Just a drop in the Bucket List

The term "Bucket List" carries a lot of weight around here.  It's reserved for those things that we've always wanted to do . They may be things that may have felt just a little out of our reach or perhaps would take a while to get to. In essence, it's not a term we throw around lightly.

And if we have to be honest, I really don't think either of us has created a bucket list of races. Sure there may be races that come up that we would like to try, but would they be considered "Bucket List"?  Probably not.

Here are our thoughts........

Meranda
When I first started running the Disney races, I had a list in my head of all the ones I wanted to run ( yes, I suppose you could call this list a Bucket list).  After November, I will have checked all of those races off of my list.  I recently started wondering what it would be that I would have to look forward to next (as far as running was concerned).  I suppose I have a few favorites that I will continue to run from year to year and I have also started to research some new ones in places that I want to visit. These new to me races wouldn't be bucket list races, but just ones that I think I might enjoy.

Like most people, The Boston Marathon was on my Bucket List. Sadly, that's pretty much the only race that was. Anyone that knows me knows that I really don't plan that far ahead and I just take advantage of opportunities that are presented to me. If it's a race, yea I'll probably run it. I've been asked several times if I have any desire to run the NYC Marathon. I'd like to say yes, because it is one of the Marathon Majors and running it would then have me completing all the majors in the USA.  It's also close logistically so that's definitely a plus. However, it seems like it would be a major expense with hotel and traveling . Also the logistics on race day and maneuvering around the city stresses me out just thinking about it.

What will you do when you run all your "bucket list" races?   Can you suggest any really great races on the East Coast?

  1. I'm not a Marathon Majors kind of girl. I like to find random small races to run when I'm already visiting somewhere. But I'm also done with marathons for a while after MCM.

  2. I don't any anything on my budget list.... but would love to do a Disney race one day. Otherwise, lots of great races in France, and I have run most of them. A half marathon in another EU country would be nice, but so many are on cobblestones, and in streets I have already seen, that nothing really appeals to me. Yet.

    1. That's how I feel as well. There are a lot of great races around here that I don't need to travel that far for.

  3. I didn't find NYCM stressful logistically so don't let that keep you away. We found a hotel just a few block from the finish line (that dropped in price twice) so taking a taxi to the Staten Island ferry was the extent of the logistics.

  4. Not much is on mine either- other than going to Paris now. And maybe one of those awesome downhill races so I can feel fast for once. lol

  5. Disney will have to come up with some new races so you 2 can add them to your list!

    1. Yes! That would be nice. I'd like some new themes besides Star wars!

  6. Lacey I have to agree about NYC. I would love to run it but it does seem like a huge hassle and EXTREMELY expensive!

  7. I'm only an hour outside of NYC but the logistics of the NYCM also stress me out! I've never done a Disney race, but definitely want to at some point!

  8. There are so many races I'd like to do, really I just want to get out of the Philadelphia/DC area and branch out. I think doing a race in New England would be fun. I'd really love to run anywhere in the world that I can get to, lol!

  9. There are a few races I'd like to do, but it'll take me a while to get to them if I'm only doing one race each year. Bolder Boulder is next in May, and I'll have to see how I feel with that training and recovery. Fall has so many races to choose from, and I could do something in DC and see family, or closer to home.

  11. I agree with your thoughts on Bucket list.

One race that has been on my radar for a while is the Rock and Roll Las Vegas and sometime in my life time, I would LOVE to do a RnR race in Mexico!!

I highly recommend Bird in Hand Half Marathon, it is so hot and hilly, but absolutely worth all the pain !

  12. I get what you're saying! I think that's why I put 2 marathons on my list, because the distance is such a challenge for me, it's a bit of a reach.

  13. I have no East Coast race suggestions, but I do have a few races on my list - Tink being one of them! :)
