Our Thoughts on The Cake Bake Shop at Disney World

We recently visited The Cake Bake Shop to celebrate my sister Lacey's birthday.

I had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for literally years! I had known about the only other Cake Bake Shop, located in Indian, but have never been there either. Disney certainly took its good old time opening up this one. I believe it was almost 2 years in between the time they announced it, till the time it actually opened.

The Cake Bake Shop is located at Disney's Boardwalk. It was the old ESPN Sports Zone.
Let's take a look at what it looks like now!

It is no doubt, a beautiful place! I love the color scheme and the decor. However, I did feel like the space was a little smaller than I had expected it to be from other photos I had seen.

We had a reservation for 2:00pm.  We had already ate lunch at the Grand Floridian, so this was going to be just desserts and drinks to celebrate Lacey's birthday.

The host took us to our table right away and provided us with menus.

Lacey ordered the Pixie Fetti Birthday cake.

This was obviously really pretty. I'm not a big fan of cake, and I really don't like cake that has the whipped icing, which this had, but I did have a small bite of it. For me, it was just lacking any real flavor.
This cake was a lot, and she ended up taking half of it with her in a to go container.
Lacey also ordered a Coconut Latte
My go to dessert is usually Keylime pie, so I was happy to see they had a slice of it on the menu.

Just like the description said, this pie was more like a custard. I did not realize that at the time ( just now reading this description again..lol). However, I knew there was something off about this pie and its texture.  To be honest, I didn't think this was the best Keylime pie I ever had. In fact, it rated pretty low on my list.  I too had extra pie left over that I took with me in a to go container, and really I wasn't even looking forward to eating the rest of it.

For my drink I ordered a Pink Princess. You can see part of the drink in this picture.
This was nothing more than a Shirley Temple, but it was refreshing on a warm Florida day.
Overall, I can't say that we loved this place and that it is a must do. The cake slices of course are over priced, as well as the drinks. However, I thought the Keylime pie was priced on par with what you would pay at a higher end restaurant.

The atmosphere here is really nice, very feminine and classy. It is definitely a nice place to quietly celebrate a birthday.

If you don't want to take the time to eat in the restaurant, there is a bakery/gift shop right next door ( it is actually connected to the inside of the restaurant as well).
The bakery/gift shop was MUCH smaller than I thought it would be by the photos I've seen other people post.

Side note story: Before our reservation at the Cake Bake Shop, we were walking around the gift shop "Screen Doors" at Disney's Boardwalk resort. While there, a cast member approached us and commented how pretty our Lilly Pulitzer dresses were.  She told us that we simply must visit the Cake Bake Shop in these dresses!
We told her that we did indeed have reservations and that we would be going there next! The lady was older, like a grandmother type, and I noticed on her name tag that she was from the same town I went to college in.  We had a nice talk with her about that, and about the Cake Bake Shop. She made us promise to come back to her afterwards and tell her all about our experience.

When we were done at the Cake Bake Shop, I felt compelled to bring the older lady a treat. I decided on getting her one of the pretty macarons from the bakery case.

When we got back to the Boardwalk gift shop, I was really hoping she was still working her shift. ( I was also hoping that she would even accept our gift. I don't know what the Disney policy is on accepting gifts from guests, and even so, it was food. Would she even eat it?).
It turns out, she was still working and she was so excited to see us return. She was even more excited that we brought her a treat! That experience right there was even better than our time at the Cake Bake shop!
During another visit to the Cake Bake Shop, my sister picked up this 4 pack of Macarons so we could try them this time.
These were a tasty treat, and I enjoyed these better than the Keylime pie I previously had.

So my advice, the restaurant is nice, but not worth all the hype. I'd just go to the bakery/gift shop and get a sweet treat and sit out on the boardwalk and it eat!

If you have been to the Cake Bake Shop or are planning to go, please tell us what you think.

Until next time! ~M and L
