Weekly Wrap ....July 9

Wow, I haven't done a weekly wrap since the Monumental Mile back in June! I don't mean to be slacking but I guess I've been busy. I haven't even done a #FashionFriday post on IG with @Runningonthefly either. I need to catch up!

View of the lake.

Since that last week in June, I've been boating, doing some painting at my house, attended a graduation party at the lake, and had a chiropractor appointment (the kind that hurt so good)!

There's been a little bit of running intermixed in there but nothing to really write home about because it's been way too hot to get in any "quality" runs.

Is it taboo to take a photo in a cemetery?

I did run in town to the cemetery.  I went to visit my Grandma. You would think running in a cemetery would feel morbid but it wasn't. It was peaceful and I could feel a sense of pride as I ran through and seen all the flags. That run was hot and hilly and I felt so accomplished.  It seems like all the cemeteries in our area are on a hill. Are yours?

A pretty house along the water. We passed this on our walk.

I've also been meeting my mom at work and walking with her around the lake as she walks her "work dog". We've done about 2 miles each time.

I've also done a couple little runs near my house. Again, nothing special.

I've been keeping my runs small lately because 1) it's just too hot, 2) I've been finding other things to do with my time this summer, and 3) I have nothing to train for right now.

When I say I have nothing to train for, I mean I haven't signed up for anything else just yet. I have a few 5ks I might run in the coming months and then 2 longer races I'm debating on in the fall.  It feels kind of good to not do any long distance running this summer. I'm sure I'll miss it thought and I'll be feeling the itch to get back out there soon.

Where's the oddest place you've run? Is your local cemetery on a hill? Is it taboo to take a photo there?

If you missed our posts this past week, you can read about the 4th of July 5k or How to soften your cotton race shirts (or any t-shirt).

We are linking up with Holly and Tricia (and the guest host) for their weekly wrap.

  1. Sounds like you're taking advantage of the summer and a break from training! I've never run in a cemetery, but I do think the ones around here are hilly. But everything around here is hilly!

    1. It's nice to be on a little break but I also feel lazy too!

  2. I don't think that running in a cemetery is weird; I used to run along the ones in St. Augustine, FL when I lived there and see how old the gravestones were. There were some from the 1600s!

    1. That's interesting. I remember in college our writing professor made us go to a cemetery and write stories. I thought that was weird at first until we started looking at how old all the gravestones were.

  3. Nah I don't think it's taboo. I think it's pretty, especially with all of the flags! In fact, the cemetery in my hometown is called Oak Hill Cemetery and it IS on a hill!

    1. Yea, cemeteries can be real pretty if they are well maintained!

  4. I'm with you on it being too hot to do much running right now. And that's OK! :)

    1. I've been doing more work around the house, so that's a plus I guess!

  5. I've never run through a cemetery before I have no idea how I would feel about it.

  6. The weather this summer has been super hot, so I totally don't blame you for keeping your runs short and sweet!
I don't think that running to a cemetery is weird and I can see how it would be very peaceful.

    1. I like short and sweet runs but I do feel the itch to Take them up a notch!

  7. There's a really pretty cemetery by my house and I've never run there. I asked my husband if he thought it would be wrong for me to run there, and he said no. I'm not so sure!

    1. I actually had a purpose to run to the cemetery because I wanted to visit a grave so in that instance I didn't feel guilty running there. On the other hand, a few years ago I ran through a cemetery just for the sole purpose of getting off the road and into some shade and in that instance I did question myself if it was disrespectful or not.

  8. Crazy - I ran in a cemetery on my vacation last week. I've shared a few pics in my post. :-)

  9. There is a local 5k race in a neighboring town that runs through a cemetery. It is one of my favorites. It's peaceful! And YES, it is on a hill!

    1. That is odd that it runs through a cemetery! Is it a race honoring military or something?

  10. I haven't trained for anything through the past few summers. It's nice to take a break after my spring races, but I start again when I feel the itch. I'm running again, but I'm maintaining a base for now. Vegas training will start in September.

  11. Ohhhh, I love cemeterys! There's just something so peaceful about them ...and yes, they're hilly around here too. But then again, everything is hilly around here! :)

I'm with you on the short runs these days ...just too dang hot. Can't deal with it and it's just not worth it.

I actually did a 5k last summer where the race route actually took us through a cemetery! I didn't mind it but I did find it odd that a race would plan it's course to go through one..... and by the way, it was a tad hilly too. Hmmmm.....

  12. Our cemetery is right near the lake I sometimes run laps around. A bunch of us met for a Memorial Day run and did the lake, then ran through the cemetery as well. It was a quiet, and scenic experience, and all the flags were so beautiful. There are a lot of rolling hills there, too!

  13. Sometimes it feels good to break during the summer. This summer, I'm working on getting my miles up so I can start harder training in the fall, so no real break for me (but then, I had about a year long break with sickness, so there's that!). It is so hot right now and those runs outside are so hard. Thanks for linking!

    1. I too would like to increase my mileage since I have the time to do so. I guess that just means getting up earlier so it's not so hot!

  14. I'm sort of in the same boat as you when it comes to running less frequently. I've never run in a cemetery, I was always worried that it would be considered disrespectful. And you're right, they always seem to be on a hill!

    1. I have thought of the "disrespect" factor too. I figured since I was "visiting" a grave site that it was okay this time.

  15. Funny you ask. I just ran through a cemetery yesterday and yes, I snapped a pic.

  16. That's so cool that your mom has a dog at work! Is it a colleague's dog? At one of my previous jobs, my boss used to bring in his dog at times but he wasn't that well trained so he was a bit disruptive.

    1. The dog belongs to her boss. He lays around the office all day (until she walks him of course).

  17. A work dog sounds so cool!!! I would love for our office to have a dog! I could see myself taking it for long walks outside, then blaming it for me not getting my work done!

Did you bring something to your grandma?

    1. Since I ran there, I did not. Her birthday is in a few weeks so maybe I will bring flowers next time. My Pappy and other relatives keep her grave nice though.

  18. Its clear that you're enjoying your break from training, but you're still staying quite active. We all need a break every now and then. Without taking breaks, we'd be more likely to burnout.

  19. I think running through cemeteries is peaceful as well (during the day at least?!) and not disrespectful as long as you stay on the designated path. That house is gorgeous! Enjoy your beautiful summer and try to stay cool!

  20. I've never run in/through a cemetery but I personally would feel weird about it. Then again, I really don't know. I think I remember seeing Claire in House of Cards run in a cemetery too. Oh, well.

  21. Now that you mention it, I think all our cemeteries are on a hills! Ha! Never thought of that! And yes, this summer is already so hot! I don't blame you for not putting in a ton of miles, especially when you're not training for anything in particular.

  22. I took part in a cemetery run last year with my club as part of a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Somme offensive. We didn't run in the cemetery, just walked to the WW1 graves.
