Running and Loving my Fleece

I got some really cool things this winter for winter running and I've just recently tried them out.

You may have remembered me saying that Scott bought me two pairs of fleece lined running tights for Christmas. Well, I absolutely love them. I was so eager to try them out back in December, but when it's 49 degrees, you certainly don't need to be running in fleece running tights! ( I wore them for a few runs in the 40's and was way over dressed). With that being said, I didn't get to wear them again until this month!

The tights are the fleece insulated arctic barrier athletic tights by RBX Active. I got a pair in black and a pair in grey. I'll be honest with you, they are a much lighter weight fabric than my regular non fleece lined running tights so I was skeptical on how warm they would be. When I would wear them outside on a cold day, I was still cold.  It's not until I get running that they kept me warm.  Most running tights seem to be a bit long on me, but I like that these have a zipper on the ankles because wearing them unzipped a little allows them to be the perfect length.

Most recently I came across a fleece lined top of the same brand (which I found on sale).  Looking back, I wish I would have bought two ( in different colors), But seeing as though most of my runs take place in the afternoons, I barely have the opportunity to run when it is in the low 30's (which is when I would be needing the fleece lined top and tights).  So I only went with the one top.

The day I saw the deer at the park was my coldest run all season and my Garmin recorded the temps between 27-32 degrees. I only had on the fleece lined plants, and the fleece lined top (no shirt underneath), and I was completely warm enough.

And speaking of cozy items, remember when I wrote the post about Running through a Horror Film? It was about 60 degrees during that run but it started to rain. I happened to have a pair of my RunLite gloves with me and I used one to light the path since it got dark and I used the other one to protect my phone against the rain.  I did not write that post to showcase any products, but it just goes to show that you never know who's reading your blog because the day after I posted that, I was contacted by an agency to see if I would try out the RunLite Mittens.

I happily said yes, because I think the mittens are a fabulous idea. I've had the RunLite gloves for some time now but thought that by not having the fingertips covered was a flaw in the design.  When I used them before, I would have to wear my knit gloves underneath the RunLites just so my fingers would stay warm. Not anymore. Now, I can have warm fingers AND Light. The picture on the right shows the liners for the mittens. The lights slip right on top of the mittens.

We will be linking up with the gals from TOTR.

  1. Now you can run through a horror film with those lights! LOL!

  2. I also have some fleece lined tights from Athleta -- and my Skirtsports Toasty Tights -- both get a lot of use, even with so many "warm" winter days. We've had so many crazy windy days (like today) where it can often feel like it's in the teens.

  4. Glad to hear that the new items are working out well for you. The weather this winter has been so wonky, and to be honest, I would rather it be warm enough that fleece tights aren't necessary.

    1. I agree but they are great for those few days that it is colder than I would like.

  5. I may have fleece lined tights but never wear them. It would have to be below zero.

I hate being warm when I run. I usually just wear capris with compression knee socks.

    1. OMG if it's below zero I'm not even going outside. Does your weather get that low often?

    1. You mean you don't have fleece tights? I thought that would be a staple up in Canada.

  7. WHen I first saw those pink gloves, I was like, 'IS THIS A PRINCESS THING?!?!?' - haha... but I love the lights. Perfect for those dusky runs!
I have a few pair of fleece tights... because as you know, I freeze always.

  8. It's never cold enough to truly wear fleece but it does look comfy! I don't like being warm when I run - I'd rather be just a bit too cold.

  9. I have a couple of Brooks Heater Hog shirts, which are lined, although not fleece-lined. I do love them and wish I'd bought more because they don't make them anymore. I'll have to check into your brand; I don't need the tights as my legs rarely get that cold...but my core, yes.

Love those lighted running gloves! Wish I had a pair - almost all of my runs are done in the dark of early morning.

  10. Ooh I like the thought of zippers. Would be easy to take the pants off without taking off your shoes.

    1. Actually I still have to take my shoes off to take them off because they don't slide through easily.

    1. Oh yea, the fingerless ones would be so helpful for lots of things other than running. I told Scott they would be good for early morning fishing.

  12. Those tights sound great! I have one pair of winter running tights that I absolutely love. Like you said, they don't feel that thick but somehow manage to keep my warm while running. Those mittens look cool. I hadn't heard of them before.

  14. It has been a strange and warm winter, I'm not complaining! but it feels weird to not be thinking of how many layers to wear in February!

  15. I need some warmer tights - I see RBX at TJ Maxx all the time, I'll have to pay better attention next time & try a pair on!

  17. lol the lined tights look so funny and the weather here is so hot now. So to be honest I will not try it. But other Adidas items are really worth to try

  18. I love my regular RunLites but YES to mittens!!! I have thermal tights that I love but Spandits just came out with fleece lined, which I need to try. I'll bet they're awesome when it's really cold. Fingers crossed, we're skipping winter here this year.

  19. I like the fingerless gloves - my hands are the first thing to get hot, so their regular gloves are a bit too much. And it's been cold enough maybe one time this year to run in fleece tights...

  20. I have some fleece lined tights from Athleta that I love as well! It's typically too warm around here to run in them, but I have worn them while cycling many times ...they're perfect for breaking that wind!

  21. I need a good pair of fleece lined running tights! We don't get too many opportunities to wear them but when we do we usually really do need them!

  24. I could have used those fleece pants during the WDW Marathon this year! I rarely need clothes that warm to run but it does happen! Those gloves look really cool.

  25. All of your running clothing sounds so warm and toasty! I only own 1 fleece jacket as it's hardly ever that cold here!

  26. I don't think it's ever been cold enough here for fleece-lined tights, but those sound great!

I love my RunLites fingerless Gloves. They are just enough without being too hot.

  27. I wish I could wear these on every run but I know that would be silly..lol

  28. Fleece lines tights are the best and yay for getting to try out those mittens, I much prefer mittens over gloves in the winter, they keep the fingers warmer, and I really hate cold hands when running.

  29. Those gloves are super intriguing... and very old looking, lol!
