This is what I'm figuring out.

School is over this week so I'll now be able to spend more time on the trail. To prepare I thought I would finally update my playlist on my iPod. I realize I'm probably one of the few that still use an iPod, but as long as mine's still ticking, I'll never give it up!  Besides, why would I want to waste so much space on my phone for music?

Using iTunes has always been kind of a challenge to me. I eventually get the music where I want it, but it ends up usually being a happy accident because I don't always remember what I am suppose to do (You would think it would occur to me to write it down one of these days).

Anyway, I got a new laptop for Christmas and I never really transferred anything from my old computer to my new computer yet.  Silly me thought iTunes was something I could log into from any computer, but I guess it's not so I had to watch a tutorial on how to transfer my iTunes and all my music to my new laptop. I was actually successful at it and I can see all my music just as it was but there is still a little glitch in the iTunes so I couldn't use it.  At this point I had been on the computer for many hours and didn't even know where to start to fix the glitch so I just gave up and went back to my old lap top to download my new music.

In the process, I decided that I wanted to organize my songs by album and artist. Since a lot of my older songs were from MP3 files, they didn't have this information.  I watched a tutorial that said in order to organize my music like this I had to download something called Music Brainz.  So I did.  Needless to say, I couldn't even get the app to open up.  Finally I deleted the app and figured out how to re-label my music on my own. I have to say I was pretty proud of my non-techy self for figuring this out.  I love that my music is all labeled now and it makes it easier to listen to an entire album if I want.

Speaking of entire album. Here is a little side story.  Many years ago, I use to listen to my favorite CD while falling asleep. Fast Forward a few years, and I no longer even had a CD player in the house to listen to it on so I just got on YouTube on my phone and played the songs from the CD on there. The songs played non- stop one after another so it was just like I was listening to the CD.

When I got my new phone, I tried doing the same thing. HOWEVER, this time there was an ad that played after EVERY song! This was quite annoying. When I listen to Youtube on my laptop I don't get ads after every video.  I did notice that there is a paid version of Youtube that is ad free. I considered that (when I thought perhaps it was a one time fee), but knowing that it is a monthly fee I quickly changed my mind and just decided to make a playlist with the albums I like on my ipod and that has been working out great since.  I'm liking my new phone but I realized that every app I use, there are ads on them now. When I used the same apps on my Blackberry, I never got ads (but I guess what companies really want to advertise on the Blackberry platform since there was probably only 8 of us still using it...haha).  Make fun all you want, but see, that was one thing I loved about that little Blackberry phone, no ads!

Oh, and one last thing. Remember that horrible podcast I downloaded last year? How do I delete it off my iPod. I've been trying to watch tutorials on how to do that as well, but I haven't found anything that works.

So tell me, do you get ads? How do I delete that podcast? -M

  1. I can't help you with your podcast, but I will agree with you that iTunes is glitchy. I've made playlists and somehow my iPod shuffle would only accept the latest one - it wouldn't let me choose a specific one for, say, a longer run. I've been using Google Play for music and I can work it pretty easily, but if I don't buy the songs, I can only listen to them on my phone and computer - I can't transfer them to my iPod. I just don't think they make this easy!

    1. I assume you use Google Play to listen to Music on your phone? Do you create a playlist on your phone? I need to look into that. I habe so much music on my desktop and I'd like to just transfer some of it to my phone instead of purchasing new music if that's even possible.

    2. I create the playlists on my desktop but it's all in the Google cloud, so it's not taking up space. I'm sure you could create playlists on your phone as well.

  2. I was using my phone for music, but it kept taking up too much memory, and I couldn't take pictures. Now I'm back with a Nano, and I like having the music separate from my phone.

  3. You sound like me trying to do anything new with technology. I gave up on my old little ipod and just use my phone now. I like listening to Amazon Prime radio-- but I'm not super picky about music.

    1. Why did you give up on your ipod? Is Amazon Prime radio included in all prime memberships or is it extra?

  4. I prefer my iPod for music. I was always running out of space on my phone (though with the new one that will take awhile). As for removing the podcast, have the iPod connected to the computer and uncheck it and then apply the changes. I do have to say I'm proud of what you figured out so far! :)

  5. I did move itunes from one computer to another but it was a few years ago now so I couldn't tell you how I did it.

I use Amazon for my music, most of the time -- at home, anyway, although if I wanted to use up my data I could use it out, too, but I rarely listen to music when I'm out.

  7. Oh how I loved my Blackberry too! I had one for years before I finally got an iPhone. I also have an iPod but don't I rarely run with music. The times that I do run with music, I like the using Amazon Prime since I have a playlist just with running songs.

That is annoying about the ads. I love listening to th Moana soundtrack and get annoyed with the ads.

    1. I also went from a BlackBerry to an iPhone and then back to my Blackberry. I really hated giving that phone up because I believe it was ahead of its time. I finally got an android phone and am liking that better than the iPhone (but not better than the Blackberry...haha)

  8. I don't use iTunes at all anymore. I'm all Spotify, all the time. It's so much easier!

  9. I'm no help. I never listen to music or podcasts. Sounds like you found a work around though.

  10. Its very frustrating and annoying to deal with all the ads. This is a big reason why I just suck it up when it comes to loading music onto my phone and letting it take up space. I do a big photo transfer from my phone to the computer every couple of weeks, and that seems to help with the space issue.

  11. We have a family subscription to Apple Music, and it's the best thing we have ever done. We can listen to anything that is available on itunes, no commercials and we can make playlist. We wouldn't know how to live without it now. What kind of phone do you have?

  12. Wait, you can't log into your iTunes on a different computer? Good grief. Guess that shows how often I use my iPod. I usually just use Pandora (I pay for the ad free version because, yes, TOO MANY ADS!!!). I'm afraid to put music on my phone because what if I run out of room for my pictures? haha!

You can't just delete the podcast? There isn't a delete option? When did I get so old and technologically un-savvy?
