We arrived in plenty of time again so my friend could warm up while I stayed warm in the car. It started to drizzle so they were hoping to start the race a bit early before it started to really come down. We all lined up and it was a much bigger turn out then the other week I ran it.
When the race started, I was feeling pretty good. I could actually see a few people ahead of me so I knew there was no way of getting lost on this course again.
I passed a few runners the first mile, then I began to run with this kid. I thought I'd stay with him for awhile since he was keeping a good pace. I'd pull ahead, then he would pass me again. We continued to do this the rest of the race. I ended up passing him the last quarter of mile along with some other young kid. I could see one more runner( again that looked quite young) the last stretch of the race that I was determined to pass. It was neck and neck until the finish.
When we finished, he received 6th 21:17 and I received 7th place 21:18. I thought I had beat him, but really it didn't matter because I still received first female overall! My friend kept saying really? He was like 12. I guess he had a point. But I am so competitive....haha.
By the time we finished, it started to rain harder so we quickly did the awards.
Since I received first female overall I was second to chose out of the trunk. (Remember, this was the race series where we pick our prizes out of the back of an SUV). There were mostly snack food items, which was good since it was Superbowl Sunday. Rather than splurging on those, I chose another practical item.....Glad febreeze trash bags. Hey, everyone can use those. They were even the 140 count...haha. I figured if I bought those in the store, they would be much more than my $7 registration so it's a win! -L
Would you choose the trash bags or the snacks?
I would totally have tried to beat the kid, lol! Congrats on first overall female! I don't know if I would have picked the trash bags but it's not a bad prize...
ReplyDeleteSuch a unique racing series....but the practical prizes definitely are a nice change. I don't have a super competitive drive. I don't know if I'd be trying to beat the kid or not. I'd be afraid of his parents coming after me LOL Congrats on getting first overall female...that's a great finish time!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! You are on a roll! I have to admit that I would probably choose snacks. Or maybe not, weight in Winter is always an issue for me ...
ReplyDeleteI guess ultimately that kid helped you, right?
I would definitely have tried to beat the kid! And nice practical prize there!! Good stuff - congrats!
ReplyDeleteI’ve done the same. Try to beat a kid. Ha ha
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your win.
Trash bags all the way. More useful.
Way to go! Trash bags FTW. I'm not competitive per say but I love to buddy up with other racers (without them knowing) and then pass them.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on that first place overall female win! And that's pretty funny that trash bags were one of the available prizes :) But you're right, that's a pretty good value.
ReplyDeleteThose teenage boys can be so fast! Way to give him a run for his money. Ha ha on the trash bags but they are practical
ReplyDeleteWow! Congrats on first overall female AGAIN! I love it when I read about someone else being as competitive as I am. Way to challenge that young man. He was at LEAST 13! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! And I totally agree with your prize selection!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the first prize win! A $7 registration fee? I've never heard of such a thing!
ReplyDeleteTrash bags for the win, literally! Love this, love how good you are doing at these races!
