Let's Sell some clothes

This past week I started doing inventory on my running clothes. I had come to a realization that I did NOT need all the running clothes that I had.

There were race shirts that I have not worn in a very long time. Most of them because they are not comfortable (because they are a little too snug), but mostly because I rarely run in shirts because I prefer tank tops. So I started making piles, one to keep and one to toss. I admit it literally pained me to toss some of my Disney race shirts. But really, what am I going to do with shirts that are too small? I've been tossing around perhaps finally making a quilt or trying to turn those shirts in to tank tops. Any suggestions?

I also realized that I have grown out of my running skirts (both figuratively and literally).  I use to run ALL my Disney races (and a few other races too) in running skirts.  I thought they were stylish and I LOVED the two pockets they offered.  The pockets were the perfect size to keep my phone on race day. I've since got a new phone that does not fit in the pockets so the skirts have sort of loss some of the appeal for me. Also, they too have become a bit snug.

As I get older I am more conscientious about what I wear to run in. I'm falling into the Middle Aged Runner category and some things I use to run in, I just don't feel comfortable in anymore. I do want to keep some of my running skirts but something I've been worried about is the length. Now understand that these running skirts have the shorts built in underneath and I am comfortable with the length of the shorts. However, The skirt part is a little short. But does that matter? I guess it's not like the skirt is any shorter than the shorts.  I guess I just don't want to be running and have someone say Who does that middle aged lady think she is in that short skirt?

Brand New Prana dress with tags. Never worn. I think it's time to pass it on.

In addition to some running skirts, I also have other fitness clothes and gear that have never been worn or used and I think I'd like to try and sell some of it off but I'm not sure how to do that. I guess I could try ebay. But how do people sell things in those online running groups? How does payment happen? I know I could use that Facebook Market Place thing but then  I'm really only limited to selling to people who are willing to come get the item, right? -M

Lots of questions for today.

What is the best way to sell running items? What is your running outfit of choice these days?  Has what your wear running changed over the years?

  2. Ive used ThredUp before to get back a little money for clothes I would no longer wear. They send you a bag and then you just mail back the clothes. I think I got a decent amount of money for a short I never wore awhile ago. Im not sure about the running clothes but I bet you could get something for that dress!

    1. I thought the dress was cute too but never wore it cuz it ended up being tighter than I would have liked.

  4. If you have new items with tags like that dress, I would sell it on Poshmark. I have sold a ton of stuff on there. Check it out

  5. I almost never buy running shirts anymore - I get too many race shirts as giveaways (the exception is tank tops). I have given away so many unworn race shirts to our local thrift store. I don't know about used, though. My running shirts are too yucky to even donate! :)

    1. I felt the same way. I would never buy running shirts because I already had so many "free" ones from races!
I don't plan to sell any of the running clothes I've already worn just the ones that still have tags on them that I did not wear. However, some of the running skirts I've only worn once or twice to a race so I may try to sell them since they are still in great shape due to minimal wear.

  6. I have used Thred Up to get rid of some clothes before, but they didn't pay me. I think it was considered store credit or they gave me a discount code. Anything they decide not to keep they will donate for you. Plato's Closet will pay you most of the time, but anything they don't keep you're still responsible for.

As for your t-shirts, I highly suggest a quilt or tank tops! I have number of t-shirt quilts and they're all special. I get to hold on to memories and make room in my drawers. And there are tons of tank top tutorials on Pinterest!

    1. Yea, I'm leaning toward trying the tank top thing and if that doesn't work out I can still use the shirts to make a quilt.

  7. I'm terrible with hoarding clothes! It's bad! I have had some luck at Clothes Mentor-- just because it's really easy.

  8. I just donate stuff. Oddly enough, my skirts have sometimes gotten shorter over the years. And if you're middle aged, then I'm old! I seriously don't care what other people think. Do I have great thighs? Nope, definitely not. But what I care about more is how it feels. Function over form!

  9. That prAna dress is so cute! I've been thinking about purging some of my running gear too but haven't figured out the best way to sell them.

  10. I made a quilt out of a bunch of race shirts awhile ago, and I love the way that it turned out. I now use my Project Repat quilt on a regular basis. If you decide to go this route, let me know because I can probably get you a discount code.

  11. That dress is pretty! I usually just donate or give stuff away rather than selling it only because I do not want the hassle!

  12. I wish we could create some type of runner clothing swap group. ??? I made a quilt out of my 64 race shirts. Best decision ever! It's time for another one. I don't think anyone one would say "Who does that middle age lady..." if you wore your skirts. Thanks for the link up.

  13. You are never too old to wear short shorts!! EVER! Anybody that you see along your run, you will probably only see them for less than 2 seconds, who cares what they think!! But do whatever you feels best!

  14. I need to purge a lot of my running tops, too. Like you, I prefer tanks...short-sleeve tops just look and feel awkward on me (I do like long-sleeved tops, though). I wrote a blog post three years ago on how to make a shirt into a tank, maybe you could give it a shot-->http://kimrunsonthefly.blogspot.com/2015/06/getting-crafty-with-race-shirt.html

  15. I sell things on Poshmark and Mercari. The "big" fitness brands usually sell pretty fast, as do things new with tags.
