There may be Halloween candy on the store shelves, but summer is not quite over yet!
I do feel like summer it is the fastest season that goes by and I am not even a teacher ( or a student). Since the topic is summer running goals left to check off it got me thinking did I even have any summer running goals?
In the beginning of the summer I did not set out to make any goals. With my new job and unpredictable schedule there was no way in committing to future races. However, my schedule didn’t become as hectic as I thought it would be and I was able to get off a few times for events I wanted to par take in. Luckily I was home for the 4th of July weekend and ran a 5k that I placed second in.
My big race for the season has to be completing my first Tri. Now I can’t say a Triathlon was ever on my bucket list, but once my sister did it and enjoyed it, I felt FOMO so I needed to do it myself to see what it was all about.
I thought for sure that I was done for the season since the only other race I had a desire to do next was Virginia Beach Rock n Roll. I had done this race the past six years so I came to peace with being ok not running it. I knew this was over Labor Day which meant a holiday and for sure I wouldn’t get that off. Well wouldn’t you know it, I did end up getting of that weekend. So I couldn’t miss my running streak with it. The only thing is now I have to pay much more than I could have awhile back. Oh well, the price you pay I suppose.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing friends and running the race down in Virginia Beach again this year. A great way to bring an end to the summer!
Do you wait until the last minute to sign up for races just in case of the unknown and pay the higher fee or do you sign up early to get a great deal and if something comes up, you can at least feel good knowing that you didn’t pay too much? -L
It was so awesome you tried a tri this summer! I rarely wait until the last minute to sign up for a race. I hate paying more than I have to.
ReplyDeleteI have started waiting until the last minute to sign up for races. Weather and RA are my unknowns. But as my illness seems to have settled down, I'm able to start to plan a little more!
ReplyDeleteWell that's great! And then you can feel good paying a cheaper entry fee.
DeleteOoooh! I did the VA Beach race several years ago. It was awesome! Completely flat, and so much fun!!! You are going to love it. Definitely worth the (increased) price.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first tri!
Oh I know. I have done it the past six years. The only thing I don't love is the heat and humidity that race usually has.
DeleteThat's great that you're going to be able to go to Virginia Beach for the race again :) I used to sign up for races way in advance to take advantage of the cheaper price but since I had to skip a couple races due to tendinitis this year, I'm rethinking that practice.
ReplyDeleteI usually end up waiting to the last minute as well. Not because of an injury but because of my schedule.
DeleteI go both ways with races. Sometimes I sign up super far in advance, and other times it's last minute.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd enjoy running in VA Beach in Sept though! I've had way too much humidity! But I'm glad you can keep your streak alive. :)
Unless the race sells out, I'm tending toward waiting to sign up. Sounds like you kind of stumbled into some good races and results - hey, not planning ahead for races sounds relaxing!
ReplyDeleteHaha yea. The only thing is that those bigger race do tend to sell out quickly so you are not as fortunate to sing up at the last minute.
DeleteI tend to sign up as early as I can. I have missed the first tier of pricing, but usually I make it within the second tier. I normally get the time off first, if it's a destination, so I know I can sign up for the race.
ReplyDeleteSince I do not have a 9-5 job I never know my schedule until a month prior so that makes it hard for planning purposes.
DeleteThat's great that you'll be able to do RNR Virginia Beach and keep the streak alive! I still haven't done that one. When I signed up for the Love Run Half Marathon this past spring, I signed up like a week before - I had never waited that long before but it was perfect for marathon training!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at Rock 'N' Roll VA Beach! I prefer to plan ahead and register for races far in advance, but at my age, injuries are more frequent and take longer to heal. These days unless it's a race that might sell out, I wait until a week or two before to register. I just make sure I register early enough to be guaranteed I get the shirt size I want.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy RnR Virginia Beach! I ran it one year and remember it being very hot and humid. I usually sign up for races in advance when it is cheaper.
ReplyDeleteI wait until the last minute! If I register ahead of time, I get injured. That's how the universe works, right!? :) I hope you have a great race in VA!
ReplyDeleteI definitely have waited until the absolute last minute to sign up for a race in the past. Oh well. Have fun in Virginia Beach!
ReplyDeleteI am so OCD I alwasy register as soon as registration opens!!! Have a great race! I am now following you - you can follow back at Annster's Domain if you wish!
ReplyDeleteFor big races I sign up as soon as possible but for local races I register day of. I like to have flexibility in my schedule. We go out of town a lot to travel and a lot of time it's last minute.
