I bought a 25 pack of Sour Patch Kid Valentines for my kids at school and after giving one pack to Scott, and only 17 for the kids, guess who ate the rest? Yup, I ate them all at lunch time. BUT in my defense, those packs only hold like 4 or 5, right?
Our secretaries also put out a beautiful valentines spread. It was lovely with chocolates, and cookies, cupcakes, mini red velvet whoopie pies, and so many red and pink goodies. I succumbed to a strawberry and a sweet treat, so yea, I needed that run.
My Valentines day shirt may say "Love 2 Run" but I certainly wasn't feeling it at first. Before I got to the park, my goal was to run 5 miles. Once I started the first uncomfortable mile, I settled on only getting 3 in.
Okay, getting back to the run...... I did a lot of inclines running up and down the bridge. I figured that would half make-up for the low mileage. By the time I hit my goal of 3 miles, I was still on the bridge so since I was feeling better by now, I figured I 'd just run it on out until I did 4 miles. No sense in stopping at 3 and then having to walk back to my car!
Do you ever bargain with yourself on mileage while on a run? -M
I sure do! Sometimes when a run is really tough, I reset my goal for the run and bargain with myself to get there...
ReplyDeleteYup, I've done that too.
DeleteI bribe myself with food or Starbux.
ReplyDeleteStarbucks is my treat on long summer runs! (I like the frappes)
DeleteI constantly bargain with myself. Especially during the early miles. Once I get to that point I am usually good to go further.
ReplyDeleteYea the first miles are always the hardest!
DeleteI constantly have to bargain with myself lately!
ReplyDeletePerhaps we need better motivation?
DeleteI bargain with myself on mileage all the time! I'm usually like, do 1 more mile and then see how you feel. Generally, I get to that point and I know I can keep going. The mental tricks we play are definitely interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's definitely all mental!
DeleteI bargain with myself every day for about every thing ;)
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot - I have that shirt too (in purple) ... dang it - I would have worn it!!!
Oooh, I didn't know it came in purple too! It's my only valentine's day shirt.
DeleteI bargain with myself all of the time, especially if it is a difficult run. You have to motivate yourself to finish it somehow!
ReplyDeleteIt's not the finish I worry about its the "continuing to run"..lol. There's plenty of times I thought about walking to the finish!
DeleteAll the time...so much that when I have a particular distance scheduled, and I am not feeling it, I have my husband drive me to a location that far away from home. Then I really only have one choice to get home - even if it means walking!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea!
DeleteI love your shirt!
ReplyDeleteI negotiate with myself all the time! I went to the gym and had 5 miles in my head, and when I got to 1, I though about only doing 3 miles. After the 3 were done, I told myself to just finished what I came in for!
It's funny cus sometimes I am so determined to do the mileage I came to do and then sometimes I make excuses to cut it short!
DeleteHaha, I bargain with myself (and sometimes with my running buddies) all the time! I think that's just what runners do.
ReplyDeleteThat keeps running interesting, right?
DeleteSome days I do. Days like yesterday I can't even get myself to want to bargain. If I can, I'll start with two, and if I'm feeling good, I'll make 2.5, then 3. I always try to do 2 and see how I feel.
ReplyDeleteThat's smart to see how you feel before committing to a distance.
DeleteThat is so cool you saw search dogs! You always see interesting things on your runs. I love sour patch kids!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun seeing the dogs too!
DeleteOh man, I love Sour Patch Kids! I don't know if any would have survived long ago enough to go to the kids, if I bought them.
ReplyDeleteI actually even ate a few the night before when I was putting the names on them. I failed to mention that part!
DeleteSometimes bargaining is necessary. Glad you were able to get in your run! It always feels good to move after a day of indulging a bit too much.
ReplyDeleteI definitely make deals on miles! I wanted 7 last weekend, but my usual loop is 5.5. I extended it to 6.5....and then I sucked it up and got the 7. I volunteered at the 5th grade kids' party. Talk about a food/swag fest!
ReplyDeleteGreat job sticking with it and making it to 4 miles! I bargain with myself all the time! HAH!
