Hi There,
Besides Co- Authoring this blog, I also author my own Fashion Column in a newspaper. It's called Fashionably Fit.
A few weeks I was sent a box of clothing and accessories from a company called Stitch Fix. If you have been reading blogs for more than a few months, I am sure you are familiar with the company because several bloggers have shared their goodies. My column that week was about subscription clothing companies so I used Stitch Fix as my inspiration. I would share the link to my column but the newspaper has just switched to an online subscription basis so unless you are a subscriber, the only thing you will see is the title and the first sentence, not very exciting.
So instead, I'm going to show you a video. I am opening up my Stitch Fix for the very first time. You are seeing my honest to goodness reaction to the items I've received. And don't worry, if you don't understand the concept behind Stitch Fix, I'll explain it in the video. Enjoy!
MY STITCH FIX REVEAL
Here is the gold necklace I mentioned in the video. And those pink jeans, well lets just say they made my legs look like sausage links! Not a good look for me. I forgot to mention in the video that there is a $20 styling fee for the Stitch Fix box. This $20 would go towards any one item in the box. My styling fee was waived compliments of Stitch Fix. Just in case you are interested, here is the break down of the actual cost of the items.
Necklace: $48
Shirt 1: $48
Shirt 2: $58
Skirt : $58
Pink Jeans $94
My personal opinion was that these items were priced higher than what I wanted to spend on items that I didn't actually love or get to pick out on my own. Maybe I'm just cheap? I wish my box would have included a dress. Than I may have been willing to may a little more for had I liked it.
So, how did I do for my first video? It's always a bit weird reading someone's words everyday and then actually getting to hear them speak. Do I sound like you thought I would? haha.
I actually made the video back in May, but it took me this long to figure out how to upload it to the blog. ( I know it should seem simple, but when you don't have a Google Plus account other computer programs don't want to play nice with you).
Have you ever signed up or subscription clothing?
Do you have any tips for doing video on the blog?
Which piece of clothing from my box could you see yourself wearing?
Thanks for watching. -M
Interesting idea, not likely I would try as I am a control freak, especially at those prices.
ReplyDeleteYea, I would debate on spending $48 on a shirt I really liked let alone one that I thought was just okay!
DeleteI think Stitch Fix sounds awesome and it would be something I would totally sign up for! I have a real issue with clothes and trying to find things I like so if I was open to more ideas I think this would help!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a nice surprise getting things that you didn't pick out. And it forces you to try styles you wouldn't normally pick.
DeleteI feel the same way about wanting to pick out my own clothes and make sure I really love them. My philosophy on clothes buying that I started with a couple years ago is quality over quantity. I want a smaller amount of pieces that I really love rather than a whole closet full that I stand in front of and say I have nothing to wear.
ReplyDeleteYea, I agree completely!
DeleteI have read about Stitch Fix, but it's not something I could do. Not only do I have to try things on because of my dimensions, but I'm incredibly picky about the fabric, the cut, everything.
ReplyDeleteI will say that it was all very good quality stuff and my sizing was right on, which surprised me.
DeleteYay, I have been waiting for your review of this. As you know, I have done it before (twice) and I have bought one thing from each box. I agree its a bit pricier than I would like, so I think I will only do it a few times a year. The two items I bought were things I wouldn't have picked on my own but I ended up REALLY loving them. I loved your video, it's great to "hear" what you really sound like :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope I don't sound too weird. I like the fact that it is a surprise, although I didn't know that you could get a list ahead of time that tells you what will be in your box. I've read that some people google the name of the items too see what they will be getting. That kind of ruins the surprise. It might be something I do one more time, maybe around the holidays, but not something I would do every month either.
DeleteI have read the "other blogs" about Stitch Fix, but have no interest in that type of subscription service. I like to pick out my own clothing and would probably hate everything!
ReplyDeleteI hate shopping for clothes. Scott buys me all of my clothes as gifts and he does a great job. I love not having to go shopping and then getting a bag of surprises!
DeleteI agree, those prices are way higher than what I would spend on clothes I picked out for myself, and they didn't seem too "romantic" or "traditional" the way I was expecting when you described the survey you filled out.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the video, but it was kind of dark, I think because of the bright window right behind you?
Haha, it's funny you mention that. I thought the necklace was "Romantic" style but the other stuff could have been anything.
DeleteGreat job with the video, Meranda! It's nice putting a voice to your words/face! :0) I'm not sure I would try a box like this - I do like to pick out my own clothing and I don't think you're cheap at all!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen! I'd like to do some other videos but I need to learn a little more about video editing!
Deleteaahh - you're so cute in your video. I always love 'seeing' people & hearing them in vlogs :)
ReplyDeleteI guess its a fun thing to get things you don't normally pick - you may find a new style. That was key on "What not to wear" :)
That necklace is adorable!!!
Thanks! That is very true! It does make you come out of your comfort zone!
DeleteI've heard of a lot of people using Stitch Fix, though I'm not sure it's something I'd be in to. With those prices, it's definitely not something I would do every month, but maybe I'll eventually give it a try, just to have the experience. I really like that necklace and enjoyed your comment that it looked like something Charlotte from Sex in the City would wear :)
ReplyDeleteI do believe Charlotte actually owned that necklace...lol
DeleteLoved the video! I cracked up when you took the skirt out and said it is something your nana would wear lol! As for the idea of Stitch Fix, I think it is great, but way overpriced. Those clothes do not look worth the retail prices they want for them. Guess I'm cheap too? Haha
ReplyDeleteYes, I could totally see my nana wearing that skirt with a pair of canvas Keds!
Deletei know lots of folks that use and love stitch fix but it's not the kind of service i'd take advantage of -- especially w/the prices!
ReplyDeleteI just got my first box and the prices were definitely higher than I would normally pay, but my stylist did a really good job and I ended up keeping everything as my birthday present to my self. Definitely not something I would do every month though. Maybe once a season .
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this, but can't afford it right now unfortunately!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I liked to be surprised, I think I would like to pick out my own clothing. Amy from @Will Run For Ice Cream http://mrsglassrunning.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI love getting surprises too, but for the price, I would want to make sure it was something I loved!

DeleteI completely agree with all of your thoughts on the clothes. Call me cheap, picky (okay, I'll admit I'm super picky about my clothes), whatever you want to call me, but I wasn't overly impressed by any of the items that they sent you. In theory, I like the idea of Stitch Fix, particularly since getting to the mall isn't easy and things usually look different in person than they do online. What I don't like though is that it seems both from your experience and from what I've heard from others that Stitch Fix doesn't choose the most budget conscious items, making it difficult for me to commit to purchasing a subscription.
ReplyDeleteYou looked and sounded great in the video! Loved seeing your first impressions and it was funny to see your hesitation as you tried to come up with something to say about the black shirt and the skirt. I think Stitch Fix prices are high - wonder if this service will be around in a year from now?
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the video, you sound like a pro:)
ReplyDeleteIf I was back to my skinner self, I probably would consider looking into a service like this, but for right now until I drop a few pounds, I don't think I would do it.
I didn't know you had a fashion column, that is pretty cool!
I think Stitch Fix is a fun idea, but from the various reviews I've seen recently I have not really cared for most of the items they have sent out. I also agree that the items seem really over priced, but then again I've been addicted to Zulily lately so . . . .
ReplyDeleteI have a hard enough time shopping for myself, I can't imagine letting someone else do it for me! Is there a subscription box of running clothes? Because I would totally be into that :)
ReplyDeleteGood job on the video- interesting idea but I don't think it would be anything I would ever try.
ReplyDeleteI tried a fitness version of this about a year ago, and liked what they sent. I don't think I could do everyday clothes though. On the video that shirt did look way too big for you!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Stitch Fix. The stylist always picked out amazing items for me... but I agree with you - everything was SO expensive. I usually bought one item out of the box, but even that was a stretch for me.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to be on the other side of the bed next time - that window in the back really doesn't do good to the video quality.
ReplyDeleteI've just ordered my Stitch Fix - will see what I get in July :) Thanks for sharing yours!
Yea, I realized that wasn't the best place to shoot a video. Can't wait to see what you get in your fix!
DeleteI've seen more and more of those subscription clothing deals. I've gotten so spoiled by being able to shop super discounts at Kohl's and I'm not particularly a fashionista, so I probably will skip them, but they are a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteSubscription boxes for clothes just seem like a hassle to me. KNowing my I wouldn't decide to keep anything (not at those prices) and I'd just haveta send it back. There are a few subscription boxes out there that I wouldn't mind...mainly food ones haha
