I Love You Winter!

Summer will ALWAYS be my favorite season. In fact, the hotter the weather, the better!  There use to be a time when I absolutely hated winter. I hated being cold, but I think when I started running outdoors ( about 10 or 11 years ago), all that has changed.  I still don't like being cold, but I've learned to manage it a little better (and with some warmer clothes)!

1. I still get excited when I see snow flurries start to fall.  The white dusting on the trees and on our back patio, just makes for the most serene and peaceful sight. I love watching the snow fall from my kitchen & bedroom windows ( both overlook the back yard).

2. As the snow continues to fall heavier, there's always a chance that we might have a delayed start at school, or possibly no school at all. That is always something fun to look forward too! We've had several snow days off already this year. In fact, we have no snow days left and if we get any more snow, we will have to continue to teach and learn from home ( which I do not mind).  However, it also means that we have to go to school on Memorial day, which stinks. But that's okay, it's the last week of school, so knowing that summer is just around the corner will get us all through!

3. I may be the only one who says this, but I actually LIKE shoveling snow!

4. I love watching Sybie and Willow play in the snow! I thought they were summer dogs because of how much they love the swimming pool and boat, but turns out they LOVE the snow too! They are like little polar bears as they run around the yard. During one of our snow storms I actually built them a little snow obstacle course. I told Scott if we get another large snow, he should snow blow a maze for them in our yard. Chance are, we won't get that much more snow this season ( but I can only hope).

5. I love winter because I love wearing all the fleece! Fleece lined leggings are a staple in my winter wardrobe.

I know winter is coming every year, so why not just embrace it!  Winter is a stark reminder that I live in one of the most beautiful places in the country that actually gets to experience all four seasons!

To those of you that despise winter, I hope you can find something about it that brings you joy. If not, just remember that it's not going to last forever, it will be Spring, Summer, then Fall again before we know it!

Tell me something that you've enjoyed about winter.  -M

Ironically enough, after I wrote this post I noticed that I wrote a post several years ago about Winter as well. How funny it was to go down memory lane with that post.  Just for fun, you can check out that post HERE.  I actually think that one is a better blog post...haha

  1. I don't love winter, but there are things I love about winter! I do like the snow. I think if I lived somewhere south of here, I'd like winter better. It's just too long!

  2. Well, my favorite thing about winter right now is that we've made it all the way to February so it won't be around much longer! My favorite thing about this winter was that it was dry and we didn't have any storms for the first few weeks of January so I was able to run outside for a good long while.

I can tolerate winter more than I used to - but I just struggle with ice. I am so clumsy on it that I am alwasy so fearful to go out - & of course, I jsut dont like winter because of that sunlight... but snow - it is pretty... & then it needs to go away :) LOL

    1. Yes, ice is no fun. And snow can be pretty yucky when it gets in that melting slushy stage.

  5. I struggle with the lack of sunlight but I really do love the snow. And I'm with you on shoveling. I enjoy it too! Haha! Because our district started e-learning a couple of years ago, there are no longer any snow days. I used to LOVE them as a kid!

    1. I think schools should have at least one snow day per year and then it's okay to do virtual!

  6. Winter really is a beautiful time of year, I just wish it wasn't so cold for so long. I don't love shoveling, but I don't mind doing it once in awhile. The past two weeks, though, we've had too much snow LOL And, it's been the wet, heavy stuff that sticks to the shovel.

    1. It will be spring before we know it and we will easily forget how cold it was!

  7. I don’t mind winter and I do love snow — probably because we don’t get very much.

  8. I do try to embrace Winter as much as possible, but if you've ever lived way up north -- you'd realize that shoveling can get old. Cold & gray can get old. I do my best, but Winter will never, ever be my jam.

Really, I think most of it comes down to the grayness. I struggle with that a great deal and it really saps my energy -- I still get outside almost every day, but Winter for me is like a dark tunnel. And I supplement with Vitamin D (which I'm fairly low in) and I use light therapy.

Which is why we discuss moving south again in a few years. :)

  9. I can't say I love winter but I do love running in the colder air - I'll take it over summer running any day! The gray days can be hard - I miss the sunshine. The snow makes everything prettier :)

  11. I needed to read this today. I usually have an optimistic outlook of winter and today I needed to be reminded of that. I agree that it looks so beautiful and fresh. Also, isn't it funny how pets can just lean into whatever season it is. They just seem to make the most of everything.
