Stride Box vs Runner Box and other subscriptions

If you have been a frequent follower on our blog you may have remembered us talking about the Stridebox which is a monthly subscription box that is all products for runners. At the time when I was receiving Stridebox, I had not heard of any other subscription like that. Since then, I have learned that there are many boxes out there that are similar.  One of them is the Runnerbox. In addition to Runnerbox, they also offer a Cyclebox and TriBox

Many of you may have heard about this box but since I had been getting the Stridebox I was anxious to compare the different between the two boxes. Unlike many subscription boxes, Runnerbox was offering a one time limited edition holiday gift box at a discounted rate with free shipping. I really liked that you could do a one time purchase and not have a monthly subscription that you had to remember to cancel.

Though you received a few more items in the Runnerbox, their products were very similar to the Stridebox such as GU and a Honey Stinger. A few were different like sportswear detergent and Primal mud.

I liked that the Stridebox came with a description of all the products in the box, and most came with a discount code to use if you wanted to buy more of a product that you may have liked.

In the Runnerbox there were only two description cards. One was for the high performance laundry detergent with a 10% discount code and the other explained how Primal Sport Mud works(no discount code). Use Primal Sport Mud before or after training to help ease any soreness.  Put on affected area and cover with a towel and place heating pad on it for 15 minutes. Ever hear of it? I haven't tried it yet, but have heard it does work.

So my final thoughts.
Pros-
- Runnerbox and Stridebox both have similar products.
- Runerbox gives you more products to try in their box, therefore more variety.
-You do not have to do a monthly subscription if you want to purchase one as a gift.

Cons-
-Not as many discount codes as Stridebox offers.
-More expensive monthly.
-Though some products are self explanatory, I like that Stridebox gave you a list and description of each product in the box and where to find it at if you want to order more. Runnerbox did not.
-Even with the discount I received, it was still more expensive than the Stridebox.

My opinions are based on several months of getting Stridebox and only one month of receiving Runnerbox.  -L

Have you ever tried Runnerbox? What are your thoughts? Do you subscribe to any other subscription box?

    1. I think this mth was just a so so one. I was hoping it was a good one since it was a holiday limited edition. I have heard great things about that mud. Will have to try it out.

  2. Thanks for the pros and cons. I guess you get what you pay for with both of them. What's the price difference between the two?

    1. The Stridebox is $15 a mth and the Runnerbox is 24.95 a mth. The one time purchase was 29.99. But I got that one on sale.

  3. I've never tried either. They both sound interesting, but I like the idea of explanations and discounts. You are much more likely to buy what you tried.

Want to co-host in 2015? Let me know!

    1. Yes I agree. I like to know where I can purchase the item if I like it.

    2. I was considering changing over from Runnerbox to Stridebox and just came along this thread. All my Runnerboxes have come with a detailed content card with really great discounts. I wonder if only the subscription boxes come with this?

  4. I like the idea that you don't have to do a monthly subscription. It would make me more likely to give it a try one time to see how it is! I am intrigued by both products though:)

    1. Yeah I like that that is an option. However that option is more expensive than the monthly one.

  5. That's weird that your Runner box didn't have a list/description of the contents, maybe that was just with the holiday one? I have gotten several runner boxes and they have all had a list in them. Deborah is right, some months have been iffy, where I thought about stopping it, and other months I love it. It's only every two months though, so it's a fun treat. :)

    1. Oh every two months? I guess I didn't take notice to that. It is fun getting things in the mail like that.

  6. I just started getting the runnerbox (well really the tribox) a few months and have gotten a couple boxes. The first one was OK, but the last one I got was awesome. I do think that I got a listing in mine, but I can't remember for sure. While I like the food samples, what I really enjoy is the non food items that they send. This last box had a shoe lace charm, a motivational bracelet (though you had to purchase your motivational quote for a discount), and half off one of those time bracelets that will tell you how fast to run each mile to get a certain time (can't for the life of me remember the name).

    1. Wow! Sounds like you got some cool things in your boxes. I was hoping that this holiday limited edition was a bit special. But didn't seem like it.

  7. I never tried either but I love seeing what others think before I commit. I've stuck with Nature Box for awhile now. Yummy stuff.

  8. Thanks for the review. I've never tried either but would like to. I probably wouldn't be able to eat the food items, though. Wonder if there's a subscription box without the food items.

    1. I didn't see any that didn't offer food in them. That probably wouldn't be a good purchase for you. Although they do have some things that are non food related in the box. But you don't know what you will get until it comes.

  10. I've used StrideBox and even wrote a review on it. It was good for a couple of months but I didn't use half the stuff in it so cancelled it in the end. I did find a couple of products I liked and purchased separately. I am a NatureBox subscriber and absolutely, positively LOVE IT!

    1. I enjoyed Stridebox for a few months as well. Then it started having the same things in it so I ended up canceling it. I gotta try this Nature Box people are talking about.

  12. I used to have a Stride Box and a Kona Case subscription. I wound up cancelling both because I felt like I wasn't using or interested in all of the products in the box, but I did discover some really great items thanks to those boxes.

  14. They both seem cool, but I am not a gel person and it seems like lots of times the have gels in them.

    1. I think the only gel I got in this one was one GU. I don't mind the gels it's the protein powders that I don't like that seem to be in most boxes.

  15. I've never tried either of these. I think it would be a fun way to try new products for a couple of months!

  16. I currently don't subscribe to either but my sister gets Stridebox and is now pregnant (and not running) so she's been giving them to me! I love them so far :)

  17. I do Birchbox and Stitchfix (and citruslane for Ash) and have contemplated a runners box, but they seem to always have a lot of gels and I am picky about my fuel so I never went with one. I am not really critical with beauty products but I think I would be with one of these boxes, but maybe I should at least give it one try? Thanks for the review, it was helpful!

    1. It was neat trying out the products. You can cancel at anytime. Or buy the one time only box(which is a bit more expensive though). I am not too picky with my fuel. I am picky w my beauty products since I have very sensitive skin.

  18. I haven't tried either of these. But I have tried Bestowed many times. I do like them, but I'll be honest I have only paid for them a couple of times and those times I got them free except for shipping.
I love all the new products they are kind of fun. But I am not really a supplement person, and I rarely get into all the different health products out there (for expensive reasons) so I'm not really one that subscribes to them.
But for someone who does like those things, and who uses them often I think these boxes are a great way for them to try different things!
On a side note, their were a couple of products that I have gotten in my Bestowed boxes that I ended up loving and I buy them quite often now. A pink lemonade drink by Eboost being one of them. I don't know why, but I love that stuff and the fact that its practically calorie free:)

  19. I've never done any type of subscription box. I'm always afraid I'd end up throwing most of the the stuff out.

    1. I feel like it's a hit or miss. Some of the products I really like and others are still sitting in the box.

  20. I'm not a fan of subscription boxes although I did try runnerbox last year for their holiday box. It was fun getting something like that in the mail, but honestly, the only thing that I really liked was a neck warmer and for $20 it did not seem worth it. I have tried alot of gels and nutrition products and seem to know what works best for me.

  21. I think the discount codes for the monthly subscription boxes are key! Sounds like sticking with Stridebox is the way to go.
