This weekend we are both embarking on our first race of the year! Ironically enough, last year at this time we were doing the same thing. I was running the NYC Half Marathon and Lacey was running the Shamrock Marathon. March seems to be a good time of year for the first race of the season because by then we are guaranteed quite a few days of good weather to get those training runs in.
So what do we have in store for our first races of the year on St. Patrick's day? Let's take a look...
On Sunday I will be running the Lucky Charm 10K. I discovered this race last year but I had already committed to running the NYC Half so I put it on my list for 2018. The weather this winter was certainly not as warm as last year so I'm kind of glad that it's only a 10K that I will be running because I did not train as well as I did last year. My last 10K was the Hershey 10K last April. To be honest, I was hoping to make that race a "goal race" of mine but I ended up running it with a chest cold so that didn't happen. I did not train to make the Lucky Charm race a "goal race" this year but I do hope to do better than Hershey last year. -M
Last year at this time I was running the Shamrock Marathon. I've run that race for three years and to tell ya the truth, I'm sort of over it. The weather seems to get worse each year I run it. This year I wanted to run in better weather. Turns out, I was lucky enough to get invited to run the L.A Marathon!
I know I haven't talked much about this training cycle, because honestly I do not think it was much of one. This winter was kind of hard to get my runs in. I took advantage of the nice days we had and did my long runs then and ran on the treadmill the other days. My highest mileage was only 15 miles. I 'm okay with this because I do not feel any pressure going into this race (Since I already BQ-ed back in November).
I 'm basically doing this race just for the experience and to visit a friend I haven't seen in quite some time! I never look up the course before a marathon. I guess I just like to be surprised while I'm running it. However, I do obsess about the weather (as do most runners). I saw that it is suppose to be raining all weekend...boo! At least it should be a warm rain. It will be a quick weekend but I'm going to try to make the best of it while I'm there. -L
Ever sign up for a race, not for the race itself but what it entails such as the travel, experience, people, etc?
We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.
Best of luck to both of you this coming weekend! Not every race is about getting a PR, so I certainly hope that you enjoy running in LA this weekend, Lacey. The weather there sounds so much more appealing than out here on the East Coast. :)ReplyDelete
I am definitely not concerned about a PR. I am just excited to enjoy the warmer weather. The East Coat has been awful this winter.Delete
I hope the rain holds off for you so you're fully able to enjoy your weekend! Have fun at the race! :)ReplyDelete
Last time I checked it wasn't suppose to rain n race day so I hope it stays like that.Delete
Good luck to you both! I think a 10k is a good distance around here for the weather we have had lately. I hope the rain holds off for the marathon!ReplyDelete
Thanks! Sometimes I think I should have just signed up for a shorter distance.Delete
Good luck to both of you! It looks like a lot of us have races this weekend! Should be fun catching up on a ll the recaps.ReplyDelete
Everyone seems to be doing a fun St. Patty's race. Even though I am excited about my marathon, it has no Shamrock theme!Delete
I do a lot of races for the atmosphere, the friends, and the experience of being there.I have a pretty horrible track record of "goal" races smacking me in the face (and, often the buttocks) if I put too much clout in finish times LOLReplyDelete
Exactly! Go for the experience and if you happen to run a great time so be it. If not, oh well!Delete
Have great races you two! LA has had some crazy weather for the marathon these past few years. Racing for the social aspect is my MO almost always these days.ReplyDelete
I have heard it has been really hot in the past, so this may be a nice change.Delete
Good luck to both of you.ReplyDelete
I ran in LA once - a half and yes it RAINED!!!!
Hope you luck out but as you said it was not cold.
I have a hat packed just in case.Delete
I sign up for races, but the location and friends play a big part of it. I knew by signing up for Vegas I could have a really fun race, and see a friend from college I hadn't seen in years. It was a pretty good weekend. Good luck in LA!ReplyDelete
Thanks! It always makes the race special knowing that you will be able to share it with someone you haven't seen in awhile.Delete
Good luck in both of your races! I was supposed to do the LA Marathon too, but I opted for Expo West instead. Hope it's good weather!ReplyDelete
I hope so!Delete
Good luck to you both! I hope that the rain holds off for you both!ReplyDelete
There usually aren't a lot of nice days until about May here & yup, it's snowing again. :)
My brother lives in SoCal -- there are so many to pick from in CA that I find it REALLY hard to choose!
It was snowing here actually again today. And we woke to a dusting from last night. Where the heck is Spring?Delete
Good luck to you both this weekend!! Running a 10K sounds perfect for me! And I did LA Marathon a couple of years ago and it’s a blast. You’ll love it!ReplyDelete
I hear the course is awesome!Delete
Good luck on your races, girls! Meranda, are you doing the Lucky Charm in Harrisburg?ReplyDelete
Yes, that's the one!ReplyDelete
Wow! Good luck to both of you this weekend! The LA Marathon sounds like fun! And, I thought it never rained in southern California? It couldn't be that bad, right? lolReplyDelete
I think the best part of a race is the travel, the people, and the experience. People actually run races for the race itself?
Yea that's what I have heard too. Leave it to be the weekend that I go that it rains.Delete
Good luck to you both! I do love a 10K and it's a great time of the year for them. I love traveling and visiting people while racingReplyDelete
Thanks! We are both seeing friends at this race so that should be fun!Delete
Have an awesome race!! We will be volunteering at Lucky Charm, see you there!ReplyDelete
