Running on Island Time

I mentioned in the weekly wrap earlier this week that I 've been visiting my mom at work and walking with her and her "work dog".  Well the other day we ventured over to the Marina which is actually on an island. Not the same island I usually run on, but a different island (that is much bigger). I bet you didn't realize we had so many islands in my state did you?

After we walked the loop, I ventured on my own to do a run.

There were so many people here walking, running, and walking their dogs, yet it was so peaceful and serene.

There is also a marina on this island and you can rent water craft. The morning we visited, there were several groups of people renting kayaks and putting them in at the launch.

We even saw some wildlife along the way.

This run wasn't anything amazing or anything but it was a nice little way to mix things up with a new route.  I've known about this island forever and it isn't too far from my home so I can't believe I've never ran here before.

I should have taken more pictures but honestly I didn't think that I was going to blog about it, so I didn't.

What are some new to you routes you've discovered this summer? -M

  1. When I was at my parents' place in Northern Wisconsin, I ventured along a road that I've driven many times but never run. I can't believe I've never gone that way. It was beautiful!!

    1. It definitely makes the run more enjoyable than the same old route!

  2. So how do you get to all these islands? Do you have to take those little rentals or kayaks or do they have water taxi's? I'm so confused but intrigued. So cool all the islands around

  4. When you run on the island, what's the biggest mileage loop you can run?

    1. Hmm, I'm not really sure about this one. On my "own island" here at home its a little over 2 miles. On this island, I just ran at the Marina and it looked as if there were some mileage markers painted on the path but I must have went the wrong way because I noticed they just stopped. The loop I did was probably a little over a mile. I could have went a little further to go back where I started but I stopped to meet my mom.

  5. It feels so good running by a body of water! What is the bridge on the background? a road or a walking bridge?

I run in a park in Hershey, that goes along a small creek, it's covered by trees, and this year with all the rain, the creek always has water running and the trees are very green. It's not a new route, but it looks different from last summer.

  6. I'm looking for some new running trails, but all the ones I've seen in my area are out in the open. I'm looking for more shaded ones, but I may have to drive up to Boulder for that.

  7. So lovely! I think one reason I like running when I travel is the new scenery. How cool to discover a new place close to home!
