Weekly Wrap...October16th

After running Chicago Marathon on Sunday I started to feel a bit under the weather when I came home. I think a combination of kicking butt at the race and traveling with the climate change left me feeling exhausted.

Monday and Tuesday were relaxation days.  I knew I wanted to get a massage this week but I was afraid to go too soon because I thought it may hurt too much.

Wednesday I was feeling better so wanted to go out for a short run. Nothing too long nor intense but I thought it may do me good…..wrong! I only did 3 miles and felt ok during it, but later that night I started to feel stuffed up again and spent the whole next day in my pj’s.

It was nice to just veg out for another day though knowing that I did not have anything planned. Friday I worked all day, so nothing exciting there. Saturday I slept in.  When I did get up and around I didn’t have anything scheduled, so I decided to test out my legs again on a run. I didn’t have a plan on how long I was going to go, I was just going to go on how I felt. I made it just under 8 miles.  Other than a few tights spots, I felt good during the whole time. After returning home, I finally went and got a well-deserved massage. I think they need to call the place I go house of pain because that is what it felt like. It was good, but I was definitely sore! I am glad I didn’t have anything planned for afterwards.  That evening I came home and relaxed the rest of the night.

Looking forward to what this coming week brings! Only 2 more weeks till my next race! -L

We are linking up with Holly and Tricia for their weekly wrap!

  1. Glad you were able to rest up this week. A post race massage sounds perfect! I can't believe you are racing again so soon after the marathon!

  2. You could skip running for the next 2 weeks and still crush your next race! Last year I ran a half 6 weeks after Chicago with only one 10 miler in the time and I nearly PR'd! I love that residual fitness from marathon training.

  3. I got sick after running the Chicago Marathon, too! Definitely the stress of running a marathon plus all the travels can really wreak havoc on your body. I wish you a speedy recovery! Super excited for you to run Wine and Dine!

    1. Yes, it all played a part in being sick I'm sure. I'm glad to finally be feeling better.

  4. I can only imagine how much that massage must have felt after a full marathon! That "hurts so good" feeling after a half is bad enough for me! Glad you were able to rest up and recover...good luck on your next running adventure!

  5. I'm sure hopping on a plane with lots of germs flying around doesn't help when your immunity is low after a race. I love getting massages but I wait about a week after the marathon. My massage therapist is a runner and knows how to be gentle. :)

  6. I really need to get massages more often! I d on't usually feel sore, but everything feels like over-cooked pasta (in a very good way).

  7. It sounds like a good recovery week. Every once in a while I like to get a massage that feels good in the moment, but right now my calves need the torture to get the knots out.

  9. Like Wendy, I also had a couple great races after a marathon and that included a food poisoning incident too. Take it easy, cuz your next race should be great but only if you don't overdo it. Is Wine and Dine you next race?

  11. I waited a bit to get a massage after Tink, but so worth it. Relaxing? No, but they certainly know how to work all the knots out.

  12. Enjoy your recovery! I've been wondering about when I should schedule a massage after the Philly marathon.

  13. I hope you are feeling better. I had planned on a post race massage last week as well. But, I couldn't lay on my knees (ugh!) so I put it off until this week. How exciting to have another race in just 2 weeks. You'll do fantastic! Thanks for linking, Lacey!

  15. Massages have been one of my favorite parts about this training cycle! I have had two so far and they are definitely awesome- although the last one she really got my knees and quads and hamstrings good and I think I didn't recover enough before trying to run! I spoke with a different therapist last night and she told me about the types of massage and what I should focus on pre and post run.
