Weekly Wrap...Jan 21

                                                           What a great week!

There was no school on Monday but I had to go in and prepare things for the new semester and the new students I would be meeting! It's like the first day of school all over again!

Tuesday we ended up getting out of school early due to snow. Wednesday we had a delayed start and Thursday and Friday were our only full days of school for the week.

I decided that this was the week I was going to get back to my Tuesday and Thursday runs. When I came home on Tuesday I decided I was going to try to connect my iFit again to my treadmill and bike. I had been having trouble with it lately.

I was unsuccessful with using the ifit for the treadmill so I did my run sans map. I was able to do part of a Central Park run that I had downloaded on there last year.  The pace was a little slower than I would have liked but that's okay since I hadn't run in a while. However, the incline started out at 0 and I was told to NEVER run on the treadmill with an incline at 0.  I was about to manually adjust it when it automatically increased.  The pace did increase a little bit and then the incline was all overt he place going from 0 to 4.5.  Yup, that is exactly how I remembered my REAL run in Central Park!

After the run I actually used the Bowflex and did several sets of leg lifts.  I was determined to get this ifit module working, so after much fussing with it, I got it working on the bike.  I chose to do one of the "Snowy" rides.  The ride said it was in Park City Utah.  The first thing I noticed is that it was NOT snowing.

The route actually started at a trailhead near a log cabin.  It was clearly a summer day, not a wintery snowy one like the description said.  I thought maybe that would change so I gave it a try. This route was DIFFICULT. The incline was at 20% the entire time. I kept turning the resistance down but the stinkin bike/computer kept turning it back up. It took all I had to keep pedaling. I did one mile before calling it quits on that route.

The thing with the iFit workout is that you don't get just one route. I chose to do the Snowy route but there are several routes included in that workout. They are all different scenes and different distances.  There were about 12 different routes in this one workout. You are suppose to be able to do them over the course of several days. I wanted to skip the Park City, Utah route since it was tough and clearly not a winter route.  I tried the Breckenridge, CO route (also on this same snowy workout) and although the title came up "Breckenridge, CO, it was the same route I had from Utah! I tried several other workouts and again, they were all the same exact route as the Utah one. Dang, I wanted the snowy route!

I decided that if I wanted a snowy ride, I was going to have to ditch the ifit and turn my bike to face the window!

Thursday I did the same treadmill and Bowflex workout. I wanted to ride the bike too but I could not get the ifit to work at all so I just said forget it.

Saturday I did my first outside run of the year and it was just glorious!

I think this schedule of three runs a week will work for me through the spring!

And as far as running, that's a wrap! -M

  1. iFit does sound cool but I still prefer the outdoors.

    1. I prefer the outdoor too but sometimes the treadmill at home is just easier schedule wise. Especially if I'm only running short distances.

  2. Do you have to have a certain kind of treadmill to use the iFit? Or is it an app anyone can use? Sounds very cool. When I was doing a lot of indoor cycling, I watched a lot of YouTube cycling videos and it helped distract me a lot.

    1. You have to have a treadmill that has ifit on it when you buy it. Both my bike and treadmill are Nordic Track but I know other brands have the ifit included too. Then you have to buy a module and a subscription to the service. It's very costly, but I didn't get my monies worth out of it last year so I'm going to try again this year and see how it goes.

  3. That's frustrating that you are having so many issues with the iFit! So far mine is working but if I want to map a certain workout I need to do it on my computer before my run. That was a good idea to turn your bike to look out the window at the snow!

    1. I am getting a new module, so hopefully that will help fix whatever problems I'm having.

  4. I would be beyond frustrated with the iFit. Funny you should mention you turned your bike to the window. I did that too this week for a snowy scene! Congrats on the first outdoor run! Three runs a week is plenty, especially if you plan to cross train too. Thanks for linking!

    1. That outdoor run has definitely got me excited to do more now!

  5. That whole iFit business would frustrate the living daylights out of me! Probably a good thing I don't have anything that requires it around. I'll just take outdoor running and cycling, thankyouverymuch! lol And LOL at pointing the bike at the window for a snowy run. HA!

Three runs a week is actually pretty decent! I'm glad you were able to get outside!

    1. I also prefer outdoor running, but the treadmill is often a quick fix when I'm pressed for time!

  6. I use a similar strategy with my treadmill...it's facing a window...and I still detest almost every experience on it LOL

    1. Mine would have to face the back yard, so nothing too interesting there!

  7. I don't have a machine that supports iFit but the computer is still lousy. :) But when stuck indoors you do what you have to do!

    1. Is there a computer program you use with your treadmill? I hear there are apps that you can download that are suppose to give you virtual maps and route to run but I'm not sure how the treadmill would no when to adjust.

  8. That treadmill program sounds like fun! I always need something to distract me on the mill or I just can't do it. I get inside my head and I can't breathe. It's the weirdest thing! I'm also going to do a 3 run schedule this cycle. We'll see how it goes!

  9. I want to run in Utah for real sometime. :)

This upcoming FULL 5 DAY WEEK is gonna be killer!

  10. That iFit sounds awesome - congrats on getting it to work!

  11. It is so frustrating when technology doesn't cooperate! Great job with the week though! SO funny the snowy route was not snowy.

  12. That's so weird the iFit was all wonky like that. That pic looks almost tropical. Certainly not winter. It is pouring here this morning melting all our snow. Beats more snow I guess.

  13. Technology can definitely be so frustrating at times.

Doesn't it feel great to finally get outside? I do love that I have the treadmill as an option, and quite frankly, I run on it with no incline all the time. For years it was stuck on an incline (it's really old), but once it broke & Mr. Judy fixed it, poof! No incline. I get enough inclines when I'm running outside, and most of my runs are still outside.

    Have a great week!

  14. Sorry technology wasn't cooperating with you but I do have to say, those maps are pretty neat although the switching inclines would totally throw me for a loop!

  15. Technology never seems to work the way it's supposed to! Seemed like such a cool idea though.
Hope you have a nice week.

  16. I had never heard to not have the treadmill on no incline! I automatically put it at 1 when I get on, but I didn't realize you couldn't be at 0! Thanks for that info!

Running outside after this cold winter is glorious!!

  17. The ifit sounds pretty cool but that's weird that it kept giving you the same non-snowy route.

  18. You can come on out and run in the real Breckenridge, but I'll warn you about the altitude difference.

  19. I had to laugh when you turned your bike to face the real snow outside! Technology is great...when it works.

  20. The school schedule has just been absolutely nuts lately. Between the snow and the end of semester/beginning of the semester schedule, we will go the entire month of January without a full week of school. The most frustrating part is that the break in the routine makes the students so rowdy and has such a negative impact on classroom management and the classroom dynamic as a whole.

  21. Way to show that iFit who's boss by turning your bike to the window! Lol Maybe you should call tech support for that dang thing ...sounds terribly frustrating. Glad you got a pretty outdoor run in that snow though!

  22. I haven't heard of iFit but it sounds frustrating! Everytime I try to do my workout indoors I just end up being frustrated and angry, so I prefer running outside. Plus, I need the fresh air!

  23. Technology can be frustrating when it just doesn't want to go your way! But good job getting the work done anyway!

  24. I have never tried an ifit workout but I bet it's fun to mix up the routes and scenery that way (when it cooperates)
