And they can be very humbling if you get cocky and forget to train for them! You will have so much fun! I think they can be scary if you really race them, but if nothing else it can be a fun run and a great way to boost your confidence. I think the best part of shorter races is you get done quicker and can enjoy the rest of your day more easily. I find them MUCH ...I am TOTALLY intimidated by 5Ks. I find them MUCH harder than longer races like half marathons. I think it's a lot easier to run at a moderate pace for an extended period of time (i.e. at half marathons) versus running at high-speed for a very short distance (i.e. at 5Ks). There is so little room for error at 5Ks, too! For me, 3.1 miles is such a short distance that you have to basically sprint the whole thing! Long distance sprinting makes my lungs hurt just thinking about it...
