga, you'd have to rely upon all the students around you to know what you were doing. That's not cool! What's the point of having an instructor if all they are going to do is talk, right?
ReplyDeleteI have never done a Les Mills class, but have done some yoga. I like yoga, but do not (yet) love it. I do feel great when I'm done, though. I have a tough time clearing my head and being "in the moment." I struggle with my breathing....I just cannot get that smooth, even breathing that (I think) we're supposed to have.
ReplyDeleteI struggle with yoga unless it's "yoga for runners," which means that it moves a lot faster than normal yoga and expects that you're not as stretchy as regular yogis :) I feel really ignorant right now, but I don't even know what Les Mills is ... but then I don't belong to any gyms and haven't since college ....
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of yoga but, it does have many benefits. I did hire a yoga guru to teach the art to my twins.
ReplyDeleteI still do some small circuits that I usually take from SparkPeople and research on YouTube.
I love Body Flow! I do like yoga, but I really like how Body Flow has "tracks' like the other Les Mills classes. I like the music and it feels like it goes by faster than regular yoga. Glad you found your iPod- lots of workout classes for you that day! I really like CX worx as well.
ReplyDeleteIs Body Flow the same as Body Balance? I've done the BB class and although I liked it I prefer my Pilates class as I always feel like I've done a workout after Pilates. I never really break into a sweat but I can feel all my muscles have been worked hard!
ReplyDeleteLes Mills classes are pretty awesome! I used to do them, but haven't recently as I workout from home.
ReplyDeleteI've never ever tried a Les Mills class! but I've attended yoga classes which I loved very much I'll never forget my first yoga class it was really fun and I learned a lot from it and now I'm teaching yoga to my friends and to my family.
ReplyDeleteI can't live a day without yoga. Yoga helps you feel better and be in harmony with your body! I would like to go to India for an official certificate. Thx for sharing!
