My 5 Races

This Friday Five is very timely because I am about to embark on my fifth race of the year.  I know 5 races at this point in the year really isn't all that impressive considering back in 2015 I would have been on my 10th race at this point in the year. Oh how times have changed.

I've been more selective about the races I choose to participate in and I am not so quick to sign up for those back to back challenge races. I don't need the extra medal.

Here are the races I've done so far in 2017.

1. NYC Half Marathon: I've mentioned this before but this race was truly AMAZING and I am so glad I got to participate. I think this has been my favorite race thus far.

2. Hershey 10k: I wasn't a fan of the race ( although that could just be because I was running with a chest cold and was way over dresse). However, spending the day at the Chocolate Spa at the Hotel Hershey was definitely the highlight of the weekend.

3. The Monumental Mile: It was fun to run the parade route and see everyone out supporting our veterans. I will be putting this one on my list to do next year for sure! Kudos to my dad and my running buddy for both placing in this race.

4. The 4th of July 5k: I just don't know about this race. Every year I say I'm not going to do it again because of the heat and the huge hill but then I do feel so accomplished afterwards.

5. Number 5 for the year will be a local color run on Saturday. I have no desire to do a color run but I. Issued last weekends race and this is my last chance to get in a 5k race in August. It's right in my park too, so why not?

How many races have you run this year? Is that more or less than usual?

You can read more about each of the races on our Race page

  1. I believe I did two races so far this year: Last Man Standing and then the Table Rock trail race I did in CA. I am thinking about running 2 trail races for "fun" this fall, and then of course the relay.

  2. I have run the normal amount for me so far this year, which makes me very happy, considering how my year started out. If all goes well, I will end up with a few extras tacked on late in the year.

    1. I'm glad you are doing so well considering your new diagnosis this year.

  3. I don't really count up races. And then there's the winter series, which isn't really a race, although I count the New Years Day one as a race. I think I'm only up to 6 myself -- there's really only one race I missed due to family stuff that I really wanted to do.

I don't like racing in the summer as much, although I'm doing a trail 5k Sunday -- mainly just as a recovery run.

NYC Half must be pretty sweet. :)

    1. There are a lot of 5k's here in the summer which makes it tempting but the heat and humidity always makes me think twice!

  4. I did 5 races in Spring, but then nothing since May! I've got two lined up for the fall and am contemplating one more.

    1. You had a busy spring with running and looks like you've had a busy summer with biking!

  5. I've been on a racing hiatus, but I'd like to do one this fall!

  6. I think I had done 10 races up until that fateful day in June...which is about where I'd normally be. Of course, all of my racing came to an abrupt halt, so I will end the year with much fewer races than usual...I have a half in November (which I registered for a long time ago) and am hoping to do a couple other short races before then if my recovery continues...

    1. I hope you will be recovered for your half in November.

  7. You've had some really fun races this year! I actually haven't done that many races this year. My busy race season is always the Fall and so far I have 4 pretty big races scheduled!

  8. I have no idea how many races I have done this year so far! Now I am motivated to go back and check

  9. Looks like some good races. The spa sounds like the best post race plan. I started huge with the Dopey Challenge and have had a couple since then including RnR DC and Cherry Blossom, which were both a lot of fun this year.

    1. Wow, you've had some big races this year! If I did Dopey I consider myself done for the entire year..haha.

  10. Oh Lord lol I've done about 14 races so far this year...and that's way more than I normally do but that's with me counting race weekends where I do "challenge" style races and do more than one race distance in the same weekend. I love to race though so I usually plan a few big events and then add in others as the season goes on!

    1. Yea, it's easy to rack up the races when you do those challenges!

  11. Good luck with your 5th race! I have not run a 5k this year but I'm thinking of possibly signing up for a turkey trot finally.

    1. Thanks Amanda! I have yet to do a Turkey Trot. Maybe this year if the weather cooperates.

  12. I've run way less this year - I think I'm at 10 when I typically do 20 by now. I usually do a bunch of 5Ks in the summer but it didn't work out schedule wise. Hopefully the break will do me good. Have fun in the color run!

    1. Thanks Erica. Hopefully you'll have some fun races in the fall to make up for the ones you missed this summer!

  13. My racing is way down this year too. I'm typically good for 12 or so. This year I've raced twice so far. A triathlon and the half in Utah. I've got a few things on tap for fall though.

    1. I don't think I'll even hit 10 this year, which is low for me. Can't wait to see what you'll be doing this fall!

  14. I think I've done less races than usual this year (not sure). Mostly it's because races are getting SO EXPENSIVE!!

    1. you are right, even the smaller races are costing more.

  15. I'm doing a color run too tomorrow at Coors Field. It'll be my second race of the year since I am also much more selective on what I do. It's not normally my thing, but my cousin's fiancee put a team together so a bunch of us are going to just have fun.

  16. I've only run four races this year compared to nine by this time last year - combination of not wanting to spend a lot of money on a 5K, and just not wanting to deal with a later start time for a race in our heat. It's all good, though - I still run, I just don't race.

Hope you enjoy your color run - I did one and that was enough for me. I wasn't so much of a run as it was a walk through colors. You just have to have a different perspective at the start and it'll be fun.

    1. Can you believe this race doesn't start till 10 am? It's going to be so hot by that time.

  17. You can be like my husband & have the goal to avoid ALL color at the Color Run. He comes out so clean, its amazing.
I dont blame him - inhaling that stuff is so gross. I have blue or green snot for a week ;) haha

    1. I thought about wearing a shirt that said "no color please". I might still tell the people that as I run by...haha

  18. Have fun at the color run! I did one once and it was fun.

  19. I've run much less this year than usual. I have completed a marathon, 2 half marathons, a 10k and 2 5ks (I think). I'd really like to run the NYC half marathon. Maybe one day.

    1. That's still a lot of races you've done. NYC was awesome!

  20. Oh a color run!! how fun! I haven't done one of those in a while! why don't you want to do a color run?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I could care less about the "color" and quite frankly I don't want it on me. I don't really have any running clothes that I don't want messed up and I don't want to run in a cotton t-shirt. I guess I'll just have to wear something I care about the least.

  21. Thanks to injuries at the beginning of the year I haven't run one race this year. I have one next month and a couple in October and November, but overall my racing will be way down.

  22. I too have been much more selective this year about the races that I register for. Before having a child I was all for running X races each year (14 in 2014, 15 in 2015, etc.) but my priorities have shifted dramatically and I'm now much more focused on quality vs. quantity.

  23. 5 races is still an achievement. Every race entered is a success to overcoming oneself in saying no. Keep it up!

  24. I love that you have no interest in a color run but you're doing it anyway. Lol! I bet you'll have fun!!
