Running Role Models
This week's Tuesday's on the Run topic is Running Role models. When we think about running role models we don't think of the fastest runners, the Olympians, the winners of races, or the professional athletes. So you can run fast, so what! What really impresses us is the everyday ordinary runner. The runner who gets up before work while its still dark just to get a run in, the runner that has to juggle training with a full time job and a family, and the runner who is faced with obstacles or injuries but keeps pressing on!
Through our blogging journey, we have met (or read about) many of these people. It is YOU, our virtual friends that we are proud of.
We are proud of ALL of you that are getting out there and running even when you don't feel like it but we thought it might be fun to highlight two great role models. Here are each of our picks!
I have always been super impressed with Karen from Just me and my running shoes. Karen not only has a full time job as an oncology nurse (which is super impressive all on it's own), but is a wife, keeps a beautiful home, is involved in her church, volunteers for charity, has a successful blog and keeps to a pretty strict training/running schedule! She does it all! -M
Our friend, blog reader, and fellow runner Heather is the epitome of perseverance and dedication. Heather has had some pain and injury this year but kept pressing own. When she sets her mind to something she doesn't let anything hold her back. She ran her first marathon this year at Disney World after spending the night in the ER! Yea, she is tough. She not only runs but has done a few tri-athalons as well. She is always open to pushing her limits and trying new things. -L
" People that workout don't have anymore hours in the day then people who don't, they just make the time because it's important to them"
Who would your running role model be?

I too am more inspired by everyday runners than the elite. I can't relate to the elite! But I can relate to people like me, who just strive to be their absolute best!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I am inspired by everyday runners who I can relate to. Its awesome to see people overcome obstacles to achieve great things!
ReplyDeleteI agree! When I see someone over coming an obstacle it makes me believe I can do it to!
DeleteI love how you focused on every day runners. They're definitely the unsung heroes and people that I can relate to more! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteI love that quote! So true. My running hero are all the moms who still get out their and train for halfs and marathons. It's hard enough for me to do and I don't have tiny humans to take care of 24/7 on top of everything else.
ReplyDeleteYes, we are super impressed with all the moms out there that find the time to train and still do all their mom duties!
DeleteThe elites are fun to watch but I enjoy watching everyone who's out there running. We're out there for fun, for health, for stress release, me time, friend time.
ReplyDeleteI agree that my running heroes tend to be everyday people finding ways to make it work! I'm especially impressed with all the working moms out there who manage to still make time to run. That's got to be hard to find ways to fit it all in.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I don't know how some of these mom's do it all!
DeleteI think all of my fitness role models are bloggers that I have followed for a while. One in particular is Anna The Apple. She is awesome.
ReplyDeleteMost of my role models are also bloggers that I follow. I don't always find my role model to be elite or fast runners because I can't relate as much. I like to see people like me who sometimes struggle to get in their runs or are working at slowly increasing their pace. Seeing their progress motivates me.
ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE this!!! I am absolutely blown away by both Karen and Heather. How on earth did Heather run Disney after spending the night in the ER? Wow. Just WOW.
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to find inspiration in almost anyone! I too have found inspiration and role models from bloggers I follow as well as friends and family. It's amazing how everyone has a story if we are willing to listen, and that story may just inspire us to do greater things too.
ReplyDeleteSo many inspiring runners out there. I agree - while the fast runners are impressive, it's the people who make the running happen even though their lives are busy and it takes them longer to run the distance who truly inspire me.
ReplyDeleteAw, these are great. xo
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you so much! You have just made my day! And you are right, I look around to all my running buddies and say, if you can do it then I can too! You guys are awesome as well!!
ReplyDelete@heatherlas
You are very welcomed and thank you too!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I know one runner who I don't admire! <3
ReplyDeleteThat's a tough one to narrow down! So many role models, so little time...
ReplyDeleteWow, guys thanks so much for your kind words!! I'm incredibly honored and you completely just made my whole day!! ❤️
ReplyDeleteMy running heros are the women in my MRTT group! Many of them come from military families, and they are the ones out there pushing double strollers to get their runs in while their husbands are deployed. They are truly inspirational!
