Christmas Goodies

For today's Friday Five I thought I'd share a few running related goodies I got for Christmas.

But first, a little background story.
Last month I was telling my good running friend that I was going to ask for these blue tooth wireless headphones for Christmas. At the time I didn't do too much research and have heard great things about the Jaybird ones.

Since then, I did a little more research and looked up reviews with some comparisons on Youtube of the different kinds of wireless headphones. I even went to Best Buy to see them in person. Of course, I couldn't try any on. I saw a few in the cases and noticed that the Jaybird ones were a lot bigger than I thought they were. I was starting to second guess myself. After reviewing a few more I thought the Samsung ones would be a good fit for me because out of all the ones, they seemed to be the smallest and had no trouble with them falling out of your ears. Plus I am a Samsung girl, not an Iphone one. Unfortunately they did not have any in stock and it was online only.

The week before Christmas I received a package in the mail from my friend. They were the Jaybird headphones that I mentioned I wanted back then. Yes very thoughtful, but now I feel like I may be getting another pair from my parents.

Christmas comes and of course I get the Samsung ones I asked for. Now I have two pair, which ones are better? I have opened the Samsung pair and they seem to be good but I have nothing really to compare them to. I have yet to open the Jaybird, in fear that I won't be able to return them.

Has anyone tried either the Samsung Gear Icon X or the Jaybird Run?

My sister made me this plaque from the Outer Banks marathon. She said I deserved something more than just the pin I got. She is so thoughtful.

Another one of my favorites is this ornament my Mom madeNow I could expect this from my sister (like she did) but my Mom was quite a surprise. She remembered all the details that went along with it, and they were right!. I hope this starts a new tradition.

Some other items I received from my parents are the Gone For A Run PR sandals. I gave my mom a pair of the older style a few years ago and I always thought they were a bit goofy because they were the rubber ones, but she loves them and says they are very comfy. I am excited to try these once it gets warmer out. She always likes to do a theme so she got me a matching Boston sweaty band!

I purchased my Garmin 235 last year and that has got to be one of the best gift I ever bought for myself. I have worn it every day since I bought it and got much use out of it. The only thing that bothers me about it is that I feel weird when I dress up and am wearing a sports watch with my outfit. I have wanted a replaceable band that would be less sporty and match everyday attire. I received this black magnetic one. I watched a few Youtube videos to see how you change it. Doesn't seem too hard, but I am sure it is a bit tedious with those small screws. So needless to say, it hasn't got changed yet.

Do you have any advice on the headphones? -L

  1. I also have that watch and ended up buying a black band so that I felt better about wearing it to work. Rob changed it for me and said it was pretty annoying. So I won't be switching it back and forth. I got the Aftershokz wireless headphones for Christmas but they are too big. Now I debating if i should try the mini ones or a completely different kind.

    1. Can he come over and change my band too? haha. I need to get around to do it one of these days. I didn't want the Aftershokz because they sit above your ear from I heard. I like the ones that go inside.

  2. Those marathon gifts your family made for you are the best! I love stuff like that.

I have the Aftershokz headphones and I really like them but....they don't workout so well under a hat or headband. So it may be back to earbuds for the winter for me.

  3. I have not taken the plunge with wireless headphones. I say, if the Samsung work for you, stick with those! Congrats again on your Marathon WIN! I love what your sister and mom made you -- what great ideas. xxooxx

    1. I hope they do, but I have yet to wear them during a run.

  4. I'm still content with my Ipod ear buds. I'm a tech idiot and it's easier to shy away from a new gadget than it is to learn how to use it LOL

  5. I love the marathon gifts! So thoughtful. My family never gets the details right - sometimes it's in my favor - like the time my step MIL put that I ran a 2:34 in the Christmas letter instead of 3:34 - Olympics here I come! ;)

I gave a Jaybird pair to a friend and she liked them (after taking some time to get used to them.)

  6. So much good stuff!!!
I'm clueless on headphones but nice you have options.
Ive always wanted to try those flip flops. I bet they'd feel wonderful after a run.
I always feel that way with my Garmin watch& the bulky band... But I'd feel lost without it so I just deal with it ....& i do get a lot of questions about it.
Looks like you had a wonderful Christmas with such thoughtful gifts

  8. That was so nice of your sister to make you that plaque. Awesome gift. :) One of the reasons I got an all black garmin is because I thought it would blend in better if I am dressed up. It still looks a little sporty, but less noticeable since it it black, and when I dress up, I am normally in black! I hope you are able to learn how to switch out the band and that it is not super hard!

    1. When I purchased my watch I didn't know they sold interchangeable bands and I always wear a lot of teal. I also didn't know if I would end up wearing it for my everyday watch either.

  9. Those gifts from your mom and sister are so cute! That's a great idea for the band for the Garmin. I have the same watch but didn't realize you could change out the band.

  11. Such great gifts! I'm a big fan of the Afterschokz headphones but haven't really tried any others. Maybe just stick with the Samsung ones if you're happy with them.

    1. I hope it starts becoming a little warmer so I can try them outside. My biggest fear is that I am going to run and one will fall out of my ear and I won't be able to find it.

  14. Those are great gifts. I'm still using Yurbuds, but I know they fit, and my ears are small. Not many other headphones stay put. I've looked at wireless headphones, but I need to know how they will fit, so I haven't taken the plunge yet and gotten a pair.

    1. Your Lucky! Those Yurbuds never fit me which stinks because they are reasonably priced.

  17. Everyone seems to love the Jaybird headphones but I have not tried them out myself. It is nice to have a back up pair though right?

  18. What sweet and thoughtful gifts from your Mom and sister ...and those sandals do look very comfy! I wish I could help you regarding the earbuds, but I've not tried either. I have a pair of the Plantronics BackBeat wireless and like them just fine. Apparently I have odd ears because if they don't wrap around my ear, they fall out. Go figure.

    1. I have a hard time with ones staying in my ears as well. That is what makes me nervous about wireless ones.

  19. Happy Friday! I've been thinking about getting that Garmin and seeing your thoughts make me think it's a good idea!!

  20. Amazing idea! I love the ornament!

  21. Wow, what thoughtful gifts! Love the plaque and the ornament, especially. We are still using corded, old-school headphones (earbuds, really) but we've been playing with some bluetooth bone-conducting headphones at the local running stores in North Carolina, and they seem interesting. So no help for your dilemma, although it's a nice problem to have, too many headphones! :)

  22. Those are awesome gifts!! I also received a pair (Sony) for Christmas and have yet to try them out. I hope you keep/like the ones you got.
