About this Summer.....

Well, I've really fallen off the wagon when it came to doing the month in review blog posts.  I may have to set a new goal of doing them quarterly, like a "season in review" post.

So, about this summer.....

Usually I do a variety of things during the summer, lots of boating, biking, hiking, running, traveling, visiting the beach and visiting Disney.  I don't feel like my summer was well rounded because the only place I visited was Disney, and I did that over, and over, and over. I'm certainly not complaining.

Sadly, I did very little running. It was just too hot. I said I would start up again in the fall when it cools down, but we'll see how that goes.

There really are multiple legit reasons why I haven't been running.

1. It is very time consuming.

2. I really would rather spend time with my dogs and they are not runners, nor do I want to keep running with both of them in the jogging stroller.

3. Health wise, I just haven't felt the same since I was sick last fall. I still suffer from fatigue at times and running seems much harder than it use too.

4. I have to admit, I am a bit frightened to run by myself.  Funny how times have changed over the past 10 years or so. I would have thought nothing of running 20 miles on the trail by myself. Today, not so much. If I'm going to get back to running, I want a partner and it's not always easy to find someone who has the same schedule as me.  Lacey has still been running as usual.

We didn't go out on the big boat at all this summer, and only took the peddle boat out one time.  The water level here has just been so low.

I didn't even get over to the beach this summer and that's something I always do with my mom. I would say maybe we'll go in the fall, but I have a feeling fall is going to be busy.

I only biked twice this summer. Once with Scott and once with my dad. Usually we have a few family rides over the summer and even my Pappy rides with us. However, I did get some good walks in on the trail with my cousin. Each walk was over 10 miles!

I did do two hikes, one with my sister, Willow & Sybie, and the other with the Church group. Willow and Shelly both got to go on that hike with us.

Union County Veterans parade

After a two year hiatus, I was back to driving my Pappy in the Veterans 4th of July Parade.  It was nice to have a sense of normalcy this summer. Sybie, Willow, and I also spectated at the 4th of July 5K which Lacey and my cousin both ran.

We continued to play ball on my dad's " Field of Dream", which is always a good time for the whole family ( and the dogs).

Probably one of the best things that happened this summer is that I got my smell and taste back! I had gone 8 months with out it!  I got it back in June right before visiting Disney.  I may have even gotten it back the first day we were at Disney! I was so excited. I couldn't imagine being at Disney and not being able to taste or smell ( that is why we cancelled our trips last fall and winter).

In June, we had a family trip to Disney, and then my sister and I visited together several more times throughout the summer.  We recently attend Mickey's not So Scary Halloween party.  Check out our post for some good tips on MNSSHP.

I painted my dinning room, which I am really happy about and I am preparing for new flooring in my house! Picking flooring has been such a struggle for me! I'm hoping I can have something chosen and installed before Thanksgiving, but it doesn't look promising!

Other than that, we enjoyed watching the dogs swim in the pool. They were all sad to see the pool close this past weekend.

Sybie and I both had unfortunate accidents this summer. In July I got stung three times on the top of my foot, and then in August Sybie got attacked by a whole swarm of bees.  To say I was very scared and worried was an understatement.  Turns out Sybie and I are both allergic to bees.  After a vet visit and some injections, all ended well.

And that's how I'll leave this summer, knowing that it all ended well. Nothing majorly bad happened. Everyone is healthy and happy ( I hope), and that's all we can really hope for these days right?

What was your summer like? -M

Lacey had some additional travels this summer so please stay tuned for her future blog posts!

  1. It's nice to catch up with you! i'm glad you are finally recovering from Covid and that life has returned to (mostly) normal for you. I've been seeing your posts on IG, so that's kind of kept me in the loop. I too am glad to see summer coming to an end.

  2. Wow, Covid really did a number on you. So sorry you've had a rough recovery, but I am glad you've (mostly) rallied back. Myself, I had a brief bout with it mid-August, but it was almost nothing compared to the three vax shots I'd gotten to PREVENT it, LOL.

  4. I'm so sorry -- it sounds like you've long haul COVID and that just sucks. But hooray for getting your taste & smell back! That must have been SUCH a relief.

I have been going back & forth to my moms, and this Summer the aide has had to go several times for dental work so I've been there for multiple days as the aides transitions. Plus it was really hot here, too! Major drought as well!

I'm glad that you have been able to to add in some normalcy. We inch closer to that.

Here's to feeling better and hopefully feeling more like your old self.

    1. Thank you! I was so Happy when I got my smell and taste back. I was bummed last year when I could not taste any of my favorite holiday foods!

  5. Wow you had a lot going on this summer. The walking and hiking is great — no need to have an excuse for not running, but I’m sorry you still don’t feel 100%.

Yikes on the bees stings — I’m glad you both are OK. Scooby and I got stung by wasps when we accidentally got too close to a fallen nest, but we didn’t suffer any bad effects.

    Here’s to a fabulous fall!

So glad that your smell/taste came back! I hope you continue to feel better every day!

  9. Oh gosh! Not bees! That's so scary! I'm glad you're feeling better.

I am so sorry your illness has lasted so long. Not being able to taste or smell had to be hard. I hope this means you are almost at 100%.

Love the girls in the pool. The pugs would NEVER!
