Weekly Wrap....January 8

I have a feeling this weekly wrap is going to be short and sweet. I had big intentions (I'll be using this word a lot  this year) for the first week of the new year but they kind of all just flopped.

I don't know for sure, but I assume my gym was closed on Monday. That's okay though because we went to a birthday celebration/lunch for my pappy and aunt, and then did a little after Christmas shopping. I bought a new tree skirt and some different colored decorations for my tree since one of my intentions this year is to paint and re-decorate that room.  The day wasn't all lost though because I got in 3.1 strong treadmill miles in before showering and settling in to watch the season premier of The Bachelor. Who else watched?

Tuesday I went back to work. I don't even remember which days I did what but there was NO gym time this week. Instead there was some more shopping, running errands, and one half @ss run on the treadmill. I was doing a simulated route and for some reason it stopped right before I reached 2 miles. I thought about starting it over but my heart wasn't in it so I just threw in the towel.

I hope I can get my heart into doing more substantial treadmill workouts because I really do like coming right home after work and spending time here at the house with Baylee. I know that I am invited to take Baylee to the gym with me, but I don't want to abuse that privilege.

By Friday I had a feeling I might be coming down with something. I felt fine but I was sneezing all day at work and my nose was starting to feel raw. When  I woke up on Saturday morning it was official, I was sick.   Needless to say Saturday was a lay-around-the house  day.

By Sunday I thought if I pretended to feel better then I actually would but that didn't happen. I did muster up enough energy to go to the grocery store and to put my new lab flag out.
My other lab flag said "Merry Christmas" so this one is perfect now for winter.

We got a dusting of snow on Sunday afternoon and after that it was hard for me to convince Baylee to come back in the house.  In fact, she was nudging me the entire time I wrote this post because she wants to go back outside in it. It's not even enough snow to roll in so I'm not sure why she's so excited.

Next week is a new week and I intend to stick more to the plan!

Do you feel you can get just as good of a strength training session in at home as you can at the gym?
Do your pets like to play in the snow? -M

  1. Cocoa loves the snow! When we got that big snow a few weeks ago, it was as if she died and went to doggie heaven! We could not get her inside.

I hope you are feeling better!

  2. Ive learned to just get in good workouts at home now that I dont have a gym membership. But i used to slack alot more when I worked out at home! This time of year is tough to get motivated- Im sure you will get back on track.

    1. I like being at home versus driving to the gym but I always find myself getting side tracked.

  3. I've been so slack this week, too. I'm not good about getting strength training done at home. Though I have been thinking about getting a treadmill so I can't use the weather as an excuse to not run. But I don't know about it though.

    1. I hope to use mine a lot more. It would make it a lot easier if it was actually in a room I liked being in!

  4. I love the winter lab flag!

That is awesome you are allowed to take Baylee to the gym! Why do they allow that? I am glad they allow it, it's just surprising. When we vacation in CO and CA, it is amazing how pet friendly businesses are. Like, there are restaurants and shops you can take your dogs into!

    1. Hmm, I don't think it's an advertised thing. Not everybody brings their dog. Once their was a little dog running around and it came in my exam room when I was in physical therapy at the same place. The handful of times Baylee came she was always on a leash. Sometimes I just take Baylee places and see if they tell me she's not allowed. So far we've never got kicked out of any place. I even took her to Starbucks over the holidays!

  5. It's definitely a tough time of year and there's next week for sure. I have been learning recently just how much beneficial training can be done at home rather than needing a gym membership. Need to fit more of it in myself.

    1. I have all the equipment at home so there is really no excuse for me to not get it done..lol

  6. I think you can get in a good workout at home. I have a few different hand weights and it's easy to incorporate a lot of upper and lower body strength moves with them. I have a treadmill, but don't use it much (this past week was a major exception to that "norm" LOL).

    1. I hope to use my treadmill a lot more. I thought this week was gonna be the week for it but it didn't turn out that way!

  7. Blah! I hope you're feeling better. A bug seems to be hitting many right now. Love the new Lab flag! And yes, my dog goes nuts in the snow. Sadly we don't have any right now.

    1. I don't know what all the fuss was with Baylee and the snow today cus like I said, it was only a dusting but she certainly enjoyed jumping in it!

  8. Baylee is a beautiful Lab! We have a white male Lab named Chuck. I don't go to the gym much even though I teach classes. I think it depends on if you need or like using the machines. I felt like I could get a better workout on the leg machines. Bodyweight exercises make me sore too! I've neglected strength training during Christmas break. Time to get back at it!

  9. Thank you. I think Baylee is beautiful too but of course I am biased! I actually have a Bowflex Machine here at the house I should start using.

  10. Oh no, hope you are feeling better. I had a similar week - only 2 workouts.

  11. Oh, Baylee is so cute! How could you resist? I think it's hard to get back into the swing of things after the holidays. Hopefully you are feeling better now.

  12. After getting all the PT exercises last spring, I've done a majority of my strength sessions at home. Most of them are body weight, so there's no need for me to use weight machines. Allie can watch in her kitty condo while I workout.

  13. Aww feel better!!! I've been fighting a cold for 2 weeks now and it's the worst. Some days I can pretend I'm all better but I definitely napped twice this weekend. Have a great week!

  14. Hope you're feeling better! Nice job getting what you could on the treadmill. I don't belong to a gym but I believe you can get good strength workouts done at home.

  15. I think home strength workouts can be just as effective as gym workouts for one simple reason: the ability to work the strength workout into your schedule, plus you don't have to go anywhere :) It's only effective if the work gets done, right? Hope you're feeling better!

  16. I'm hoping with this full week back to normal I can sink back into my routine. I love being off don't get me wrong but it sure makes it hard to get in exercise. If I didn't have my trainer waiting on me I'm sure I would talk myself out of going and I don't have the equipment that my gym does. It will do in a bind but I know I wouldn't push myself.

  17. Baylee looks so cute in the show! She definitely seems to be enjoying it. I hope you're feeling better.

  18. It's the new year!! what counts is that you have the intentions to do this!!

My doggy used to love the snow!! she would eat so much of it, that she would throw up!

I find that I can get a good work out at home and at the gym... I just need to put the dedication into it.

  19. Your Baylee always looks so happy!
    Love the cute flag!
Hope you get feeling better soon!! I've been sick for a week, literally didn't even get out of bed for nearly 5 days, there is some yucky gunk going around, really hope you can shake yours off faster than I have been!
    Take care!

  20. We had our coldest day yet on Sunday so I hooked up Calypso's running leash and off we went. That girl dragged her momma to her fastest pace in years! Those mutts just love those cooler temps!
